@jump Ugh, I hope not. I mean, Odyssey is amazing, but DK already feels too much like Mario with DK dressing in general, DK could use its own gameplay identity instead of just copying what Mario did but with a jungle theme. Like, DK is a brute and bashes enemies, why not make the game more of a platformer/beat em up hybrid like God of War, Knack, or the Werehog from Sonic Unleashed? That would be really unique and Nintendo doesn't have any first party games like that. Like, think something like this with DK dressing
@jump Well execution wise no, but in terms of concept that level is a good foundation for what DK could be and I rather enjoyed the Werehog gameplay (it has no business being in a Sonic game, but by its own merits I thought the gameplay was pretty good). That level in particular also would really fit DK because it has a much better platforming/combat balance than most of the game (which is more combat focused sadly, and even here I'd probably say skew a bit more platforming than this) and has the level gimmicks with the collapsing ice platforms and grabbing the heat fan enemies to melt ice which feel exactly like what DK would do, not to mention the general gameplay which involves a ton of swinging and climbing. I can tell you didn't watch the video, I was watching it just for the hell of it after I posted and I refreshed the page and you had already responded. I would at least watch the video and see, yeah it's a Sonic game and doesn't have the best of execution but it's surprisingly close to DK and you could easily imagine swapping in DK assets like ropes, vines, barrels, etc. and it feeling like a solid proof of concept for a 3D DK game.
@Bolt_Strike a 3D Donkey Kong game with some beat up elements might work or not, this rumored Donkey Kong game not be another Donkey Kong 64, is a plus to everyone.
@DannyBoi@Balta666 Software sales are already way ahead. after 4 years the PS2 had sold 350m games, as of December (so 3 years and 9 months into the Switch life) it has sold 532m games. Admittedly, the eshop and indies (to a degree) weren't a thing on the PS2.
@MarioBrickLayer I am assuming @dannyboi was talking hardware sales as ps2 is the best selling console of all time. As you mention it is not fair to compare it software wise as people buy more games nowadays (also by those standards PS4 is the one to beat)
With the exception of last year (coivd) they have pretty much always done a mini/indie/showcase/special Direct in May even though E3 is coming. No one is expecting a proper full fat Direct until E3.
It depends on what Nintendo intends to show at E3. We could get a Partner Showcase in May or E3 could be the unofficial partner showcase if there isn't much first party stuff ready to be shown. But...we'll see.
Switch Physical Collection - 1,260 games (as of June 15th, 2024)

@DannyBoi in japan or worldwide?, japan yes, but worldwide depend if Nintendo keep the amazing suport of Switch, Switch might end with 120/135 milions consoles sold or more at the end of it lifecycle.
Most people don't know this for some reason, but one time a few years ago, Konami failed to show up then too. Except they never told anyone. They were supposed to have an early morning event, and then it just didn't happen, for no reason.
