Tried out a few characters in the demo, and it's gorgeous! Beautiful graphics. The lighting seems improved over the last couple of HD2D games, and the depth of field blends seamlessly as you walk up and down.
And the music is simply amazing! Even just the tutorial quests contain so many great songs that make me pause and take a few minutes to listen to.
I'm planning on getting it in a few days! How is it performing for everyone else who is already playing it?
Bought a copy on general principal. I love this genre and I support Square Enix whenever they make the choice to publish rpgs on Switch. But I uh...still need to play the first game, lol. So I'll get around to this eventually, maybe.
Switch Physical Collection - 1,247 games (as of April 15th, 2024)

Haven't played the demo yet, but the visuals did look noticeably improved over the original in trailer footage, which did make me wonder how this would run on Switch.
Although I'd expect similar performance between the demo and full release, since the demo literally just appears to be based on the final build of the game.
Demo wasn't bad - I just grinded the thief character first and started from there to the cleric and philosopher and now to the Beastkin chapter. I does help to get them leveled up that is helps to enjoy the story lines and do more in return. So far the first three characters are 19, 18. 18 so I have to get the BeastKin girl to at least 18 now before advancing and meeting up the storyline. It is a grind but I am enjoying making beef jerky and coins along the way. As I found on the main land start the night stands have high level items but are out of reach of my coins right now.
I did not buy the game at launch as I was disapointed with the previous entry's endgame (tied to any obscure sidequest and very very grindy) altough I really liked the combat in it. However I heard some people talk about this one solving many of the problems so I decided to give it a go. I am still very early on with two characters unlocked but would like to know what are the feelings on it from you guys.
This game really hits the spot for me right now. I'm nearing the end of my degree so I don't have the time for and don't particularly feel like being swept up in a grand narrative, so these bite sized chapters to end the evening with are a blessing. I'm a big fan of the artstyle, it sort of evokes a childish wonder in me — the only thing I would've loved if there were character portraits when they are talking. I'm 20+ hours in and looking forward to my time with it each night. I especially like Temenos, whose sassy and flamboyant take on the cleric character is refreshing to me.
So far I think it's an improvement on the first in almost every way (perhaps the villains are a tad more cartoonish in this one). I think they found a way to perfect the combat with the latent skills, which add just that extra layer of strategy. I don't always enjoy this genre staple of bosses with huge HP bars, but they have seemed managable so far.
The music is lovely too, I hope it finds its way to theathrythm at some point.
@Suicune I'll be pretty bummed if we never get an Octopath Traveler II pack in Theatrhythm. It's cool that we're getting a pack for the first game and there's some good songs in there but the soundtrack for the second game blows it out of the water IMO so that's what I really want.
@BenAV Yes, same. I love Theatrhythm but I have no history with FF so I just enjoy the gameplay and music. If Octopath II would come I'd have some fresh memories to relive.
@BenAV HArdest of agrees. Before February this year, I thought nothing could beeat OCtopath I's OST. somehow yasunori nishiki surpassed himself, the lad!
Well I finished the game tonight. I played on ps4 for the trophy system. I got all the trophies which is something I don't normally do. I can say I enjoyed this game very much and hope they continue on with this series.
Approaching 45 hours, and I'm absolutely amazed at how much better it is than the first. It truly feels like this game is the perfection of team Asano's craft (and they already hit an extraordinary high with Triangle Strategy in the first place). Sad this game seems to be a bit overlooked this year, I figure the exlusivity deal of the first one with Nintendo's promo and the entailed (not necessarily negative) envy of other platform holders created an enthusiasm that hasn't been replicated this time around. A shame!
