I know we have the MegaTen thread, but I'm shocked this beautiful exclusive doesn't have a thread of its own.

NEW INFORMATION:

https://www.dualshockers.com/shin-megami-tensei-v-gameplay-du...

Easy, Normal, and Hard difficulty settings will be available at launch. Players can switch between normal and easy, but you can't return to hard if you drop down from it. A "safety" difficulty is being added after launch.

Additionally, proper dungeons with gimmicks and puzzles are confirmed to be returning in SMT V.

I like the idea of Bethel being available in multiple regions as well. I'm already in love with the design of Khonsu, Bethel's Egyptian representative.

Can hardly wait. Don’t think I’ve ever preordered a game this far in advance before!

Too much of a wuss for hard mode, though. I found normal plenty challenging enough on SMT IV Apocalypse. Hate to imagine what that final boss would have been like on hard!

I can't remember how far down the demon list was reportedly reduced. Anyone know? Doesn't matter much. Regardless, SMT V will be a must-buy for rpg fans, and probably remembered as a top-ten exclusive game for the platform. Up there with MHR, AC:NH, BotW, SSBU, etc.

As someone who played Strange Journey Redux and SMT IV, I'm genuinely looking forward to the game. Honestly, seeing it get shown in the Direct Mini last year made me want to play SMT IV, and it only made me look forward to this game even more.

@Magician 200+ demons, which puts it a little bit ahead of Nocturne.

And yeah, considering Atlus' track record, as well as everything we've seen to date, something would have to go horribly wrong for this not to be a top five Switch game for me.

@Krull I'll probably start on hard and drop down if things get too hairy. The default hard difficulty ("War") in SMT IV: Apocalypse, for example, felt like the right level of challenge for that game, whereas Nocturne's hard mode is just ridiculous. In general, I'm inclined to think this is following the model of other modern Atlus releases where the "hard" difficulty is what the default difficulty would have been in past games.

@Sunsy Nice. I'm really glad they brought back the SMT IV composer for this game. Every track I've heard so far has been incredible.

Strange Journey Redux is such a great game. The game flew by a ton of people's radar.

The Harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. When the going gets tough, the tough gets going.

I've only lightly dabbled in Atlus titles in the past and only in the Persona series. They are very much my kind of games but always found they could be a little more on the tough side rather than the fun side and between that and some of the slice of life stuff being a little tedious for me, I just never ended up finishing any of their games.

However, after Jon suggested on Twitter that this is a game jaded adult Pokemon fans should really be taking a look at (paraphrasing), this went from something that I didn't even really know existed to being firmly on my radar. I am pleased to hear I can just run this on easy and just enjoy myself, too.

@Magician honestly, I wouldn’t put new horizons anywhere near the top 10 games on the platform, but you do you.

@Pizzamorg Yeah, if you're finding Persona to be tough, I'd definitely opt for easy mode with this game, as SMT is historically far more hardcore in terms of the difficulty. But you'll probably enjoy it more anyway, since these games don't have you on a schedule like the Persona games. And there absolutely is more of a Pokemon-ish element to this, considering your demon allies are your party members and fight alongside you in battle (whereas personae really only appear when you're using their abilities). And, of course, no social sim stuff. You don't need to worry about dating, working jobs, studying, etc.

Yeah it just sounds like the perfect game for me. Not sure why this didn't end up on my radar before, maybe in the back of my mind I was concerned it would be like Persona and I just figured I'd played a couple of those, really wanted to like them but just bounced off. But this really seems like it will have all the parts I liked, less of the parts I didn't like and it comes with an easy mode. So colour me excited.

@Ralizah Maybe I should give hard (or whatever War is) a go. Still got wiped multiple times playing on Conflict, though.

@Ralizah That's really good news, even as someone who first played SMT IV last year, the soundtrack has been pretty memorable. Looking forward to the soundtrack SMT V has in store.

@MsJubilee I was really unaware of it until a couple of years ago, I stumbled across a copy at a local shop. Bought it and don't regret it.

As always, we should expect quality. Atlus never fails with the English dub, except for Strange Journey Redux.

Dub trailer just went live.

It's... fine? Don't recognize any of the names, but most of the voices strike me as being appropriate for their characters, so it's all cool (Tao's VA clip wasn't great, though).

Not sure why this needed to be contextualized as a "cast reveal."

At least we don't have any "Chris Pratt as Nahobino" moments.

@Ralizah Honestly pretty happy with the casting, some unknown actors but they sound fine to me. We have female Byleth as Tao, Seteth as Yuzuru, Dimitri as Fionn, Kasumi as Nuwa and Futaba as Sahori. Hopefully they won't reveal anything else until the release date, I'm very excited with everything I know. Can't wait to play it!

Sounds more like a fan dub, than something professionally done.

@Primo40295 tbh the only issue I ever have with Atlus dubs is that they often flub the pronunciation of Japanese names. If they can nip that in the bud, I'll be happy enough with it.

@Ralizah Hopefully we can try both languages, that would be the best option for me.

@Primo40295 Atlus confirmed in a previous trailer that both Japanese and English vocals would be available.
