Don't u start with me, bruh!

OH!!

I have the feeling that the new Zelda is going to be much better than Skyward Sword, which was somehow disappointing, and I can wait if they need more time. It will feature a warp system for sure, like any other Zelda.

I really don't like the navigation bar of Nintendo Life continuously reappearing while browsing!!

I think that's extremely unlikely. They've got almost nothing else coming next year. They can't just have Star Fox and FE X SMT (which not many people seem to care about) and then nothing else for the year.
Either they'll release the NX next year, and/or Zelda OR they'll need to announce loads of other stuff instead.
If they had like 6 months without any Wii U games, a lot of people would just get bored and buy PS4s (which would make them less likely to buy NXs). That's what I've just done!!!

No...? Dude, a lot of people already bought PS4s. No one would blink if Nintendo dropped off of the face of the earth for a year again.

They seem to be planning on announcing a few other NX AAAs with Zelda U at a press conference next year, but it's not impossible for them to just take a year off (again).

Plenty of people can only afford 1 console at a time. The main reason I only just bought a PS4 was because I'd had the Wii U. And now I'm very unlikely to buy an NX for a few years. Whereas if I hadn't bought it (only did cos I found one cheap), I might've got the NX at launch! And before the Wii U and 3DS, I almost never bought Nintendo stuff.
This does all change a lot!

The PS4 is a pretty unique market leader. The NES, SNES, PS1, PS2, and Wii all made great strides in marketing to a more "casual" audience and achieving greater mainstream recognition for the video games industry. Each generation since the NES has had tremendous growth in overall market size. So far, the PS4 has not done that and it has pretty much only sold to the same diminishing core audience of young males.

The PS4 should be in its prime right now, but last holiday quarter (Oct-Dec 2014), the PS4 shipped less units than the Wii did in the same period of 2011, its 6th holiday on market and well past its prime. There were just a disproportionately high number of early adopters this gen, probably due to the excessive length of last gen. PS4 was the fastest selling console ever at launch and for a short period after, but it has since fallen behind the last two market leaders, Wii and PS2, launch aligned. It will fall behind PS1 too and be the worst selling market leader since the SNES.

Make no mistake, there is plenty of room for Nintendo to capture an audience that has not yet bought into current gen.

Well to be fair, it's like the PS2 generation except with more reasons people wouldn't pick up a new console.

Right, I was just saying that by "a lot of people already have PS4s" what he meant was that "a lot of 18-35 year old males who also had a PS3 or Xbox 360 already have PS4s." Since the Magnavox Odyssey launched in 1972, this is the first generation that the console market has contracted rather than expanded.

Even the PS2 had massive appeal to the casual market who didn't normally buy consoles. It was a relatively cheap (for the time) DVD player and even grandmas were buying it and its $20 bargain bin shovelware. It wasn't a dissimilar market leader to the Wii.

Every market leader in the past has had awesome games that you couldn't play anywhere else as well as features that appealed and heavily marketed to a non-traditional group of consumers. The PS4 has the awesome games part down, but it does nothing to appeal to non-traditional gamers.

Anyway, tl;dr - there's plenty of room for NX to succeed.

Edit 63: As an aside, Nintendo is wise to be looking at the mobile market for inspiration, and should be looking at the PC market too. Both are rapidly growing and leaving the console market behind.

I thought I was being retrospective, but really, Nintendo just released their financial report for Q2 FY2015, so I'm in an armchair analyst sort of mood.

You can argue that no one would notice if Nintendo disappeared if you want, but you'd have to ignore that they have the best selling exclusive content of the generation to do that. Splatoon has already outsold every PS4 and XB1 exclusive. They're also still technically the market leader this generation, but in admitting that, you'd have to acknowledge that the 3DS is a thing that exists and I know how painful that would be for you.

1) I didn't say people wouldn't notice if Nintendo took a year off from big releases, I just said it wouldn't be a big, hugely out-of-the-norm occurrence.
2) Of course the Wii U has the best selling exclusive content this generation: up until now it's only competition has been Bloodborne, Forza, and Sunset Overdrive. And now that Halo has finally come out the Wii U won't have the best selling exclusive content anymore.

They're also still technically the market leader this generation, but in admitting that, you'd have to acknowledge that the 3DS is a thing that exists and I know how painful that would be for you.

What passive-aggressive ganja are you smoking? Of course the 3DS is the 'market leader;' it has no competitors!

Why are you guys picking on PS4 sales? PS4 is freaking amazing. I haven't touched my Wii U since I bought it. Xenoblade Chronicles X will get me back on Wii U, though. PS4 has really changed my view of Nintendo. I'm mainly only in the PS4 thread now on this site. I don't even really care about Nintendo's 1st mobile game. My hype for Zelda U has been shot also. I still want it but I'm not super hungry for details anymore.

I own a Wii U and 3DS. I also own a PS4!
