@Ralizah

IMHO what a lot of people wanted from MS was a statement of intent. They've lacked exclusives and seem to be moving towards an ecosystem/service type of setup and there was even talk of them leaving the industry.

We got that. Not much with an actual release date but lots and lots of games, talk of next-gen and the impression that they aren't going anywhere.

@Knuckles-Fajita
Really? I hadn't realized that. That gives me more faith in the game because I know Nintendo backs quality video games. It already looked good (really good), but now I can put my faith in it knowing Nintendo has put theirs in it.

@DarthNocturnal
That's good to hear. So, progress carries over from other platforms (minus PS4), built in voice chat (even if you do need an extension, which I bought), touch screen support, and I'm hoping they can add motion controls because they were talking about adding Switch exclusive features in the Treehouse interview.

@electrolite77 To be fair about the lineup, it's not that bad if you consider 3rd Party releases and DLC. Between and Mario Party we have:
Octopath Traveler
Lego The Incredibles
Sonic Mania Plus
20XX
Okami HD
YS VIII
Valkyria Chronicles
Valkyria Chronicles 4
Dark Souls Remastered
Splatoon 2 Octoling Expansion
XC2 DLC
The World Ends With You
Possibly Dragonball FighterZ?
Overcooked 2

And probably a few more I missed and that will be announced between now and then. Shelves won't exactly be bare just because we aren't seeing first party retail releases for a whole 6 weeks.

Dragon Ball Fighterz looks smooth as butter! Damn I can't wait to get this on switch

Yeah it's generally OK overall. I don't doubt the system. Will continue to sell but I definitely hoped for slightly more thirdparty support and a first-party line-up that didn't rely solely on the two big hitters, that are surprisingly late in the year. There could be something else yet I suppose but maybe Nintendo think the online launch and the DLC will fill the gaps.

Starlink is looking downright incredible. This is the Starfox game we've been waiting for.

If this E3's shown me one thing, it's that 2019 is going to be the next 2017 for Nintendo fans. An incredible new Fire Emblem, beautiful Yoshi, brand new traditional Pokemon generation, epic mech action game, and possibly even Bayonetta 3 or Animal Crossing all releasing next year.

This year is a little emptier than I had hoped for, but since I'm getting Octopath and Smash Ultimate in the same year I think I'll be plenty happy to wait until it gets good in 2019!

Mario Galaxy is ten years old, and now I feel old.

JaxonH

@RETRO_J
I'm trying to only list good games people care about, so no Just Dance. I'll list the other 2 though, and Mutant League Football too!

@ilikeike
We're still getting Mario Tennis Aces, Monster Hunter Gen Ultimate, Dark Souls Remastered, Wolfenstein 2, Valkyria Chronicles 4, Shining Resonance, Tales of Vesperia, The World Ends With You, Octopath Traveller, Pokémon Lets Go, Smash Ultimate, Mega Man 11, Team Sonic Racing, Okami HD and Starlink all in the latter half of the year though (among many others, but those are the key titles I'm super excited for). Probably can toss in Captain Toad and Yoshi in there also, and the Xenoblade 2/Splatoon 2/Mario Rabbids DLC cause those all look excellent as well.

But you're right, 2019 is lining up very nicely. Any year that has a huge, new Fire Emblem and main series Pokémon is going to be dynamite. And let's be honest, Metroid Prime 4, DQXI, DQ Builders 2 and Bayonetta 3 could all slot in 2019 as well. This year is all about Pokémon Let's Go and Smash. Last year was Zelda and Mario.

@Ralizah I don’t think MS gamers are looking for first party. Ms has a small first party catalog anyway. I think they wanted proof that MS was still engaged with the system beyond the X is the most powerful. As a bone owner with buyer’s remorse this conference was a breath of fresh air.

Not necessarily my tastes, but the majority of people in this forum. But if it's something you're excited for, then I guess it's warranted. I just haven't really met anyone in this thread that plays those games. I'll add it quick

@ilikeike Pikmin 4 and SMT V would absolutely seal the deal for me.

And, you know, it makes sense. Not every year can be 2017 in terms of first-party games.

Currently Playing: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond (NS2); Corpse Factory (PC)

KirbyTheVampire

2018 is definitely the year of the PS4 for me. All I want to buy on the Switch is Smash, which looks incredible. The rest I don't care for. I hope 2019 can turn things around.

I can't imagine looking at that long list of great games coming and not being interested in any of it. Even just 5% of it would still be a handful of games.

But you hear people say the same thing about PS4. They'll say there's only one single game that interest them on the entire system so... Idk.

"Man, I do think it was a good idea to wait for the Switch but there's gonna be so many games and exclusives out by the end of the year, that even when I get it, I'm probably gonna be super behind on new releases no matter what." - Me, before today

Hahaha wow, I really did make the best choice. I mean, this isn't something to worry about or whatever since it was kinda obvious that 2018 was gonna be a slow year for major first party games (and the best rated Switch game of the year is an indie, dont forget). But that just works out perfectly for me. Best timing ever Nintendo, good job! When I'm caught up guys, Switch will have all the games! Just as it should be!

but yeah if anyone is burying the current games releases, that E3 of 2018 games was in fact more than enough for me if I had a Switch, and was caught up on other Switch titles, throughout the year. And I guarantee we still haven't seen all of the notable 2018 Switch releases yet. (and no this doesn't contradict what I just said, they're mostly not games that make me regret not currently having a Switch, that's not the same as not being really good games. I said "not" four times lol)

This was definitely a disappointing E3 to me personally. I love Smash but they should’ve just ended talking about it when they announced all characters are returning instead of detailing every single minute aspect that’s changed. They should’ve saved that for a Smash Direct later in the year. And there were barely any new 1st party game announcements besides Mario Party. And with Yoshi and Fire Emblem pushed to next year, there's barely any new 1st party games coming after July until November (ignoring Mario Party).

And @JaxonH I can understand your hype for FE, but tbh as an outsider to the series who's never played a FE game before, I was pretty disappointed. The graphics don't look very impressive, I think many models even had the black shade outline that many 3DS games had. More importantly, I was hoping this was going to be the Pokemon Let's Go of FE; just like you couldn't get into Pokemon and now Let's Go is giving you a chance, I was hoping they could simplify FE and make it easy to play for people who haven't played the FE games before (like me). But it appears quite complicated and RPG-heavy, which is a shame.

With Nintendo just straight up announcing the Octo Expansion for tomorrow (NA) at the end of the Splatoon 2 tournament, I think we may get some games and/or DLC announced during Treehouse Live for the gap.

My poor wallet. Purchased hollow night. Paladins, wulverblade on sale and still got Mario tennis to come, blaze blu tag, crash bandicoot and Wolfenstein II

Take a look at the 3DS entries and then compare. The graphics look phenomenal. Even compared to the GC and Wii entries.

The black lines are adjustable. There's a slider in the settings and you can make it as thick as you want or disappear entirely.

They're not going to change the gameplay for newcomers- that would be outrage fans everywhere. Pokémon Let's Go is separate from a main entry, and has the benefit of 1 billion players to draw in from the mobile game. I think Fire Emblem Heroes is their attempt to draw in new players. But ya, there's a lot of depth to the strategy and I guess that's just the kind of game it is, and I understand that won't appeal to everyone.

With that said, they have gone to great lengths incorporating easier modes to accommodate new players. It's not overly complicated to understand- the complexity comes from the strategy itself. Like chess. You can learn how to play chess in 15 minutes. But you could spend a lifetime mastering the strategy. That might be a bit of an extreme example but, I think you get the point.

I would really recommend giving it a shot- I never liked turn based games at all until I played Fire Emblem Awakening. And this game looks 10x better than Awakening. A lot of fans wanted a return to the style of Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn, which they've done and nailed it with a bullseye.

But ya, it is an RPG, so if you're looking for an experience that's not an RPG, this probably isn't it. But maybe don't write RPG's off entirely. I used to be the exact same way, but all it took was playing the right game (Fire Emblem).
