Topic: What do you personally want to see in Botw 2?

@TheJGG Thats one of the things i dont like about it, i want the weapon system to be more linear. You find first sword with att 1, then one with att 2 etc when u progress. Like in the older games. I like the feeling it gives me when i upgrade in that way. I feel zelda should be zelda, not every other modern games. Remember Sony purchased Zipper inc and destroyed Socom in that way.. tried to make Socom into COD.

Im up for changes, but feel like they have done to much. Hopefully they will find a more unique and subtle change.

Play mostly everything. 😊

@DennisNOR Ahh, so like a level system. That would be a nice fusion of RPG and action game. Of course it means there’ll be either a linear structure to the game, or a very dynamic scaling system to ensure wherever you go the weapons are balances.

This could also play well if it correlates with the tier system for enemies. If you have a Level 2 combat ability you’ll be able to use weapons with attack power 10-20 for example and will be better suited to fight blue bokoblins. Pure example but it could work without seeming too gimmicky.

Currently playing:
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
Persona 4 Golden
Dragon Quest XI S
F1 23
Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty

I’d have preferred the “legendary” weapons to be on “cool downs” like the master sword but absolutely if the game is built around breakable weapons and moment to moment improvisation of combat (which I personally loved) they should definitely not offer a cheat mode toggle that turns it off.

Ultimately though my position is as was - I’d trust the developers to get it right and to know more about what we actually want than what we think we want.

Playing through BoTW recently I have to say though I’d forgotten just how extremely satisfying the Great Plateau is. Then it finishes with the main quest line “defeat Ganon and save Hyrule”. The game even points the camera at Hyrule Castle and says “you can go there and try right now if you like - go once you’re ready, the only person who pads this game out with side quests is you. It’s your choice”. It’s such an audacious and brave thing for them to have done.

A moment that’s different but equally as brave and satisfying would be welcome.

Also - I personally hope they steer as clear away from crafting, levelling and loot collection as possible. Find a better way of hooking people in for 100 hours.

Underwater & underground feel like the two biggest things "missing" from BotW. It looks like we're going to be exploring the same Hyrule, so adding those and also finding ways to significantly alter the landscape and make it really worth re-exploring are the big ones for me.

I'm one of those lunatics who found all 900 Koroks in the original, and as much as I enjoyed it, I would like a fresh reason to scour Hyrule again

As it's specifically announced as a sequel I think it would be cool if it allowed you to use your save data from BotW which does something. Not to the extremes of Mass Effect where you're massively punished for playing the games in any order that's not 1, 2, 3 but something more like Fire Emblem (you could use your Path of Radiance save data for Radiant Dawn).

Honestly, I just hope BOTW 2 ends up being drastically different from the original in terms of the world itself. It'd be lame if the game had almost the same amount of dev time, and the world itself is mostly the same, but this time a bit of new stuff scattered around the place. I really want them to switch things up again, and make the world 100% drastically different from the Hyrule in the base game, making it entirely new for those who already beat the original more than once.

@Snaplocket Eh.. I feel like the Switch itself has a while to go before they release a brand new console. I'd say it'll probably have at least a few more years of it's life due to how successful it is. Probably will be it's 7th birthday before it gets replaced.

FroZtedFlake

Themed dungeons
Underground and Underwater
Tad better durability and an ability to repair or upgrade a weapon
More runes (maybe Hookshot rune?)
More enemies (Tekitite, Redead, etc)
Different world
Better Grassy framerate
Mouth matches voice acting

Games I'm playing right now:
Tears of the Kingdom - Switch

Kingdom Hearts 2 - PS4
Ace Attorney Trilogy - Switch

I'm hoping BOTW 2 makes use of HD rumble for puzzles and such, since it was a feature that would've been really nice to have, but Nintendo didn't include it in the original, as they were trying to keep the game itself the same on both the Wii U and the switch.

Another thing too, is the game will probably look a bit nicer or sharper, since it's a switch exclusive title, no longer held back by the Wii U's graphical limits.

@damien33ad Playable Zelda was never going to happen anyways. As for major changes in gameplay, it's waaay too early to tell. We probably won't have a linear story, mainly because the first game was open world, and this is a sequel to an open world game. The degradation system is fine. They just need to adjust the durability to make it not as annoying. I don't get how they could mix linear progression with the same open air feel of BotW honestly.

@damien33ad Linear story is probably completely off the table since this game seems to be an expansion on Breath of the Wild's open ended sandbox-esque design in the same way Majora's Mask refined Ocarina of Time's mechanics. I have no idea how they'd be able to fit a super linear narrative into a game like this

@damien33ad There's no possible way that they can let you go anywhere and do anything at the same time as "force an order" onto you in terms of areas. They can however, make a story. They just have to tell one that's non-linear.

@damien33ad I rather be able to tackle any dungeon in any order, and travel the world as I like. There's other ways to tell a story in a world without having to force everyone to follow the same path in order to tell it. It's more appealing to me personally, to have dungeons that are scattered around the world, in which you can find, instead of having linear dungeons you need to complete in a set order.

One way they could incorporate a story in an open world is by retooling the memory system, so that the player can actually play the memories, and not just watch a cutscene.

An actual story, More full dungeons, more traditional Zelda music and not just ambient outdoor nature sounds. I'd love it if even for a small portion or maybe future dlc Zelda was playable.

Oh and a means of travel other than horses. Bring back the loftwings or heck throw in Link's motorcycle!

Whatever else they do I'm waiting to be surprised! Just make it a sequel that tops the original. No pressure.

It's Nintendo and I Know they'll come up with something fantastic!

@damien33ad I mean, again, most of the reasons why people didn't like the memories were because they were cutscenes without much context. It could easily be fixed by allowing the person to actually play the memories, instead of watching them, so that they can get a feel for what's happening in the moment.

I highly doubt they'll ever return to the linear format of going from dungeon to dungeon, blocking progression off because you don't have a certain item, and forcing people to get the item in order to progress. Part of the main freedom around BotW is keeping it open ended, so anyone can do anything at any time, while all having a unique experience. No two playthroughs of BotW are alike.
