I fell asleep about 20 minutes before the Direct started but luckily managed to watch it there without catching any spoilers. I come away fairly content but like everyone says,thought too much time was spent on Smash. Perhaps more time would have been spent on Dragon Ball Fighters and Fortnite if that leak never happened?The first half was great and moved along at a good pace, if it had kept that pace up for the whole show and announced 1 or others it would have been a great show.As it was, it'll be remembered as a decent show but far from one of the best. With it being the Switch's 2nd E3 that's a little disappointing. Especially since we know they have the games in development that could have made it a memorable one.
My highlight was Daemon X Machina which looks incredible, just my kind of game. It's a shame its not coming till next year though. Fire Emblem I thought looked very nice, again next year. Hollow Knight being available now was a nice surprise and I've already got it downloaded. Fortnite although not a surprise, it's nice to have it now on my system so I can see what all the fuss is about. Ninjala looks very interesting and is clearly influenced by Splatoon. I hoped for Odyssey DLC, never got it. Gutted Starfox GP never showed so may not even exist. Another E3 another no show from Retro. Bayonetta 3 I still hoped for despite the wise words from others that it was unlikely to appear. When the show started with a 2019 game I felt confident we were going to see but it wasn't to be.
It could have done with more games but I've a feeling they've still not showed all their hand yet. There is still a game that will launch along with the online service, I'm sure of that.
@JaxonH Nice list and cheers for making it up. Didn't spot Titan Quest or Wasteland 2 on it. I think TQ is coming at the end of July and Wasteland 2 I don't think has a release date.
@JaxonH I don't really see why. You can do whatever you want obviously, but a different perspective isn't really a bad thing, even if he is overly pessimistic at times. Echo chambers of "Switch is awesome!" can get boring, especially since it's not all sunshine and rainbows with this system. There are definite problems, especially if you compare this year to last year.
That's... just what Switch visuals look like. Top down strategy games typically aren't the type that turn heads visually anyways. I think it looks gorgeous though. About what I expected and hoped for.

It's everything I could've hoped for. Miles beyond the last three entries I played, exactly what a Path of Radiance or Radiant Dawn would look like in the modern era.

And Fire Emblem is so good. Only series I would rank above Monster Hunter and Xenoblade. Well, maybe Monster Hunter is a tie. Either way, it's up there.
New indie on board called New Blood Interactive who've said they will be bringing all their games to Switch. Their games have reviewed very well on Steam and various review sites. Here's a couple, with one looking like Quake the other like Hexen.
Yeah it's a shame. But at least it's only til spring, and we do have the excellent Valkyria Chronicles 4 in the meantime.
Btw, anyone enjoying Hollow Knight? I funded it back on Kickstarter. Never knew it would end up being a switch exclusive that can rival Ori and the Blind Forest. Well, Ori might be a little bit better, but still. Ori is one of the best games I've ever played, so...

Hey all - was away for the weekend. Assume we're all complaining about the E3 showing? (being serious)
Watched the E3 video as soon as I got home (didn't spoil with any articles beforehand), and yea...first half AWESOME, second half... Smash Brothers lol Got a little long for my taste. Knew that is one of their biggest games coming up, but dang... that was way too long.
The list of games coming out is spectacular and I'm not going to be able to buy everything, but geez... would've enjoyed a few more minutes on Fire Emblem or even Mario Party to take away a few from Smash.
@JaxonH Hollow Knight is fantaaaaaaaaaaastic. I 100%ed the original game on Steam, and I immediately went back to double-dip for Switch. It's so good, $15 is a STEAL for what you get.
Absolute 100% recommendation if you even slightly like Metroidvanias.
Ya, that Daemon X Machina game looks rad. I thought it was a new Xenoblade spinoff mech game at first. Whatever it is though it's definitely got my attention. Love games like that. Crazy and different. Stuff you just don't see in the industry anymore.
Had some good stuff, but I think the leak diminished the impact. Fortnite out of nowhere would have been huge. As would Dragonball Fighter Z. Hollow Knight surprise dropping was awesome though. And Smash looks insane. Just... so much content.
Idk. It is what it is. At first I wasn't really that impressed. But after letting everything sink in I started feeling really good about the direct today. Just cause I got to digest how great Daemon X Machina looked, and Fire Emblem, and Smash, and the Hollow Knight/Fortnite surprise launch, DB Fighter Z, Pokémon looks legit...
There is a lot of great games coming. After Mario Tennis Aces and Captain Toad though, it'll be an onslaught of third party games up until Pokémon, I guess. Which is good we have so many games coming because Nintendo is leaving a little bit of a gap in between there.
I still think Pikmin 4 should have been announced though. What a bummer. And Retro's Star Fox racer... i'm thinking it's going to be a 2019 game- it leaked but it was never mentioned that it would be releasing this year. Starlink Starfox crossover is likely priming the audience. I keep saying "Well, Pikmin 4 will probably be next year" but this is the last time I'm saying it. If it doesn't come next year I'm going to need to have a little talk with Miamoto.

Fire Emblem looks absolutely gorgeous, but then, I love stylized video game art, whereas I find something objectively super-impressive like TLOU Part II to be not particularly pleasant to look at, so I feel like I'm just not going to see eye-to-eye with the people who aren't thrilled with the upgrade in Fire Emblem's presentation. It's slick as heck.
Oh, I downloaded Hollow Knight but have yet to try it. I spent my bit of gaming time tonight playing the Shining Resonance Refrain demo. The game looks great in both modes, and I'm enjoying the combat, although I do hope it gets a bit more difficult later on. I tore through all of the enemies in this demo on standard difficulty like they were nothing.
@KirbyTheVampire So, for me, personally, I'm into gaming because I have fun with it. What I don't have fun with is people complaining and crying about what ISN'T coming to a particular system. There's absolutely nothing wrong with putting someone whose constant negativity bums you out on ignore. You're not silencing or censoring them, and they're free to continue doing what they do.
Thankfully, almost nobody on this forum is like that. I put two or three people who only commented on NL articles on ignore, and it improved my experience with this website 100%.
