Im stuck on if i should get the ps4 or nintendo switch version of sonic frontiers when it releases. as i want to get it on day one but worry if there will be possible performance issues on the switch version like there was in Sonic Colors Ultimate for the switch. should i just get the ps4 version to be safe or is there no need to worry?

I suppose it depends on how sensitive you are to playing the worst version of a multiplatform game.

Switch Physical Collection - 1,473 games (as of July 4th, 2025)
Switch 2 Physical Collection - 2 games (as of June 9th, 2025)

@Magician I did a full playthrough of doom eternal on the switch so im used to it

Get PS4 / PS5 version and you will be fine.

I only play kids games with a few rated Teen games that suitable for me.

@TheNumbr24 Pre-order both from a store that will let you no-hassle return a copy unopened e.g. Amazon.

You guys had me at blood and semen.

I will be shocked if Frontiers plays well on Switch, and will still be somewhat surprised if it plays well on PS 4. The last few games had launch issues on all platforms, and this is way more ambitious than any of those.

From what ive seen of the switch version it seems to stay around 30fps for the most part and uses a kind of upscaling, it still looks somewhat muddy compared to the ps4 one but doesn't seem too bad.

this is only going by what footage ive seen so there may be some parts where its not as good but it doesn't seem bad so far.

if you are going for day 1 though i imagine the ps4 version will be a much safer bet,.

And yet you can't take your ps4 and be on the go gaming Right? People need to seriously think before making bad replies here.

it can depend on how much someone values the portability aspect and also to weigh it up vs any performance issues whether its a good trade off, its one of the reasons those DF technical reviews can be very handy.

If that was the case the Switch seems to be selling well for a Hybrid that can be Portable and Docked mode gaming. There is going to be some loss for Ubbers games on Switch that is a given but the majority works just fine one it. Rather that's what selling and making ends meets for the NSW. The Switch doesn't sell because it's a lower powered but versatile and portable nature makes Gaming on the Go more accessible for everyone. That's how you survive the gaming market scene.

Wait for the reviews, looked at leaked footage of the switch version, and decide, I think it’s playable, and if it was my only way to play would have gotten it anyway.

Yes I know this was in October.

Let yourself be the judge but if you want the preorder bonus you better decide soon before those closes. I got the Switch version, I am a gamer for sonic since my highschool days from the arcades. But to tell posters on Switch Forum to get a PS4 is really odd here. I think if they want get more experiences a NSW version is the way to go look NMS works just fine on Switch so that is a power game just like Witcher 3 and those run just fine on Switch Docked and Portable.

You should definitely wait for reviews. Best thing is waiting for the video from Digital Foundry. I can only speak for the Xbox Series X Version because I had an early copy and finished the first big zone, that one runs like a dream but its of course no comparison to the far weaker Switch. Really hope for you that it runs well.

Not sure how much worth the word of a complete stranger is to you, but I played it on Xbox Series X today for 4 hours since my copy arrived early on Saturday. It runs flawless, not a single problem that I have encountered and I tried to fool around alot. Game itself is actually great as well and I cant believe I am saying that because I usually dont like any Sonic games, even the loved ones by fans.
