@Nicolai According to Hyrule Historia; ''The Kokiri now appear plantlike, having transformed into the Korok tribe, who spread greenery around the world [...]'' It doesn't say that the Great Deku Tree transformed the Kokiri into Korok.
Is there somewhere that lists the differences between the Wii U and Switch versions?
I think I heard somewhere that the gamepad screen won't be used at all on the Wii U...is that right? What else?
I still haven't finished Twilight Princess HD or even started Windwaker HD, so I'm not really in a hurry, just trying to decide which version I should get.
I read about differences between two versions and just 2 are really relevant: Wii U at 720p and Switch at 900p while docked and better sound quality for Switch. And yes, gamepad is not used, only with gyro when shooting arrows and stuff like that
@FGPackers That seems like a pretty big difference to me; it pretty much confirms me getting the Switch version.
@Octane I'm not into collection to collect. I really see only needing to own one version of BotW, or any game for that matter.
Its a funny thing though, Nintendo does occupy a higher 'head space' for me and I do place a higher value on its games and such. Weird too, since I do not do that for any other brand and I'm very conscious of such things.
I bought Windwaker HD and never got around to playing it. When the Nintendo Selects version was announced I saw the price on the version I had was very high. I sold it and picked up the Selects version.
I still have Skyward Sword unopened and I see that trending around $40 brand new on eBay so I really don't see a reason to pickup BotW Wii U for collecting or resale purposes.
I wonder how long it will be (if at all) until I'm able to obtain the Switch version for less than $48(+tax). Amazon does the 20% discount on pre-orders so I've got orders in for Mario Kart Switch and BotW Switch. I'm wondering if I should get those and then sit on them for 12-24 months until I get around to playing them or if I should wait until I get a Switch...
@Tsurii Did you look at the screen shots with rose colored glasses?
The reality is that they look almost identical. 180 extra lines of resolution that's it. Time of day is also a factor why one looks dark and another doesn't. The screenshot by the shrine is literally at night on Wii u and during the day for switch.
I'm getting the Wii u version first and switch next year when they're regularly on store shelves.
@Tsurii Well, I think the Wii U version mostly worse when you look at them side by side. SharkAttackU is right about the time of day difference, even if s/he doesn't exactly understand what rose-colored glasses mean. Aonuma has even been quoted about it being hard to replicate the same screenshot twice.
If you believe Aonuma, he says that the only difference between Wii U and Switch will be that the later has higher sound quality and the higher 900p resolution.
If you believe your eyes when comparing the E3 build on Wii U to the launch build on Switch, the later version will also have a longer draw distance (where you can actually see Death Mountain's lava from far off), much brighter lighting with better range and clarity, and better performance overall.
@Haru17 Well, there is a chance that the E3 Wii U build was an old version, and maybe they managed to improve the draw distance in the meantime. I'm not counting on it, but that could've happened.
The Kinda Funny video shows the same guardian and encampment as the Treehouse Switch demo. However, it shows for the first time how rain affects Link's arrows.
I don't think any of us have talked about HD rumble in the game, have we? I noticed it wasn't listed as a feature in that list of differences between the Wii U and Switch versions, but it's definitely a feature, according to this video I was watching. The guy says he had drowned in a swamp, and noticed the sensation of bubbles rolling up his hands as he was doing so. He said he did a couple times afterward to make sure.
So that along with the higher resolution and higher quality sounds should really heighten the sense of immersion, huh?
@Nicolai if true (and i think it will be) this is a really great add! Another reason to pick up Switch version! March 3rd can't come soon enough! This HD rumble seems fantastic, i'm super excited to test it!
So I just purchased a unique TV, a standard definition widescreen CRT. I hooked the Wii U to it with Wii component cable and oh my land it looks amazing. I watched a BotW trailer on it and literally every niggling I had with the graphics have disappeared, as if this TV was made to display just this game. The game absolutely comes to life in a way I've no seen from any video game.
So if anyone's in the market for a TV to play BotW Wii U edition I can't recommend this enough. A shame I feel that most players won't see how this game looks on a screen like this! Lol
@NinChocolate, Hmm, I'll have to try this on my SD flat screen. I remember playing New Super Mario Bros. U on an old CRT way back when it came out, and the color-bleeding made it seem more like Super Mario World. It was quite nice.
@Dezzy: I also found Eldin and Central Hyrule and Lanayru. The others look like they say Necluda, Altum, and Hebra.
It's weird how there's no name over the desert, or other areas.
@Octane, where did you find this? The url says siliconera, but I can't find it on their website. How official is it? Oh, it's from Amazon Japan. They also uploaded a bunch of screenshots. It must be official, I guess.
