I love doing this. A great strategy for sure! Also with sprinklers (as well as beacons) for Tower Control, placing one on the tower and hiding behind it can act like a shield and take a hit for you.

Haha, I would do that too if I wasn't so active while on the tower or just trying to patrol around the tower. I usually throw the sprinkler on the enemy team's side of the tower on the wall part. That way it covers their side of the turf will the tower slowly moves forward and they either have to be distracted and shoot it off or go around to a flank or back end of it, and thats why I try to patrol so I can pick those inklings off.

Thought of one more: you may want to use the "This way!" and "Ouch..." commands when there's a good reason for it. For instance, if you see a clear path in Rainmaker, saying "This way!" is a great way to get your teammate's attention. This doesn't mean that your teammates will actually follow you, but it never hurts to try! I think "Ouch" is best used when you're away from the action (making a side path for example), and you get splatted. Saying "Ouch" then lets your team know that someone is over there and to be careful. Though, I wouldn't use it if you're in the middle of the action, since your team will already be around to see. And I always save "Booyah!" for getting a knockout in Rainmaker.

I often 'Ouch!' to let my team know about danger, then 'Booyah!' if, while I'm waiting to respawn, I see that they take out the player who I was referring to...don't know how effective that communication is, but I like to think I'm doing my bit!

On a side note, apologies if I've disconnected from any matches with any of you guys - I'm not rage quitting or anything! ..I just seem to have had a few connection issues in the last couple of days for some reason

Just thought I'd throw a general apology out there in the absence of a DM function on Switch!

Wow. I just lost a ranked match because one my teammates just stood at the spawn for the whole match.
The bad thing is that the enemy won so quickly that said teammate wasn't even disconnected due to inactivity. So it just counted as a normal match, which is especially frustrating since I was on a winning streak.

The devs should rethink how to detect this and how to treat matches like this...

@Zyrac Lol, yeah, I always think of modes such as this or Competitive Play in Overwatch as the Mode for all the hardcore MLG Pro gamers and such, and this may still be true for the higher ranks in Splatoon, but having finally reached my personal goal of Level 50, the idea of just trying it out and see how it is and how much I like it compared to TW. I mean, you can play Ranked Mode starting at Level 10, how bad can it be?

Surprisingly, I've found myself getting distracted with the opposition when I first started out in Spla2n. Back in S1, I always called myself a 'Painter, not a Splatter' and then it was the opposite. Especially towards the last 30 seconds of a match, I'd go against any solo enemy near me, trying to splat them to keep them from spreading their ink. But this would often end in a longer battle than I had anticipated, keeping me from directly going after the goal of inking my turf. I don't know how many TW outcomes this influenced but I didn't find that mindset and play style very efficient so instead of picking more fights than I can chew, I have gone back to spreading my ink, hoping I'm more efficient than them at it. This may still not be a wholesome strategy but one that I find more efficient and, in a way, more satisfying since I focused more directly on the goal of the game. Don't know whether I'll be more focused on battle or the goal in Ranked but from what you're saying, it looks like my teammates tomorrow will be more of the former.

@NapalmPsalm Hadn't known that, but then again, I haven't been working much with Sprinklers in Spla2n and when I do, I usually throw one out every few seconds or so to distract oncoming enemies. Haven't seen superjumping on the battlefield that much. I'm always afraid to superjump anywhere except from the spawn because the map's covering the entire freakin screen. Definitely something I'll need to get used to. Might be investing in some quick super jump gear, too.

@GoldenGamer88 Well, you can't exactly avoid confrontation in Ranked to the degree that you can in Turf War, because the objective is in a defined place and you will have people gunning for you if you're anywhere near it. But there is still a choice to be made between focusing on the goal, and letting someone else handle it while you focus on making it eaiser for them. I tend towards the latter, but it helps to be able to change gears depending on the circumstances.

And there is this for Grizzco on 9/16. Link to reddit, but it is for the official Splatoon twitter.

I wonder if they're premiering a new weapon then.

@Maxz Would be glad to, but I don't get home until a half hour before.

Got married.

@GoldenGamer88 Using the sprinkler as bait is great! I love it, I do the exact same thing in TW. I usually throw it straight down on spawn while I push to a good choking point. I think using it as bait can still be a great use for that on certain SZ maps that you can't "hide" it, same think with rainmaker.

Super jumping... yeah, I miss the second screen so much. Just being able to move my thumb down to jump back to spawn without looking at the map was great. Splatoon one I would run a bamboozler set with super jump up and where I would literally just do hit and run tactics. Made it very thrilling. Now super jumping feels super convoluted. I have gotten better with jumping back to spawn though, but it still doesn't feel natural.

@Nicolai I'm actually more interested in the "personal items" that it looks like we'll be able to find. I'll finally get to blackmail Grizz! Mwahaha!

I interpreted that just as a way to be coy about the surprise, playing the act that Mr. Grizz doesn't have his soup together, but later shows us a surprise weapon. Some kind of new collectible or a new "pick up" system for weapons would be unprecedented but excellent!

Two stages were announced, which is nice. The Tenta Brella looks awesome too. I still wish there was more though.

Hooray, Kelp Dome's been one of my favorite arenas! Snapper Canal looks rather doll imho but I may just need to see more of it. That Tenta Brella, though. Prob gonna have a real slow fire rate.

I used to really dislike Kelp Dome for some reason (mainly because I always lost on it), but I'm hoping I'll get on better with the new version. I really dig the new Port Mackerel, so I have some faith in the tweaking powers of the developers. Snapper Canal is actually a stage I'm really intrigued by! I was hoping to be given a few more nuggets, but it's nice that some are coming so soon!

@GoldenGamer88 Like the announcer said, there's gonna be some intense stare-downs over crossing the river, at least in the Turf War version.

Tenta Brella seems to have more range and a wider shield, but also seems to open up even slower than the Splat version. Could be mistaken, though, and I wonder if it's more or less robust in taking shots.

Alone, a force. Together, a force of nature.

I really like the concept behind Snapper Canal. Kelp Dome... not what I'd have picked for a returning stage, but at least my run speed build will come in handy.

Snapper Canal looks great to me. Kelp Dome is a welcome return. The tenta brella tho. Camping will be a legitimate strategy! Did anybody catch the sub? I'll have to rewatch the video. Love my hero brella, so I can't wait. Plus the grizzco thing this weekend?! What am I gonna do? Not enough time in the day!
