@Monkey_Balls Well, I think the Switch version is the better-looking and sounding version if you can afford the console / think it's worth it. It's also portable and loads faster.
@Haru17 I can afford the Switch, just not sure if it's worth it yet, particularly as the one game I want for it is available for Wii U. Portability, loading times, visuals, etc don't bother me too much, unless of course the Wii U version is significantly worse (which it doesn't seem to be).
The Wii U's last hurrah seems to be a must-have. I'm just not sure about a day one purchase for the Switch version (and the console itself). If the Wii U version was cancelled it would make my decision a lot easier. Are you double dipping?
@Monkey_Balls To double dip I would have to buy a Wii U, Breath of the Wild for it, a Switch and another copy of Breath of the Wild for it. Nope, all Switch for me.
I guess it just depends on if you want to play that Mario game later this year.
Personally, if I didn't already have a Wii U I would purchase one now rather than get the Switch at launch. The Wii U has a great library of games (including the Wii's library), free online, plus Zelda: Breath of the Wild (the only real reason to get a Switch at present). I'm sure the Switch will be great, but not for a year or so judging by what we've seen of it and its games. You'll probably have more fun with the Wii U in the meantime.
Are you not tempted to get the cheaper Wii U? It's personal preference I guess. Yeah, I do want to play Mario Odyssey (despite cringing at the out-of-place real world mechanics), but I can always buy the Switch nearer that game's release date. The console might even be cheaper by then, too. Hm, think I'm making my decision here. Or not. Damn you, Nintendo.
@Dezzy I pre-ordered BotW on Amazon UK last February. A couple of months ago the price went down to £35 for about a month or so. It's gone back up to £40 but due to Amazon's price promise I'll only pay £35.

I never bought a Wii U, but Nintendo couldn't have burnt me harder with the system. With no Zelda, no Metroid Prime, and no real Paper Mario game I had and continue to have no reason to ever touch the thing at its price. And that's before you consider that all of the big games are being ported to Switch (Mario Kart, Splatoon '2,' and the rumored Smash 4) or followed by strictly superior sequels (Mario 3D World < Super Mario Odyssey).
I am not someone swayed by many, less significant games. I bought a New 3DS to play Monster Hunter 4's better version and would gladly do the same even if I wanted to play Wii U games, which I really don't. Further, the promise of being future proofed in terms of Nintendo systems makes buying a Wii U for Zelda instead notion laughable prospect to me. In summation, the (even slightly) better version of Zelda of Zelda and SM Odyssey are worthier than the Wii U's entire library to me.
@Haru17 Interesting perspective regarding the Wii U. It's quite funny to hear about a non-Wii U owner being burnt by the system as it's usually U owners saying that. I'm disappointed to not get a Metroid, have a lacklustre Paper Mario and wait so long for a new Zelda, but with 50+ games the Wii U has served me well. Admittedly, the Wii U was my first HD system (I don't have an Xb360/One or PS3/4) so games like Assassin's Creed, Batman, Deus Ex, Mass Effect, etc were new to me which has probably helped sway my opinion. I see your point though. Maybe I'd be better off using that Switch money to buy a PS4, XbOne or PC and catching up on all the games I've been missing out on...
@Dezzy I always order from Amazon UK as soon as pre-orders become available. It's pretty much guaranteed that the price will fluctuate before release, and the lowest price is fixed for payment (due to the price promise). I'm pretty sure that every game I have ever ordered from Amazon has been cheaper than the pre-order or final selling price. You have nothing to lose because you don't pay until dispatch and can cancel at any time.
I surely will not get into this topic or anything about the game starting March 3rd! I really want to put myself into a travel or sort of to discover every single aspect of the Hyrule that Aonuma-san will give us! I'm really hyped about this Zelda
Any post after launch that may contain any spoilers will have to be put in spoiler tags, I'll make sure that happens. So feel free to continue visiting this thread to post your thoughts and discoveries here (in spoiler tags of course)!
