This is one of the most beautiful looking and sounding games on the Switch. It's got a lengthy demo which is definitely worth playing for anyone who loves platformers although I would say it's also a must download for anyone to experience. This is the most gorgeous 2D platformer together with Rayman Legends. The full game is very reasonably priced
Why is nobody talking about this game??? This is like, one of the best games this generation. A demo is out so everyone can try for themselves.
It looks even better on Switch Lite btw.

Well I've had it on Steam for 2 or 3 years. It starts out with such promise, but I found it pretty samey and by the time I reached the swimming section I was a bit bored of it and kinda ditched it.
I've not given up on it, but I'm in no rush to buy the Switch version. I'll try the demo and see whether it reignites any passion in me. But I've preferred playing Guacamelee and Hollow Knight more since.
And this comes from someone who wanted to love it. I'd heard how good it was and I'd seen how good it looked, so much so that I bought the physical version for PC (I barely ever buy PC games physically). I love the title screen and the music, but I just didn't seem to find it carried through into the game quite as much as I hoped.
I was looking for an ori thread yesterday and thought about creating one. But i dont know enough about the game yet to start a thread for it. Im glad you did though. Since its a metroidvania, ill definitely need some help at times and I'm sure this will be the place to ask. Since it was revealed, I've been so excited to try it, only because how much YouTuber's I watch talked about it. I've watched very little gameplay, but from what ive seen it looks great. So yea Im pumped for it. Looking forward to Friday
The intro is nice, but it takes about 10 min before gameplay starts in earnest. Soon you'll have several ability upgrades, wall jump which is crucial, and energy expansions for health.
I bought this game on X1, then again on Steam, and now on Switch, and it still puts me in awe to this day. The only game I've ever played to go toe to toe with DKC Tropical Freeze in terms of gorgeous environments and precision gameplay mechanics. It really does feel like a first party Nintendo game.

a) The game is as beautiful and enchanting as ever.
b) It reminds me that, in some ways, the best of the game is that opening half hour. Unlocks come quickly and the presentation is possibly the most captivating of any game I've ever played... but I seem to remember the pace drops off after this, the story beats and the doses of that spellbinding choral theme thin out, and they're so good that when they're not there you miss them and its absence left me a bit underwhelmed, I seem to remember.
But don't misinterpret, I'm not bagging out the game. The demo is a sublime experience that everyone should experience at least once, but my advice to prospective buyers new to Ori is just not to expect the magnificence of the opening half hour to be sustained at quite that standard throughout the rest of the game.
But I'm delighted it's hitting the eshop at such a sensible price. Digital purchases can be exploitative, and we've all heard of and experienced the 'Switch Tax' so it's been a really pleasant surprise how many of the very best eshop games have released at sensible prices - Stardew Valley, Rocket League, Hollow Knight, Cuphead and now Ori - if you're only ever going to buy 5 games on the eshop, you could do a lot worse then these 5.
The game is by no means easy, but it’s not Hollow Knight level of brutal either. Of course the demo might seem easy because it’s only the first 25 minutes of the game.

So i fired up the demo and watched/played the intro and wow. It was One of, if Not, THE best intro in a game ive ever seen. Both visually and emotionally. I'm being honest when I saw it's close to the best looking game I've seen on the switch. There's so much detail and so Many layers to the world it's stunning. I can tell this is going to be a great game.
And given the gorgeous art style and environments and emotional pulls, one could be forgiven for thinking the allure of this game is it ambience and story, but in reality all of that takes a backseat to just how immaculate the gameplay is.
Ori really is the full package. It has it all. It’s one of the most visually stunning games on the system (if not the most beautiful game on the system), it’s emotionally charged, the characters are adorable and charming, the atmosphere is gripping, the environments are lush and beautiful, the gameplay offers pinpoint precision mechanics, The level design is top notch and progress is just the right pace, and it runs flawlessly at full HD output.
Ori is a shining example of what an excellent game looks like, and what an excellent Switch port should be.

Just gave the demo a whirl and had a really good time (will for sure pick it up soon, but I want to wait and see if that leaked physical copy by THQNordic a while back will release), but the save system doesn't seem to work in it - it keeps booting me back to the prologue, even after I create and save with Soul Links. Is that just how the demo's set up, or is quitting to the menu screwing things up?
@PikaPhantom
That’s just the demo. It doesn’t save (though the developers did say your progress would carryover, i’m not sure if that’s true). Doesn’t really matter though because the demo is only like 15 minutes long if you know where to go.
In the actual release the saving will work using Soul Links.
