@Slowdive I hate hypotheticals like that as I find it just stupid logic to take a made up an example and apply it to everyone and misses a full picture of the situation whilst also ignoring counterpoints of kids are spoilt and will be getting multiple presents anyway, the demographic are not only small kids, there could be siblings to get a copy one and the other one the other game, it’s literally not stopped Nintendo in the past with far closer related big titles, are there 20 million children which are only allowed one game a year, who says the game must only be given as a Xmas present, Ninty games are evergreens so people will pick it up down the line so it’s not a lost sales etc.
@Slowdive Head of Nintendo at a meeting “Right team, we want a strong holiday line up this year like we have done in the past to compete with people who may be drifting towards those new PlayStations and Xboxs as their main consoles, keep them playing on a Switch and they will keep buying Switch games. So let’s have Pokemon and Zelda come out in FY Q3 within a 2 to 3 window which is our best selling period to show we mean business”
Random Nintendo employee “But sir, there’s a poor kid in another country who parents only let him have one game for this thing called Christ Mass”
Head of Nintendo “in that case, forgot those millions and millions of sales will could make and we will release Zelda a year later. No one will mind anyway”
I think the remakes will come on the 3rd Friday of November (November 19th 2020) as it has been main series tradition since 2014 in years there's been a game release.
BotW 2 I still think will be around March 2022, launching alongside the new Switch revision. Either BotW 2 needing more time or Nintendo can't get enough supply for launching the new Switch revision this holiday to be worth it. Base Switch and Switch Lite would likely be the only systems with decent stock this holiday much like last holiday.
I don't buy the switch revision even coming, given again, Nintendo said they can't produce normal switches due to the chip shortage. I can't wait for if they do reveal and release it, and everyone on this site starts complaining about it being scalped though.
Edit: I wouldn't expect any big revision until 2022, seeing as that's probably how long the shortage is going to last.
@VoidofLight If I was partnered with NVidia and together build a console expanding on current tech that offered a software solution to greatly enhance performance, no way I would be sleeping on that. First to market is really important. Sure, it will be mostly used as a pro model for existing games (might have one or 2 exclusives like 3DS) but folk will upgrade overtime and they can start to make more exclusives eventually to keep folk wanting to upgrade aside from specs. They have a long roadmap for the Switch. And as they have put all their eggs into one basket so to speak, it wouldn't be prudent to wait for sales to fall to a low level like it was a next gen console. (I reckon) It's hard to say because we don't have the numbers. Who knows, by the end of the year, they might be indicating that sales are still on the up!! But either way, I reckon the president is very aware the Switch needs to be seen as state of the art (but not in the traditional sense of throw as many chips in as big a box as possible sense.)
@GrailUK The thing is, what good is a "Switch Pro", if it can't even get into the hands of the consumer? There's a literal chip shortage, and Scalpers are taking full advantage of it. Nintendo can't even manage to produce enough normal switches right now to meet demand, so I don't see how people are expecting them to produce enough "Switch Pros" to do so as well.
Not to mention, you shouldn't expect exclusive games on switch pro, or at least many. If a game's exclusive to a console revision, chances are it won't sell well. The games that were exclusive to the New 3Ds didn't even sell that well, due to it being exclusive to a mid-gen refresh of the console.
"It is fate. Many have tried, yet none have ever managed to escape it's flow."
@VoidofLight Yeah, I see your point. Weird times indeed. Totally agree with you about this year. And I would be surprised (but crazy happy lol) if we saw one this year
I never drive faster than I can see. Besides, it's all in the reflexes.
I'm expecting Nintendo's lineup for this year, a reasonable amount of notable 3rd party games, and one or two MAJOR announcements with either a vague 2022 or no date at all. Also if we don't get BOTW2 gameplay, I'd bet money a Zelda direct is happening this year.
"It was the Nintendo 64's top seller during the 1999 holiday season and Nintendo's chief defense against competitor Sega's introduction of its Dreamcast console. As a bestseller, Donkey Kong 64 joined Nintendo's "Player's Choice" game selection, where it continued to sell well through the next year's holiday season."
Yeah, and even if DK 64 wasn't the greatest that doesn't mean they can't do better the next time around. Mario Sunshine was a dud in all respects, yet the next several 3D Mario games were excellent. Bottom line is what matters at the end of the day, not whether people on the Internet are happy with it (see: the Pokemon franchise).
W.r.t. DK64, this is a weird game where I remember it being quite fondly remembered until recently. Personally I've never played much of it, but hearing about it its more egregious collectathon mistakes makes me never want to touch it again.
Yeah, Donkey Kong certainly deserves another chance at 3D. I give DK64 the benefit of the doubt because I can get some enjoyment over it, even though it’s far from perfect, and I actually struggle recommending it to others.
If the Super Mario Odyssey team is working on it, consider my hype peaked. It could really be something special.
We're going to get a new 3D Mario at some point...given a choice of the NEXT game released by this team (i'm assuming no other team would be given responsibility for a 3D Mario game) would you prefer a 3D Mario game or a 3D Donkey Kong game?
I know other teams were involved in Bowsers Fury, this is just a hypothetical question!
My prediction for Pokemon info outside the more obvious stuff like Diamond/Pearl remakes info:
New Pokemon Snap DLC
More Pokemon added to Sword/Shield
There's Pokemon in both New Pokemon Snap (e.g. Meganium) and the Diamond/Pearl remakes (every Gen 4 Pokemon not in Sword/Shield) that aren't in Sword/Shield so I could see another update to add more. With Pokemon Legends Arceus being single player only and the divide between the Pokemon in Sword/Shield and Pokemon in the Diamond/Pearl remakes, the main Pokemon games even after early 2022 will still be Sword/Shield.
As for New Pokemon Snap DLC, Pokken DX got DLC a few months after launch so I could see the same happen here.
@timleon In terms of it's controls and platforming aspects, DK64 is probably my favorite of all the collectathons of the era. The big issue is that people lately seem to find the fact that 100%ing it is disasterously annoying enough to make the whole game a trash can fire.
I still think it's fun for just reaching the end without trying to get everything
