@Grumblevolcano @GrailUK I think there's a chance Metroid Prime 4 is exclusive to the Switch 2...If it was me I would have new 3D Mario, Metroid Prime 4 and a 4K (DLSS) remaster of Windwaker or Twilight Princess to really show off the visuals the new system is capable of.

@MarioBrickLayer Sunshine 2? Wow, the Mario fans really need a new game if the desperation has reached the point where a Sunshine 2 is even asked for

Wait, why do we need a Sigurd? I mean signature, jeez.

@MarioBrickLayer Well, until they even announce their next system, it's impssible to think what launch titles are. It's also hard to think Nintendo will try to sell their games on visuals lol. What I do know is, Nintendo announced Metroid Prime 4 on Switch and we will see it on Switch. They have that kind of integrity

I will take that bet. You can decide the stake.

In the current climate, I think the perfect launch games would be Mario Kart 9, Splatoon 4 and Animal Crossing Beyond the Horizon (or something lol.) Hit the ground running with online engagement. It'll be backwards compatible so any major zelda / mario will be playable (maybe even bumped up visually - along with Pokemon). A strong third party line up for the 'on the go' vibes aaaand a game that highlights any new gameplay principles of the console. Who knows, maybe it's the next Mario game that's cross gen. Not sure if that's happened before!) The Switch 2 is going to sell regardless but I'm not as convinced as most that visuals will be the main selling point. That'll just help get the games...which wil be the main selling point.

(I really do need to stress guys. I am always wrong with this sort of thing hahahahah! You are probably right!)

@gcunit How about whoever is wrong has to put something like X was right about the release of Metroid Prime 4 in their footer for 6 months?!

It depends on

It depends. It needs to be at least on par with or better than Steam Deck to compete in the handheld/hybrid marker or be on Par with Series S as a minimum if they decide to go full home console again (which is what I'm wishing for). I know quite a few of my friends and relatives who bought a Switch that likely won't update to a new system - they only bought it for AC during Lockdown and hardly play anything else.

I think Nintendo will be feeling very twitchy as the next console could easily go rhe way of the Wii-U where only "core" Nintendo fans buy it and it ends up failing.

If the next console isn't at least competitive with what's already availability this will be the first Nintendo console that I don't buy. I'm sick of all the cutbacks needed for rhe games ro run.
I've bought every Nintendo console since the Gamecube on day 1. I had the snes and 64 as well but these were gifted at Christmas so obviously wasn't able to get them at release.

@MarioBrickLayer That's a hard question. Part of me thinks that they are saving Galaxy 2 for a new console or 40th anniversary extended re-release of 3D all-stars.

For now I might slightly prefer a New Sup collection, but only if they added a little bit of quality of life updates. Honestly I hadn't considered the possibility of such a collection, but I want it now that I am thinking about it.

I especially like the idea of a New Sup collection release leading up to a future entirely new type of 2D Mario game. I mean, I would take the new game immediately if we are getting it, but assuming we aren't this year, getting all the old 2D games ported first would be neat.

@GrailUK Animal Crossing is a good shout, I think it will release in the first 2 years.

I think Splatoon needs a little break as we had Splatoon 3 and 3. If rhe Switch 2 releases in 2024 I think Splatoon 4 is released in 2026.

With all the DLC for MK8 I don't think it will be a launch title, I think they'll wait a year...so 2025.

@Chaotic_Neutral I don't know if you are right. (By all means, you very well could be - I'm not being argumentative here lol!) But the Switch is outselling the Steam Deck as is. It's a different market. Apples and oranges. Both fruit but different. I'm sure it won't be no slouch as NVidia will more than likely be all in on the next console. But I don't think Steam Deck is their concern. I think it's more likely for another company to trump it after it has launched. (Kinda like how Microsoft upped XBox memory at the last minute after the gamecube launch.)

They have made lots of decisions over the years that Nintendo fans didn't like, it wouldn't be a huge shock if MP4 wasn't on the Switch.

@MarioBrickLayer I mean... I was hoping to take your money, but sure, I'm a bit too busy to post much at the moment, so I could do with a bit more positive marketing around here 😉

@GrailUK
For Mario Kart 9 , I really want to see the gameplay like from the movie version with more drama. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is good but still too safe in my opinion compared with ModNation and Skylanders Superchargers as comparison.

@Anti-Matter I wouldn't know what adding drama to a racing game means I'm afraid

Peach being slowly lowered into a vat of oil if you don't get to the end in time. And shortcuts which you can only do by killing pedestrians. o.o

I guess they could re-release the 3D All Stars collection to cash in that movie hype (maybe even with SMG2 this time, heck, throw 3D Land in there too) and still have a new 3D Mario ready for the next system’s launch year. Seems like the best business decision and one that would also please fans.

What’s to say Odyssey 2 even exists? Galaxy 2, the only 3D Mario sequel which was originally planned to be a set of dlc for the first game but was made into a full one due to the devs having a lot more level ideas, was released just over three years after the first game.

The only problem with this statement is that DLC wasn't even an option on the Wii. Those extra ideas they had floating around for Galaxy had to be either be polished enough for Galaxy 1 to launch in that game or be padded out enough to justify an entirely new release. The only full release Wii game ever to get "patched" through the Wii Shop was Skyward Sword. And that was via a secondary app you downloaded which wrote to the save file.....

As I said earlier, probably in another thread, the Galaxy 1 -> Galaxy 2 scenario isn't something we should be looking at as if it's some kind of precedent. It was a very different market and a very different piece of hardware with very different kinds of limitations. As you said in your post, if there was a "Galaxy 2" for Odyssey we would've had it as DLC already. So if we're getting some new Mario soon it's probably going to be entirely different.... like we already got with Bowser's Fury....

Couple of things. Firstly as much as I like to talk about specs I don't think the average consumer cares about specs that much that they're going to be looking at new hardware like this. I think they'll come close to matching the Steam Deck, especially if developing to the hardware, but I don't think people will be looking at Digital Foundry performance analysis charts while walking into the shops

The bar it has to clear is entirely different. What it needs to do to sell is the same thing any new platform needs to do. It needs to justify its existence with software. Whether that's some new exclusive or whether its this existing Switch game will run better over here. Hell, it might even be something like you can play these games about the same as you would on the Steam Deck but this Nintendo hardware is slimmer, has a better battery life, is in stock and can also play Zelda/Mario games without having to fiddle around with piracy and emulation

........... not commenting on the idea that it'll be a "home console" because that's a dumb idea and it won't be

@TheBigBlue A natural evolution of MK8's approach would be MK Ultimate with "Everywhere and everyone is here!". Currently MK8 Deluxe has 80/162 tracks and by the time the Booster Course Pass is finished MK8 Deluxe will likely have over half the franchise's total tracks (the total will be more than 162 as Tour still gets brand new courses every so often) so it's at the point where more Booster Course Passes feels like the more likely approach to achieve that than Smash Ultimate's approach of create a new game. So like either Booster Course Pass 2 and then Booster Course Pass 3 or have Booster Course Pass 2 and then have a packaged version for the next Switch which has the missing tracks like @Professor_Plumber suggests.
Either way I do think MK8 will last longer than GTAV.

Hell no. Hell no to all of this. Having every track in one game would just be too much content for them to want to provide and they know they're wearing on people's patience dragging out MK8. They have to move on sometime, and next gen is a good time to do so. And they definitely feel like they're gearing up for next gen next year with how many of the big guns are utterly due for a new entry now but have just continually not happened. But let Mario Kart move on ffs, there's far too much they can do to actually improve on MK8 for them to just go "LOL more tracks" at this point. New, original MK at launch next year, nothing less.

If there's any game that could get the MK8D treatment, it's Smash Ultimate. Sakurai's retiring, Ultimate is a hard act to follow, and the remainder of the team is probably going to need until the Switch 3 (or whatever the successor to the Switch's successor is) to figure it out. Porting Smash Ultimate + DLC and adding even more DLC would be a good way to buy themselves the time they need to decide and come up with something really good.

@Bolt_Strike Original MK makes the most sense...
But this is Nintendo we're talking about, so I fully expect Mario Kart 8 Ultimate

I do wish for the full Smash cartridge with the DLC though... That would be nice...

Zelda TOTK is amazing and should be GOTY
