One person who doesn't work at Retro anymore doesn't actually prove anything. I don't like the over-reliance on rumor posting, so you shouldn't post something with comparable lack of credibility (unless you think Skyward Sword magically took no effort to port, a port that has now been proven to exist after a long period of rumors).
If anything this will keep the rumors alive more, because its not hard to see people putting in the effort for it to happen. Whereas before, we had nothing but rumors that had largely gone quiet.
@VoidofLight You're very cynical, and I probably shouldn't even ask this question but... Who would you rather believe? A senior editor at Game Informer that said that the trilogy was finished as of late 2018, or a person who hasn't been active at Retro Studios before the Wii U was even released?
I’d go with whichever one is more consistent with the actual evidence. Update your priors based on new information, or lack thereof (no new information is in fact a form of information). You know, that Bayesian thing. The game having been done since 2018 yet not actually coming out is not reasonable. See also: Star Fox Grand Prix, Pokémon Stars.
Unless it's confirmed from Nintendo's mouth, I'm not buying anything these "leakers" say, no matter how credible they are. If they happen to be right, then alright, but I highly doubt they will. Just like everyone thought Star Fox Grand Prix or Pokemon Stars were real, when they weren't. The switch Pro is another instance like that, where people believe it's pretty much confirmed real, when it couldn't be more further from the truth.
And no, the research and development stuff from the other day doesn't mean the "Switch Pro" is releasing, it means that they're working on the next console which will probably replace the switch many years from now.

@Slowdive I mean, I would, since I like following this thread to talk about actual speculation not based on fake leaks, but here we are. Fake leaks being posted almost every day.

Funny you say that, since they literally released a Star Fox game that was unreleased for decades a few years ago. So there's literally proof of that being possible. I dunno if its true or not, but saying they got 2 wrong so they can't be right is stupid considering how many rumored games have been proven to be correct.
I'm not even saying it does exist, I just don't deny the distinct possibility when rumored games often do turn out to exist. Looking at logical trends such as "rumored games by the right sources are often true" is more logical than dismissing it outright just because they were presumably delayed along with the new game that's the main reason they would be ported in the first place. If anything the news makes it make sense that it would take a long time for it to actually come out.
This isn't video gaming, but I'd just like to point out a similar example that always amuses me. So at Wrestlemania 34, it had come out that after his match, the champion, Brock Lesnar threw the title belt at Vince Mcmahon, the owner of WWE. This was reported immediately and dismissed by a lot of people, constantly. It then literally showed up on a documentary about that year's Wrestlemania the following year, and everyone who had made fun of it had to eat crow.
@Slowdive Just because they got like 2 things right doesn't mean anything. It just means they probably guessed two things out of many other things they were guessing.

I think Prime Trilogy is inevitable provided Nintendo wants Prime 4 to stand any chance of success. There's a reason why franchises with a story that connects multiple games get ported to newer systems if they're not already playable via backwards compatibility, for the story of the new game to make sense to people didn't get to experience the previous games on their original systems.
Look at how poorly Mass Effect 3 did on Wii U with Mass Effect 1 and 2 being missing for example.

I agree and it should be released in a quiet period where people are thirsty for new Nintendo games so it doesn't get overshadowed.
Thankfully Nintendo's quiet smart at spreading out their releases these days... They don't do mad stuff like releasing two racing games (F-Zero GX and Kirby Air Ride) within two weeks of each other anymore!
@Euler that true, 2022 seens to be packed year just like 2021, i wonder when Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild 2 is gonna release, if Nintendo decided to release the game early 2022, considering Pokémon Legend Arceus release early 2022? maybe delay Pokémon Legend Arceus release to acomodate Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild 2 release for a possible early 2022 release?
@Clyde_Radcliffe I could see BotW 2 and Pokemon Legends Arceus release the same month though. BotW 2 misses holiday 2021 releasing in early 2022 and Pokemon Legends Arceus maintains its early 2022 release (TPC seems extremely rigid regarding the release of Pokemon games). No point in releasing big games in January so that leaves February and March, have BotW 2 line up with the 5th anniversary of the Switch meanwhile Pokemon Legends Arceus releases closer to the end of the month.
@Blooper987 Splatoon 3 I think will be May/June 2022 and it got revealed in February to make it clear why the Animal Crossing updates were smaller scale.
@kkslider5552000@Slowdive Star Fox 2 was the exception, not the rule. And most of 2020 was a quiet period (fewest first-party titles in over a decade). That they didn’t release it for two years is pretty strong evidence that the leakers were wrong when they said it was ready in 2019. Much like how they were wrong about Star Fox Grand Prix, Pokémon Stars, the Switch getting a Smash 4 port, Zelda missing the Switch launch date, and the Retro Studios mystery project.

Yeah I'm disregarding the comments about Prime Trilogy. I'm pretty confident they're doing it.
Even if it takes a bit of time and effort, the benefit of having that on the Switch is so massive ahead of Prime 4 releasing. It will have been about 15 years since Prime 3 came out by the time Prime 4 comes out. Some people won't even know what Prime is. Or Metroid more generally.
Prime Trilogy is a great way to get people up to speed ahead of time, especially given that they're 3 of the most critically acclaimed games Nintendo has ever made.
