@1UP_MARIO Cheers. Yep it's a beautiful country. I've lived here for nearly 9 years now.

Mario Tennis is superb! Just played Donkey Kong on a forest court with Piranha plants in the middle and it was great fun. Such a good looking game too.

Now even in trailers, Sony's anti-consumer position is being highlighted.

@JaxonH Knowing a game is a port isn't ground breaking. On most systems older games brought forward from a prior system are identified as such and often sold at a reduce price. Even Nintendo typically does this. Separating new content from rereleased content just makes sense. It's not like Steam (or increasingly, XBox), where a game from 2008 is still as viable today as it was then with no changes. You need to rebuy to play on new hardware on Ninendo and Sony, and traditionally both companies make that clear. I'm not against WiiU ports, but I'm becoming increasingly uncomfortable with the white-washing of WiiU's existence to pass off the games of that era as though they were Switch games from the start. It's subtle, and I understand why, but while I was ok with it for a while it's becoming a glaring, uncomfortable lie of omission. Bring the ports, it's fine. Even charge full price and justify it, it's fine. Just be honest that it's a re released, or update, or "HD Edition" or whatever title, not a new title.

"Funky Kong"
Yeah I'm liking the Funky mode (or was until I started Sushi Striker instead!)......it's surprisingly still quite challenging....just not "Soulsborne as a Platformer" that DKCR games normally are I expected to just blast through as a tourist to revisit the game, and found myself dying a lot as a result. You can hover, you can double jump, but it still wont save you if you fall off the edge or miss the moving platform.

@NEStalgia
just be honest

There's no "dishonesty" in not plastering port across a menu for all to see. It's just not relevant enough to mention.

My name is Jaxon. Just because I dont announce my name every time I walk in a room doesnt mean I'm "being dishonest". It just means it doesnt matter enough to even bring up.

There's zero need to mention anything about being a port. If you already know it's a port, then you already know, so why bother repeating what's already known.

And if you didnt know, then you obviously didn't care enough to research it. In which case it won't matter anyways.

Either way it's simply not relevant. All that's relevant is the game itself. Saying they should "be honest" seems like pandering to the folks who knock ports.

In the real world, nobody gives a crap. It's not even worth wasting print on the back of the box. If somebody actually cares about whether a game is a port or not, they can Google it. It shouldn't matter and doesnt matter. And there's no reason or need to spell it out. If someone cares that much then they can do a 30 second internet search. It just doesn't matter and there's nothing dishonest about not advertising it on a menu or box. That's like saying "the game uses assets from another game, they need to "be honest" and plaster that disclaimer on the menu screen. What? No. Anyone who wishes to learn about the details of a game on that level has the entire internet at their disposal.

If it's not pertinent to impacting the actual experience then it doesnt need to be mentioned. At all.

@Syndrome Yep, forgot about that.

Once Crazy Justice is out that'll be 7 games that have crossplay Mantis Burn Racing and Pinball FX3 being the others. Pinball FX3 is flawed though as only Switch players can see Xbox players, they can't see us. Not sure if Steam players can see Switch players though.

I think that's all of them?

Watching this as I research more about Starlink: Battle for Atlas, it looks great!

THere's some problems with frame rate dips, but hopefully it'll be fixed upon release.

Another video with not much commentary I think. (I put the link to the time where it should start)

Oh, the person has handheld video lol Looks pretty nice still to be honest

Not a Star Fox fan, so I'll likely pass on Starlink unfortunately. But I am happy it's potentially gonna be the best version on the Switch, simply due to Star Fox elements being in the game. Good for those who want a new Star Fox.

Metroid, Xenoblade, EarthBound shill

I run a YouTube/Twitch channel for fun. Check me out if you want to!

Please let me know before you send me a FC request, thanks.

@EvilLucario Not Star Fox fan too here, but the gameplay looks too fun (and I want another exploring game haha)

Hopefully they fix up the issues upon release, will love to buy this, even digital version

@JaxonH Except Sony, Nintendo, Microsoft, Square Enix, Capcom, Sega, Square Enix, Bethesda and others, DO seem to find merit to labeling re-releases as such (via one marketing phrase or another.) Nintendo Selects re-released games on the same console. Sony's now doing the same. The re-release is labeled as such. That's not even across consoles but out of print games on the same console.

Yes, omission is still dishonesty, and anything that can be excluded from being an "overt lie" is not necessarily honesty. There's surely no criminal offense here, but enough omission of mixed with a presentation designed to ignore that detail that makes one feel uncomfortable. All that said, while not on the box, even as I said, DKCTF specifically mentions "like on the WiiU" for either the difficulty or controls selector at the start, so indeed, in the game, it does acknowledge itself as a port. "Remastered" "HD" "Rerelease" "Select" "GOTY" "Deluxe" "Ultimate Edition" etc. are all common promotional ways of declaring that a game is a re release without making that sound like a bad thing and/or with marginal to significant added content. Even in the days of bringing arcade games to home consoles it was common to modify the name to indicate this was a version for a different machine with some changes. It's not new to do so.

I'm going to guess you're a sales & marketing guy (or a lawyer) am I right?

@darkfenrir That's really looking like a great Star Fox game! Which is funny because technically it isn't....but it is

NEStalgia

darkfenrir

@NEStalgia Yeah, I have been hearing tons of positive noises- I'm just worried on the toys-to-life part now. The gameplay itself looks pretty solid!

And you can play as Fox too the whole game from what I hear (+ some exclusive mission content for him), so it's overall very great!

Starlink, the Star Fox Game we didn't expect!

@NEStalgia
Everything you just said is nonsense. Omission is only dishonest if it's something that needs to be disclosed upfront as paramount information to the consumer.

This doesnt. It's irrelevant. You dont see "originally on PS3!!!" slapped on the cover of ported games. It doesnt need to be disclosed upfront because it doesnt freaking matter, and thus omission is irrelevant. If you listed every irrelevant detail about a game it would need to come with a 540 page binder.

If someone wants to label something then fine. But they're not required to nor is there any obligation to.

Why does it matter? Why does it need to be advertised? It doesnt. Never did and never will. Games are games. Doesn't matter where they come from or what other systems they've been on.

You didn't see "Rise of the Tomb Raider Xbox Port Edition!" on PS4. Because it doesnt matter. The game is being sold on it's own merits and nothing more. If you care whether its ported, it's on YOU to do your homework. Being a port doesnt make the game any less enjoyable and thus it is irrelevant. If you want cheaper options it's on YOU to go find them.

So.... I was browsing the eShop last night and came across Banner Saga, a game I completely forgot I REALLY wanted to play.

I knee-jerk bought it, even though I know I have Aces being delivered tomorrow, but I LOVE it. Reminds me more of FF Tactics than other strat games like Disgaea, for sure, mostly because it's much simpler and doesn't have nearly as many menus and micromanaging and combos and all that jazz (I don't like all the added complexities, usually).

Anyway, just thought I'd let people know it's a great game if a more streamlined tactics game is your style (I'm still at like hour 3 on Disgaea 5 and just cannot bring myself to jump back into it). The art and animations are beautiful, too, and I like the little choices you make as you move along.

@JaxonH "You dont see "originally on PS3!!!" slapped on the cover of ported games"

Not as such, however the titles of the ports are very very clear in "marketing speak" ways that they are ports:

Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition
Last of Us: Remastered
Nathan Drake Collection
Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition
KH Re:Coded
Dishonored: Definitive Edition
DMC4: Special Edition
Legend of Kay: Anniversary Edition
Metro: Redux
Valkyria Remastered

Then there's this wonderful category header:
Untitled

It remains industry standard to indicate that a port is an enhanced edition of an existing game by one means or another in the title or packaging or both. Nintendo's the odd one out on this one. MK8 Deluxe, Pokken DX did so. Bayonetta 2, DKCTF, Treasure Tracker did not.
