Finally got a full 2 hour time slot to play the new Snapper Canal stage. No idea how anybody looking at the screen could ever fall into water there. I was expecting for the entire stage to be split in two by the canal, not two small pools of water. Or for the water to rise and fall every 30 seconds or so. However, I do like the layout of the stage - loads of open space but also got a bunch of corners for some more close quarter battles and surprise attacks. Still not too big of a fan of how it looks either. Not a favorite of mine but also nothing I‘d actively avoid, like Moray Towers.

@GoldenGamer88 I agree with you on Snapper Canal. The whole atmosphere just doesn't really do it for me, but it isn't my least favorite stage. That honor goes to Kelp Dome. Also, funnily enough, Moray Towers is actually my personal favorite stage.

Just got Splatoon 2 over the weekend and definitely having a lot of fun so far. Mainly have played the single player mode to get familiar with everything and have started doing online matches of the main mode, currently level 5 and definitely winning a lot more matches then when I started. Liking the game so far, the splat roller has been my go to weapon.

@GoldenGamer88 Yeah, they didn't advertise snapper canal very well. I'm very disappointed the stage isn't split in half by the canal; however, this is quickly becoming my favorite stage layout wise. I've had people chasing my in circles multiple times on the stage just for the laughs, and boy do I laugh at the people chasing me!

@NapalmPsalm Yeah, that was pretty misleading. I thought for sure it was gonna be split right in half when they first revealed it.

The layout of Snapper Canal is really different. No other stage has consistent levels of low-high ground. It's like a looonnnggg Moray Towers.

@Hieronymus-E How do you mean long? I keep seeing people call snapper canal a long stage on different sits, but it is a fairly square and small stage imo. The respawn stations are just in the corners of each end instead of the center of each end which makes it feel long, but in reality I don't think it is much bigger than pump track.

Splatoon-wise, today‘s been a pretty good day. I got my Salmon Run rank up to 180, which is a new record for me, I got my SZ rank up to A-, Mr. Grizz gave me 6(!) Ink Recovery Up chunks, and as the cherry on top, the shirt I am wearing for Ink Saver Main chunks got the exact three sub abilities I need in one of the 'modes' of my Mobility Set, making that mode almost complete. Only downside is that I now need to get a Splash Mob shirt with an okay ability. Or I might just try out the one with Ink Resistance Up and see why everyone says it‘s so essential.

Anyway, so I was looking around the square for an alternate Splash Mob shirt and saw quite a few Inklings with perfect gear. Then I wondered if having a type of ability once on each gear or all three on one doesn‘t matter, isn‘t having perfect gear a complete waste of chunks, and thus of money and time? I mean, it sure does look good but other than the 'look at what I got' factor, I really don‘t see a benefit. Maybe that it‘s then interchangeable between loadouts but from the 60 chunks wasted on a single perfect gear piece, I could‘ve put one sub ability into six pieces of gear.

@GoldenGamer88 Yeah, I don't really get the preoccupation with "perfect" gear. It might be something of a holdover from the first game, when triple subs were a logical goal given the relatively good chance of rolling them with the right brand. That still holds true, mind you, so some people may just be burning a lot of snails rather than chunks.

Of course, it does become necessary if you want to stack the heck out of one ability, but the diminishing returns make that questionable unless you're going for a significant ink saver threshold or something.

I guess interchangeability is worth something at least, but that would seriously hamper my ability to look fresh!

@GoldenGamer88 The perfect gear makes it to were you can mix and match gear to have the wanted abilities for whatever the situation calls for. If you put one on each of three gear on a certain set then you have to use those gear together no matter what, to an extent. I have a set of gear that I wanted to do the latter to for a themed set, but the shoes I would use are my favorite pair and I would use with many sets. So I'm stuck with using 60 chunks on each piece of gear for the theme. I hope that made sense.
@Zyrac I understand what you are saying. I don't try to make "perfect" gear. I basically shoot for gear with a main in one thing and three subs that match a different ability. Basically giving myself a total of 6 "main" abilities on any given set.

How about the update? Man, the splattershot pro is a monster now so I wouldn't be surprised if its usage goes up a lot. The Splat Brella makes you zoom around like crazy now which helps it a lot. The normal inkbrush is a lot better at its gorilla tactics now. And the gootuber's ability to hold partial charges helps tremendously with the long charge now. Retreating with the gootuber isn't completely retreating anymore since you can be working on your next shoot as someone pursues you. Favorite update yet!

Anyone still playing this? Purchased it on release day but did not have time to play it.

@NapalmPsalm That‘s what I‘ve been suspecting and it does make a lot of sense. I guess I just have a different way of going about the whole loadout business than others as I find that version more cost- and time-efficient. The perfect gear method is more cost- and time-efficient in the long run, though, as you can simply mix and match as you please. Maybe if I feel particularly bored and have amassed a large amount of snails, I‘ll try my hand at perfect gear. But for right now, investing my snails into rerolls seems like a waste.
I‘ve seen quite a lot of Splattershot Pros today. I tried it out myself as well, still not my type but I just gotta remember to walk backwards instead of forwards, given its range lol.

@Zeev Monday through Wednesday and on the weekends, Thursday and Friday not because then I gotta go to university for the whole day. Already invested 365 hours into it and counting. May become a little less for the days I complete Mario Odyssey. Speaking in more general terms, there are still loads of people playing.

@NapalmPsalm Yeah, Splattershot Pro got crazy bumps. I want to try it tonight and see how it feels. I like the SSP already, but it's never felt perfect to me. Could be my new favorite after this update.

Just judging from a couple Turf Wars, it feels significantly easier to kill with the Splattershot Pro now. Honestly, this buff seems like it might be a bit much, although time will tell, I suppose. Is this weapon going to be popular now? I want it on record that I used it before it was cool.

Oh, and in equally important news, Marina's dialogue for Grizzco opening was changed, I guess to make the meaning of the announcement clearer. Apparently she likes to partake in Salmon Run herself, which seems kind of... beneath her? Well, it's good to keep in touch with the working class, I guess.

Nah, Marina is totally working class. Pearl has commented on how she must feel right at home in places like the Shipyard stage. Which is kind of mean, but I like to think their friendship is on that level where it's okay for them to joke about eachother's backgrounds without any hurt feelings. But if anybody's "slumming" by playing Splatoon and Salmon Run, it's Pearl.

@JasmineDragon Does Pearl REALLY know what Marina did for a living before? Heck, does even Marina herself know? All we know for sure is she has a passion for machinery and is skilled at building... something most Octarians that we know of are quite familiar with.

Them working Salmon Run shifts does raise an interesting question: what is their opinion on Salmonids? Those fish have made contact and negotiated with Octarians before in order to get Gushers.
