This is a thread for everything Zelda related, which regards speculation on future games, what direction the series may or may not take, hopes/desired for future installments as well as news related to Zelda, and of course, leaks or rumors. Also Zelda theory is welcome as well.

To start things off, how likely is it that we get a Skyward Sword port to the Switch or ever? There was the famous remari by Aounuma at the Zelda concert but we're they just testing the waters? Also, what is the game that you would like to see from Zelda remastered the most in the vein of Lino's Awakening (not saying has to have the same art design but rather a total overhaul)? Personally I think A Link to the Past must be redone in order to appeal to thus generation of kids as everyone says ALTTP is simply a classic game that is legendary(pun intended).

I really don't think we need a remake of ALttP for a long time, if ever. We just got A Link Between Worlds fairly recently, which is basically a straight up improvement of ALttP, unless you really hate the new item system. I'd rather them give an HD Link Between Worlds port to the Switch than ALttP remake. If they were to remake an old Zelda game, I'd like a bundle of both Oracle games. Using the Link's Awakening remake art style would work, but it would be nice to see a new art style as well.

Skyword Sword port seems likely. It's theoretically "easy" although they would have to rethink some motion controls. I'd imagine we'll see this is in a couple of years, once BOTW 2 comes out and Nintendo is looking to fill a release slate with a Zelda game that they know will sell. So my guess is 2022 at the earliest.

Playing through Link's Awakening on Switch was fine. It definitely didn't make me think that every old Zelda game should be remade in such a way. It of course looked gorgeous, but it definitely felt like I was playing a Game Boy game from the early 90s. I'm OK with leaving all of that stuff in the past.

Also agree with @Cynas that we don't "need" a remake of ALTTP. It's probably the SNES game that has aged the best, so redoing it wouldn't really solve any problems for the youths of today. As he points out, it's essentially a reimagining already.

I'm fine with playing the Oracle Games and Minish Cap as eventual additions to an eventual Game Boy/GBA app via Switch Online.

I hope Grezzo has been working on a Zelda II remake.

Who knows what they've been working on since they finished work on the Link's Awakening remake.

Remember the tech demo they put together before making BotW? It looked like the original Zelda, but they used it to experiment with new gameplay systems before going into full development of the new game. I think they should build a whole new game out of that tech demo.

@Cynas ya but I think LTTP was a far grander journey than LBW though I'd love to see that remastered with Links Awakening engine and ported as well

@bpapa2020 ya I don't want the animation style identical but rather a ground up reworking. Although I think LBW and Finish cap would look great used ng the engine.

I hope we see SS sooner like next year and they will have to do at least some tweaking with motion controls. I've never played whole game everyone negative says is terrible game but I enjoyed what I played

My thought has been that after they release their 3D Mario collection, they'll probably do a 3D Zelda collection a year later.

3D Zelda Collection= HD version of Ocarina 3D + HD version of Majoras 3D + Wind Waker Wii U port + Twilight Wii U port + Skyward Sword HD port (no changes just higher resolution).

That would definitely be worthy of a $60 release. Probably a bit too generous on Nintendo's behalf really.

ALttP is fine the way it is, IMO and it's aged very well.

I'd like to see the DS Zeldas redone with a more conventional control scheme. I really hate those games solely because of the controls. I couldn't even finish Spirit Tracks and it ended up in the trash at one point (though later retrieved, but never played again). The point I quit was at a boss where I had to quickly switch between holding the entire system to my face and blow on it in a proper sequence and transition back to stylus controls. I hate when Nintendo forces garbage gimmicks like that and I don't think I've ever been as frustrated with forced gimmicks as I was with those games.
So, I'd love to see them remade in a more traditional way

Zelda II could do with a remake. I wouldn't want to see too much changed though, keep the same overworld and side scrolling style. Just make it a bit more accessible. Like game over doesn't always take you back to the start, get rid of the weird 80's cryptic translations and have actual usable hints from NPCs, a world map, dungeon maps, proper save system that saves where you are and alter the difficulty spikes (like Death Mountain, wow you are so unprepared for that when they want you to go in there) to a more natural rise in difficulty.

The Oracle games would be good for an LA style remake. Game Boy graphics have not aged well and, well, the engine already exists.

I think collections would be a good route to go for Zelda now given the scope of it. A classic top-down collection (Zelda, ALttP, LA, Oracles, Minish Cap and probably need to lump Zelda II in here as well) and a 3D collection from OoT up to at least TP, if not SS. It'd be nice to be able to play them all on one system.

Not a lot of support for LTTP remake. Kinda surprising. I guess it's because of the nostalgia and love for the game that noone wants it touched or messed with Which I get. But I won't be able to get my son to play a 16-bit game. Not when he's used to today's graphics and I don't want that game lost to history. Blown ng on screen in spirit tracks? Lol never knew that
I'm all for a remake of minish cap and tbh I'm all for a brand new full fledged 2d Zelda for the console

@Cotillion
I think a fully fleshed-out Zelda II sprucing would be interesting.

@Dezzy I think the Zelda celebration is going to be the release of BOTW 2 itself. I think Nintendo has proven they can sell remastered Zeldas well, and they probably wouldn't want to bundle them into a collection.

But of course, we don't even know how the Mario "collection" will look yet or if it even exists so the jury is still out.

@Slowdive I keep seeing people mention Zelda II. I tried it out on the eShop not really able to get into it. Maybe there's something they could do with it to make it more appealing

Dezzy

@bpapa2020

Yes, the fact that they could sell many of those standalone is all that makes me doubt it might happen. That Wind Waker Wii U game could likely sell for full price.

damien33ad

@Slowdive I think looking at the Legend of Zelda series not so much as a video game franchise but rather historical pieces of art that we ought to see each step along the way of this artwork be re-presented, polished and done anew while still maintaining the I tegreity of the original but also trying to use the tech we have today to convey what the devs would have liked to to convey back then. Seen as art I can understand Zelda 2 remake. And of course I would buy it

damien33ad

damien33ad

@bpapa2020 idk. I think we will get more than one Zelda release next year. BOTW 2 and perhaps a SS. Or maybe even a 2d Zelda. Brand new
