The Sankei News has published a report on Nintendo making their next big move in the video game market.
According to their report, Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa said during the recent strategy briefing that “(Nintendo) will create the demand in order to have each person own their very own Nintendo Switch”.
This implies that in order for Nintendo to have multiple members of a household to own a Nintendo Switch, they will create an affordable option such as the Nintendo Switch Mini, which reportedly is portable and easier to bring out than Nintendo Switch.
The article also seems to suggest that the Nintendo Switch Mini will “replace” the Nintendo 3DS as the budget option of Nintendo systems, as Furukawa pointed out the 3DS market has been shrinking faster than they expected.
Probably....
Switch Mini = Switch + 3DS + NDS - Console mode.
As long the monitor size is as big as Normal Switch with less bezel, add some colorful choices, it will be great.

That doesn't imply anything more than bringing more software. It really doesn't imply anything at all. In fact, the Sankei article doesn't even suggest a Mini would replace 3DS. Bad conjecture on Nintendo Soup's part, and Sankei's part.

What I like if this comes true is not leaving out the game slot doing so would be akin to Foot and Mouth disease and will kill it before it comes out. Also should include these version.
1. Switch Game Slots not just a Digital download
2. Slots for 2DS/3DS game slot
3. SD slot for more storage
I would appreciate a portable-centric Switch. Even though the current model isn't unreasonable as a portable device, the console does cause fatigue with extended play while laying in bed. Because of that, and my arthritis, I'd be a day-one buyer for a more ergonomic model. Smaller screen, remove the joy-cons, remove the hd rumble, $179-$199 with a charger sold separately? Yes, yes, all my yes.
Switch Physical Collection - 1,247 games (as of April 15th, 2024)

To the hand cramp I got the GripCase which helps that is something portable gamers have to invest in now and most likely they will have to get one for the mini if such comes out. But I looked at the article translated and doesn't mention a Mini. The only mention is the writer talking about a Mini. So since it doesn't come directly from the mouth of "Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa" what it is - that become purely speculation on the part of the writer.
And it could be a Switch without a Dock as well since Docks can be bought separately. But I myself would be surprised by a Mini since the Vita is no more.
I already think it's a negative that the console demands you switch to handheld mode on some levels on some games (Rayman being one), and use joycons on others (Mario party). If they fragment what consoles can do which games, then it's incredibly bad for the Switch brand.
That's is the biggest downside if there is a Mini you will have to invest in a pair of Joy-cons and that will raise price along if they make a dock for Mini Specs then that is two hardware that will jump the Mini price from being inexpensive to same price for Standard Switch. Now if they surprise us with a Switch 2.0HD Pro I be enthusiastic and go broke buying it. You can buy used Joy-Con but not a Mini Dock so there will be trade off to having a Mini. And if they do I hope they really plan and do this release with planning not just were releasing this for release sake.

This is pretty much what I gathered on this. I love when others write similar thoughts to mine. It saves time on my end.
@Agriculture: I'm curious; which games require you to switch into handheld and/or tabletop mode? I like having the full option to do either/or. (If it's not obvious, I have no Switch just yet)
Currently playing: Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr's Journey, Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana (Switch)

Rayman is the only one I know which requires you to undock. In Rayman there are these levels where you cut vines to get Rayman to land just right and it requires you to undock the console and use the touchscreen (the game doesn't even let you enter the level). That reminded me of the PS Vita and Vita TV, which I considered buying when it costed 40 euros. I never bought it because you had to check every game for compatibility with the PS TV.
It already sucks you can't use your pro controller on all Switch games, but at least when you buy a Switch you get everything you need to play every game. If Nintendo changed this, I think it will hurt the console. A Switch with no detachable joycons means a Switch that can't play Mario Party.
