So if there are at least 900 Koroks, can we confirm that this game either takes place a long time after Wind Waker or that those little guys reproduce like rabbits?

I don't think just because the Koroks are in it means it takes place after Wind Waker, I mean they evolved from Kokiri but they aren't seen in the other timelines either so it's possible they evolved into Koroks in all the timelines.
@jump Possibly, but what are the chances of that happening more than once? I mean, in real life terms it would be virtually impossible. I believe that the Koroks happened because of the Great Flood, I think that was an Adult Timeline exclusive feature, unless one of the other timelines bought it as DLC.
Is there somewhere that lists the differences between the Wii U and Switch versions?
I think I heard somewhere that the gamepad screen won't be used at all on the Wii U...is that right? What else?
I still haven't finished Twilight Princess HD or even started Windwaker HD, so I'm not really in a hurry, just trying to decide which version I should get.
@Dreamliner They are indeed the same version (the Wii U version doesn't use the second screen, they scrapped that some time ago). The Switch version will have a slightly smoother framerate and I believe the resolution is a bit higher as well. Draw distance is also better, other than that, they're the same games.
@Octane: I don't think Nintendo cares about the specifics of evolution. There's so many deviations from how evolution actually works, it's probably more of a curse than a scientific process. Kokiri are probably always destined to become Koroks.
@Octane So if I have a backlog of every Wii/Wii U/3DS Zelda to play and won't get to BotW until realistically 2018, I'm probably best to just wait and get it with the Switch?

Like I said, I'm pretty sure it's mentioned in the games that the Deku Tree "made" the Koroks. He needed someone to spread seeds after Hyrule got flooded and he just turned the Kokiri into creatures that are light enough to fly across the Great Sea.
I couldn't find anywhere where he said specifically that he made the Kokiri into the Koroks. Are you sure?
I don't have Hyrule Historia, though, so I don't know if it's in there.
"Once upon a time, long ago, the Koroks took on human forms, but when they came to live on the sea, they took these shapes. Now they fear people... but to me, they will ever be my cherished little children"
@Nicolai According to Hyrule Historia; ''The Kokiri now appear plantlike, having transformed into the Korok tribe, who spread greenery around the world [...]'' It doesn't say that the Great Deku Tree transformed the Kokiri into Korok.

I read about differences between two versions and just 2 are really relevant: Wii U at 720p and Switch at 900p while docked and better sound quality for Switch. And yes, gamepad is not used, only with gyro when shooting arrows and stuff like that
@FGPackers That seems like a pretty big difference to me; it pretty much confirms me getting the Switch version.
@Octane I'm not into collection to collect. I really see only needing to own one version of BotW, or any game for that matter.
Its a funny thing though, Nintendo does occupy a higher 'head space' for me and I do place a higher value on its games and such. Weird too, since I do not do that for any other brand and I'm very conscious of such things.
I bought Windwaker HD and never got around to playing it. When the Nintendo Selects version was announced I saw the price on the version I had was very high. I sold it and picked up the Selects version.
I still have Skyward Sword unopened and I see that trending around $40 brand new on eBay so I really don't see a reason to pickup BotW Wii U for collecting or resale purposes.
I wonder how long it will be (if at all) until I'm able to obtain the Switch version for less than $48(+tax). Amazon does the 20% discount on pre-orders so I've got orders in for Mario Kart Switch and BotW Switch. I'm wondering if I should get those and then sit on them for 12-24 months until I get around to playing them or if I should wait until I get a Switch...
@Tsurii Did you look at the screen shots with rose colored glasses?
The reality is that they look almost identical. 180 extra lines of resolution that's it. Time of day is also a factor why one looks dark and another doesn't. The screenshot by the shrine is literally at night on Wii u and during the day for switch.
I'm getting the Wii u version first and switch next year when they're regularly on store shelves.
@Tsurii Well, I think the Wii U version mostly worse when you look at them side by side. SharkAttackU is right about the time of day difference, even if s/he doesn't exactly understand what rose-colored glasses mean. Aonuma has even been quoted about it being hard to replicate the same screenshot twice.
If you believe Aonuma, he says that the only difference between Wii U and Switch will be that the later has higher sound quality and the higher 900p resolution.
If you believe your eyes when comparing the E3 build on Wii U to the launch build on Switch, the later version will also have a longer draw distance (where you can actually see Death Mountain's lava from far off), much brighter lighting with better range and clarity, and better performance overall.
