@DarthNocturnal I hate the premise because Retro is capable of so much more than a spinoff of a franchise that already deserved better than what it got.
This entire game feels very much like a Nintendo game circa 2016. Chibi-Robo Zip-Lash, do something different and no one wanted THAT from the franchise. Same with Star Fox Zero. Same with Animal Crossing amiibo Festival, Federation Force, Colour Splash.
This feels like at best it could be good, but even then I cant help but feel some talent is being wasted and we are looking at another huge backlash to a game that will simply "exist".
Now Playing: Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, Crash Bandicoot 4
@YummyHappyPills I mean, if they can bring a new meaning to racing games and make it amazing, I'd support them. Did people back in 2010 think their talents were going to waste when they were announced to be making DKC Returns, after Metroid Prime?
There are signs pointing out that they're very versatile, and if they can make one of the most robust racing games ever, more power to them.
Metroid, Xenoblade, EarthBound shill

Sounds like Nintendo. Having an incredibly talented developer make a spinoff that almost nobody will want.
I guess, best case scenario, it could be a Mario + Rabbids situation. Everyone thought that sounded horrible, including me, but I'd argue it was one of 2017's best exclusives.
It could also be nonsense.
Currently Playing: Yakuza Kiwami 2 (PC); Unicorn Overlord (NS)
I will say though, the game has to be excellent. It can't just be "good", it has to be very good to justify its existence. They've got big-name guys handling it, after all.

@EvilLucario I am very wary is all. This could be the best damn racing game ever. If it is, cool. I probably won't pick it up because I already have MK8D.
But this isn't exactly how I would spend a studio like that. They could make a new IP, revive an old one in a way that wasn't a spinoff that will inevitably annoy everyone (See E3 2015/ every release in 2016!).
It COULD be a good racing game. It wont be a good Star Fox game though. That series seems doomed to walk the plains of random genres until something sticks that isn't Star Fox remade yet again.
Now Playing: Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, Crash Bandicoot 4
To be honest a Switch port of Federation Force would be really cool. I liked it enough but having an HD versions with good controls would be a treat, especially with Samus Returns and MP4 out and on its way. Maybe people wouldn't be so salty towards it now
@EvilLucario Oh yeah, but I also go at things with pessimism because as the Wii U taught me, expect the worst and you'll at least be prepared. Everything above that is a pleasant surprise.
Sadly we can't say so I stick my head in cautious optimism sand, which is where I was for Mario + Rabbids.

I am keeping an open mind about this admittedly surprising announcement/rumour however, if this is the reason why Retro Studios have been very quiet for nearly five years, then good heavens!
@Grumblevolcano
Animal Crossing Switch should be NOT from Amiibo Festival sequel.
Animal Crossing Switch must be at least like Portal Knights (update 1.4.0) in term of editing the islands with specific blocks, altitudes, plants, water, furnitures, decorative objects, NPCs, etc.
As we're heading into E3 2015 territory, E3 2018 could end up like this:
Animal Crossing Switch is a sequel to amiibo Festival
.
don't give Nintendo any ideas.

Except it looks somewhat generic. Just looking at it tells me that this rumor may not be real after all.
That's not to say that I'm not interested in the game, though. I would actually love to see more of it.
God first.

Ugh, no, no editing the land, that wouldn't feel like Animal Crossing at all. I'd like to go back to having cliffs in town but I don't think we should be editing the terrain at all. Planting trees, bushes, flowers, etc? Putting in fountains and windmills and even cafes? Fine. But no moving the river or drawing the cliffs and ponds. Part of the fun of Animal Crossing is learning to live with your town's unique layout.
@MisterPi Yeah, it would be nice to properly be able to play it. Unlike the 3DS buttons, both the Joy-Con and pro controller don't wear down quickly from playing Warriors games so I'd be able to choose the controls option I wanted. It was fun from what little I played but the past year and a half has been an unsure state of whether to get a replacement New 3DS XL or just use my current New 3DS XL as a strategy RPG machine.
I think I'm in the minority that would enjoy such a game, if it existed? But really the crux of my enjoyment would be how similar to DKR it would be. I loved how that game had a hub world and "bosses"
