To be fair on this US vs Europe thing with Violence vs Sex content being tolerated I think just about every culture draws the line differently for different things. Eg I think Australia is far more willing to make jokes at the expense of figures of authority than the UK is. And also far more colourful in our language I'd guess. But also I think most people who come here would be kinda shocked at how prevalent gambling is.
But on the other side the OFLC, our movie/games/media classification board, is kinda infamous for being pretty heavy handed with the ban hammer. Pretty much always for drugs, violence and especially sexual violence. Which I think in at least two of those three cases is probably fair I think. But again, I'm saying that from within this culture
Australia, where you can probably call the Pope a c*** on prime time national TV in nothing but your birthday suit but where a game that has you take drugs to improve your abilities is a step to far
@skywake I can't comment on Australia as I've never been although I have met a few who moved to the UK and I have watched Neighbours!
The C word can be used casually in the UK (which I've only noticed as Americans through my missus' family and my company which is based in the US get shocked at) and we have a long tradition of mocking our leaders with stand up, tv and half the time I go to a punk/alt gig there is always the mandatory F the tories. There a few hoity toity types that won't but it's like that in every country although it here it's divide by class division which is more mental than other countries. I suppose the Queen has been off limits for most people, when The Sex Pistols got to number one in the charts with God Save The Queen they fudged it so there wasn't a number one that week or it ended up as number 2 in different charts but in general any other member of the Royals have been fair game or even hated.
Nudity is mostly fair game too, I was flicking the channes and saw this horrible British dating show where the people are naked and the lucky contestent picks the naked person they like the most plus Eurotrash was just this barmy show which was always showing flesh.
Sorta connected but still off topic, I do love watching parliament debates. It's almost like watching a rubbish comedian where our MPs try to do one line zingers to put down the opposite party but they have to do it respectably like "You good sir don't know what you're talking about as you're a fad which has crashed just like the crypto currency you support" type stuff.

To be clear I was most definitely referring to the Royals being a bit more off-limits in the UK as well as the class divide which is more of a thing. A few days ago I was watching one of those panel/comedy/quiz shows here where they had a special guest from the UK to ask some questions. He asked what song did Elton John play as tribute to the Queen which of course was answered immediately with "Another One Bites the Dust" and then they doubled down with "Killer Queen".
I got the feeling from the way the guy from the UK was reacting that you couldn't have gotten away with that in the UK on national TV. A similar sort of reaction you see when Americans come on and well, anything with any kind of colour happens
@skywake To be honest I saw more foreigners being upset by the Queen than actual Brits in my social media apart from my sister who spent 7 hours in line just to walk past her coffin and didn't even get a selfie, that's bloody insane to me. The pub I was in the day she died had happy chants about her.
There is a big divide on pro royal and anti royal, 40% are pro royal, 30 anti and 30 indifferent but yeah, whoever went on national tv to make fun of her would be slaughtered around the time of her death, much more than just a "Too soon" telling off. That is just her as she's done are fairly decent job (apart from killing those Kenyans, hiding King Edward's Nazi links, paying millions to protect a pedo etc) and that moment though, she has been ridiculed before on shows like Spitting Image and various panel shows. I saw lots of jokes about Prince Andrew (because he's a *****) recently and King Charles won't have the same reaction when he dies.
Yeah, the ACB (As the OLFC are now known) are absolute shockers. They don't just rate games like the ESRB and PEGI do but will actively require censorship of them and still hand out frequent bans.
Recent highlights include a ban on Deathsmiles 1 and 2 (which currently hold a 12 rating from PEGI,) Wasteland 3 requiring drug references to be removed to be released at all, and an outright ban on Disco Elysium - also for drug use - that was only later overturned on appeal.
There was also a weird state of affairs where the highest rating a video game could have until 2013 was the 15+ one, such was it ingrained into their culture that video games were only really for children.
Absolutely nothing of value would be lost if they were disbanded and the country just adopted the PEGI system instead.
I'd think the problem for Australia is that it never had enough of a film or games industry - unlike the US, Japan or Western Europe - that was powerful enough to lobby for the right to regulate itself. As such, we're stuck with a bunch of government appointed moral guardians, subject to the whims of media-induced panics.
Also, most of the world is even worse. I'm sure you don't have to imagine what a totalitarian government that treats everything as potential propaganda is going to do with video game classifications.
Anyway, if you can see a bunch of shallow and pervy games being sold online, I'd think you should just see it as a sign that you're living somewhere with a high tolerance for artistic expression, and that there'll be other creators making far more interesting uses of it. The alternative, of living in places where games like that get banned, probably isn't as good as you think it might be.

This is the correct take

"Don't stir the pot" is a nice way of saying "they're too dumb to reason with"

I also agree with this take.

Sorry for not being active much recently, but I’m very much alive!
People now days think they know but know even less. This is kinda like freedom of expression by game developers. One doesn't have to view the content but if someone complains about it that to me tells that's their interested otherwise why advertise is.
