Those rumors are old news (although they may be coming from a new source, IDK because I don't pay too much attention to them), there's a lot of rumors pointing towards 2D Metroid and there's been one or two before that have hinted at DK.
And really, it isn't too hard to say "I think a new game in X franchise will release this year". There's only so many possibilities for new entries in established series, that's not really a bold prediction.
@kkslider5552000 I remember hearing those guys who developed it were bought up by a European film studio, they did a few flicks like Midsommar and A Hijacking. It just seemed very odd as I can’t see them making games about European art house films although a sim game for Midsommar where you have to run a festival and do cultish stuff could actually be fun.
Lets say there is a Metroid game ready for release...do Nintendo announce it at E3 for release in August (Metroid anniversary) or do they wait until August and release it later in the year?
Mario Golf + Skyward Sword + Metroid would be a great June - August!!
It kind of pains me to know that Monster Hunter Stories 2 will be shafted by Skyward Sword HD the week after, especially when Skyward Sword HD is as low effort as it possibly could be...

@MarioBrickLayer Ninty don't seem to take the actual exact anniversary date seriously. Year of Luigi was spread over 2 years, Mario appeared and had games before Super Mario Bros so it's not 35 years, they missed Zelda's this year back in Feb etc. And all that is before them actually deciding to do something for Metroid's anniversary which they may not as it's not that common for Ninty to big up anniversaries as people seem to think it is.
It's possible Prime 4 was meant to be the "anniversary" game but with it being delayed they could have no plans at all now.
@Slowdive is this Donkey Kong game a 2D or 3D Donkey Kong game?if is a 3D Donkey Kong game i hope and expect Nintendo fix Donkey Kong 64 mistakes, a 2D Metroid game? i see so that is the rumored and higly antecipated 2D Metroid game that continues the Metroid Fusion history?
@Giancarlothomaz I doubt it would be fixing DK64 since it wouldn't be using it as a template. Different teams, DK64 isn't actually that beloved like Country was so no point in returning to it and if rumours are true of it being made by the Mario guys it would probably be more like Odyssey but just with Kong dressing.
@Slowdive i see, so Nintendo EPD(the Super Mario Odyssey development team is currently working on a 2D Donkey Kong game that is gonna conclude Retro Studios reboot Donkey Kong country that started in 2010? let hope and expect this 2D Metroid game is a sequel to Metroid Fusion.
As far as I know it is not clear yet wether the new DK game will be 2D or 3D. But then again it's all just a rumor and it could be completely false. Let's hope we'll get some great announcements at E3.
@MarioBrickLayer Yeah they did, they made the New Super Mario games.
I predict it will be going back to it's roots. DK is out for revenge on Mario for treating him badly so the goal it to kidnap Peach and murder all of the Toads, Luigi and Pauline so DK can laugh at Mario's sadness as he grieves his loss.
@jump Ugh, I hope not. I mean, Odyssey is amazing, but DK already feels too much like Mario with DK dressing in general, DK could use its own gameplay identity instead of just copying what Mario did but with a jungle theme. Like, DK is a brute and bashes enemies, why not make the game more of a platformer/beat em up hybrid like God of War, Knack, or the Werehog from Sonic Unleashed? That would be really unique and Nintendo doesn't have any first party games like that. Like, think something like this with DK dressing
@jump Well execution wise no, but in terms of concept that level is a good foundation for what DK could be and I rather enjoyed the Werehog gameplay (it has no business being in a Sonic game, but by its own merits I thought the gameplay was pretty good). That level in particular also would really fit DK because it has a much better platforming/combat balance than most of the game (which is more combat focused sadly, and even here I'd probably say skew a bit more platforming than this) and has the level gimmicks with the collapsing ice platforms and grabbing the heat fan enemies to melt ice which feel exactly like what DK would do, not to mention the general gameplay which involves a ton of swinging and climbing. I can tell you didn't watch the video, I was watching it just for the hell of it after I posted and I refreshed the page and you had already responded. I would at least watch the video and see, yeah it's a Sonic game and doesn't have the best of execution but it's surprisingly close to DK and you could easily imagine swapping in DK assets like ropes, vines, barrels, etc. and it feeling like a solid proof of concept for a 3D DK game.
