@Bolt_Strike knowing Nintendo, the Nintendo EPD tokyo developed Donkey Kong game is problaby a 2D Donkey Kong game, Nintendo is not stupid to release another mistake like DK 64, after how badly recieved DK 64 was, and 3D games is also too risky and costly to make, Mario will remain the only 3D plataform series for Nintendo, if you expecting a 3D Donkey Kong game for Nintendo EPD tokyo, you are just preparing yourself for disapointement.
@RR529 the mario game of this year is gonna be the rumored Donkey Kong game developed by Nintendo EPD tokyo(2D Donkey Kong game), Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild 2 is gonna release in holiday 2022/2023, the 2D Metroid game developed by Mecury Steam might release in august(Metroid 35th anniversary month), Bayonetta 3 migh release on Halloween 2021 or summer 2022, the remake de Diamond e Pearl is gonna be the Switch holiday title(the typical novembre game), Pokémon Legend Arceus releasing in march or april2022,he next mainline Kirby game for the 30th anniversary of the Kirby franchise is gonna release in 2022(first 3D Kirby game for the 30th anniversary of the Kirby franchise in 2022?
@Slowdive I don't really see what's debatable about this. I mean really, what does Klonoa do that Kirby doesn't? Kirby inhales enemies and can spit them out or swallow them for copy abilities, and can jump infinitely. Klonoa inhales enemies and can spit them out and can double jump. So Klonoa is basically just Kirby except he doesn't have copy abilities and can only double jump instead of jump infinitely. Kirby 64 also has the same kind of 2.5D level design Klonoa has. So like... why bother keeping Klonoa when Kirby can do everything Klonoa can but better?
@Slowdive Ah okay, I knew we fought hard on 3D-All Stars in particular, so that kinda came to mind lol.
@timleon I agree on Bayonetta 3. I still think it's either an October 2021 or Feb-April 2022 title. Like, we've already been told that we should be getting info this year, and knowing how much Kamiya will say 'expect nothing' if there will be nothing, I'd trust him on this. The guy might be abrasive, but he's always been honest.
Hope the Zelda and Metroid are covered for everyone else, and Bayonetta too. My hopes are riding on Sonic's anniversary and, to a lesser extent, the Smash newcomers. Shantae is the best option in my book, but still plenty of newcomers that would be neat.
@Slowdive There's nothing stopping Kirby from being those things too. Honestly, instead of begging for Klonoa to come back it'd be better to beg Kirby to do what Klonoa is doing better instead of trying to revive redundant series with more limited gameplay mechanics. If they want to keep Klonoa alive they need a reason to want Klonoa over any other platformer, otherwise your money is better spent on something even more unique and fun.
@Bolt_Strike Okay, but quick point. B-N makes Klonoa, HAL makes Kirby. I don't see why HAL would decide to make Kirby into Klonoa, it's not like they have any attachment to that series? And it's not like the development of a Klonoa game would affect the development of a Kirby game in any way.
If Battlefield, COD, Medal of Honor, and who knows how many other FPSes can coincide, I think there's room for both Klonoa and Kirby.
@link3710 Competition. If HAL can steal whatever fanbase Klonoa has by doing what Klonoa does better, they get more sales and the fans get better games. And on the flip side, if Klonoa sees that a competitor is basically doing the same thing but better, they should be improving the game to make it more fun and unique, and therefore sell better.
Furthermore, Kirby and Klonoa are not just competing against each other, they just happen to be highly similar. There's also Mario, Yoshi, DK, Metroid, Sonic, Ratchet & Clank, LittleBigPlanet, Rayman, Ori, Shantae, and Yooka-Laylee among others. The genre is too crowded for them to bring back a poor man's Kirby.
@Dezzy I mean, ILLCA never made their own game before, and has only ever worked on other projects with other developers. This is the first time they've made something on their own, with the only guidance being one director from the original titles. Pokemon titles also sell no matter quality sadly, so it'll sell pretty big numbers, and could probably cannibalize Zelda due to brand recognizability. Either that, or Zelda would cannibalize the Diamond and Pearl remakes, causing Nintendo to also miss out.
"It is fate. Many have tried, yet none have ever managed to escape it's flow."
To be honest, I'm not sure anything would really affect a 3D Zelda at this point. Those games have become Nintendo's flagship series, alongside 3D Mario. I think people are gonna buy it no matter what. If you release them alongside Pokemon, all that will happen is Pokemon fans will just play Zelda 4 months later, but I think the people who are gonna buy it will do so either way.
I think BotW 2 was likely planned for this autumn or holidays but originally but probably got delayed to next year, anyway
Hopefully, they will be able to give at least a release window for that at E3, if so....
It’s best for Nintendo to start releasing a single game a year, that way they won’t have to worry about their games “cannibalising” each other. I blame the people who only ever buy a single game a year. ;p
@Dezzy I think it's too early to say that about 3D Zelda as a whole given BotW is in a league of its own regarding sales and the last 3D Zelda was BotW so we have no data to work with for 3D Zelda after BotW yet.
There's also that really awkward promotion of Skyward Sword HD to BotW fans in the February 2021 Direct which I'm not sure how to interpret. Is Skyward Sword story relevant to BotW 2? Is BotW 2 far away so trying to maintain franchise interest? Will BotW 2 be more of a mixture of BotW and traditional 3D Zelda?
I think unless Zelda and Pokemon release like a week apart....I doubt they will cannibalise each other's sales. As mentioned, different games for different audiences, etc., etc.. But they're both massive series which are guaranteed to sell well, and probably sell well far beyond their launch windows. I can see something like Pokemon launching in November, with BotW 2 launching in December.
My money is Pokemon DP ( lol I always think of something else when I see DP on this site) in Oct. Snap came out in April so plus 6 months is Oct for DP and then another 6 months for Legends in April 2022 to fit it’s early 2022 releases date.
With SMT5 coming out this year I’m a lot more curious how Nintendo will treat that, it’s not their release but it’s a high profile exclusive yet not a likely big seller. So will Nintendo avoid releasing a biggish title around the same time to help it’s sales or will they just say fudge it and let Link and Pikachu “eat“ it’s sales.
Smash released not even a month after Let's Go and they are respectively the 3rd and 8th best selling games on the platform.
This. If Smash and Let's Go can both successfully release a month apart, there's absolutely no reasons BDSP and BotW2 would have to worry about being too close. Pokemon and Zelda likely have even less overlap than Smash and Pokemon as well.
@Slowdive I don’t really think overlaps even matters, these are two of Nintendo’s biggest franchise so obviously a Nintendo fan are likely to have both. Like Nintendo released 3DS Mario and Mario Kart less than a month apart and weren’t worried about them not selling.
I really don’t see this as impossibility, a month or two apart during the holiday season where sales are strong already sounds like a good plan rather than a bad plan. You build momentum by releasing games, not by not selling games.
