Topic: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

I must admit I am starting to feel the hype. Before it was more general admiration for the scope of the game and what it does so well that no other game does (It is a giant Nintendo love letter...its one of those games that reminds you that devs were shaped by these franchises - even the ones they make- as the rest of us). Appreciation for what is obviously a great deal of technical work and well done too, but Smash has not been a game I've adored since Melee (not like that... I'm not a Melee is the only smash person, it just came out at a time that I had some free time to play it and a number of people to play with); I buy them all but they kinda sit on the shelf while I play other games.

However I am not sure what it is about right now but I am really getting excited for 12/7/18. I enjoyed all the directs but nothing grabbed me and said "you need to burst with excitement", but I'm starting to feel it now. So I guess I'm late but woo, Can't wait for smash!

I’m staying away from all the data dumps, too. I think if anyone wants to posts pics from it, spoiler formatting would be a good idea

This sucks. Why must people always ruin everything? I desperately want to avoid spoilers, but now I have to navigate the internet like a minefield for the next two weeks. Assuming I have the willpower to avoid looking at spoilers intentionally by then.

Alright, now that the mini-rant is out of the way, does anybody know if All-Star Mode is in Ultimate? I don’t remember seeing anything about it, but I probably just missed it somehow.

@lolwutTM It's in the game unlocked right from the start, but it works more like Endless Smash I think. It was in the last Direct.

The leaks helped to alleviate some fears I had regarding the story. I'm super pumped for release now. Can't wait to try out World of Light

@EvilLucario That makes sense, I guess. I was wondering if All-Star would even be in the game at all. With 74 fighters, I imagine it would have the potential to become a bit of a slog. So I suppose combining it with Endless Smash is probably a good compromise.

The leaks are pretty much a repeat of the Brawl situation that led to Smash 4 not having a story mode.

Can we at least use spoiler tags on these things? Not to be a stick in the mud, but there are things I don’t want to see yet. I have this thread on my watch list for talking about the game, but not leaked pics

@ilikeike I would like to check out those leaks. I personally only avoid story related spoilers and unrevealed characters. Would you be so kind to share your sources. I listened to the music, that wasn't hard to find. But the intro I've seen doesn't look legit, neither does most of the written information I've come across.

EDIT: I've seen the intro... turns out the footage I saw was real but someone replaced the music. Kinda meh personally.

It is a fighting game. Nothing really to spoil here. The game is filled with all the characters from all the previous games.

Still, let's respect what other users want or don't want to see.

It's not hard to add a spoiler tag.

At least until the game comes out.

Edit: Also, searching things like "Smash Ultimate classic mode gameplay" on YouTube and applying time/date filters can lead you to some archived streams. Not sure how long it'll be before Nintendo ninjas take them down though.

I feel like the biggest barrier Smash has to newcomers is the speed.

Trailers using closeup animations (that you don't get when playing the game) look great, but at full speed and zoomed out all the fun of the animations is kinda lost in the frenetic action.

Will Smash Ultimate allow you to adjust the speed the game runs at and slow it down to soak up the wonderful animation?

Put a few hours in now and it is as always a fun game. The overall game play is the same as always. A few new game modes and I really like how you only start with like 8 fighters. The rest have to be earned by playing and defeating new fighters. Everyone pretty much knows what the game is though.

Well, we know someone who has an illegal copy.

You think that is bragging? I can show you bragging if you like. You guys cry when I show pictures and give small opinion of the game. Who cares if I have the game early? So does thousands of others......
