Yeah hear me out.

Nintendo seems extremely reluctant to commit to the state of online gaming in general past March 31st. Hell, it’s not willing to commit to even selling some games past that date. To me these hint to some backend changes that might mean online play will see a rebuilding phase. My immediate thought is that Xbox and Switch are going to get cross play. It’s already been a competitive position they’ve used over Sony (with games like Rocket League) so that’s not far fetched. But then …

Nintendo and Microsoft are no longer competitors. Microsoft wants the home console market and is almost exclusively focused on the US market while Nintendo is interested in portable and transformative tech, a field MS has had absolutely no interest or success with. Analysts are predicted the Switch could break the hardware cycle and sustain an install base in the 100 millions, and while their first-to-market position is great, it’s not a slam dunk. Sony is a respected brand in Asia, makes phones, and has 2 successful handhelds under it’s belt. If anyone is a position to compete with Nintendo in that space, it’s Sony. But then …

Xbox division has never turned a profit, while Microsoft Studies are doing great. Why focus on hardware if you can just use your successful studies to pump out exclusives for a system with an install base factors beyond what your hardware is ever going to reach? And if you’re Nintendo, why waste money trying to position yourself against Sony in the home market when you can just buy someone already successful in that space and form an unstoppable coalition. Just … buy that division, have them keep doing what they are doing, and start branding it the “Nintendo Xbox”. How dose Sony stand against a home system more powerful then the PS5 AND a handheld as popular as the 3DS, both of them getting every exclusive Microsoft and Nintendo IP?

As Nintendo you don’t have a 800% to target month and not start thinking about huge plans. And Microsoft has gone CRAZY with scalable gameplay, ensuring you can run their games on older, inferior hardware while still getting huge advantages out of the power of the series X … was the Ori and the Blind forest port a test?

Yeah, I know, huge and a pipe dream. But … maybe not?

Edit: Apparently I made a HUGE mistake with assuming that people understand that I'm talking about selling XBOX DEVISION, who make hardware and not selling MICROSOFT STUDIOS that make games just because I clearly say that more then once. My bad.

The bethesda purchase SUPPORTS this plan, as it is MS investing more in MICROSOFT STUDIOS and is not a smart move if they plan to develop exclusively for the console with the smallest install base, but makes a lot of sense if they plan on making games for Nintendo.

There's one (well okay more than one but) problem with your theory.

Why would Microsoft have bought Bethesda if they were about to sell out?

What's Bethesda got to do with Xbox division? In fact, that strongly supports my theory as it's them adding to the already successful Microsoft Studios (A thing that is not Xbox Division) and is a move that makes about zero sense is all they plan to do is sell on the lest successful of 3 consoles.

I'm saying they will sell XBOX DEVISION, the part that makes hardware, not games, to Nintendo, and make games exclusively for Nintendo.
