@link3710 I don't have a Wii or Wii u. Unfortunately not everyone holds onto older and aging consoles.

you can grab a Wii for dirt cheap though . I bought one in 2019 for 30£ with one controller and Wii sports

@DannyBoi if you have a gamecube then use that to rip your games too

We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.

@Balta666 right. What dvd drives can do it? Specialist or otherwise.

Destiny, justice and retribrution will be mine.

VoidofLight

@DannyBoi Doubt it. Labo's official website got pulled down, so there's probably nothing left coming of it. Not to mention, they haven't dropped a kit in a years time.. so it's pretty much completely dead at this point.

I hope Earthbound is added to the SNES app. And Chrono trigger too.

Destiny, justice and retribrution will be mine.

@Slowdive Bizarre, Nintendo hasn't made an internally developed DK since the arcade days other than DK '94 as far as I recall. Rare (Country, Land, Racing), Retro (Returns), Paon (King of Swing, Jungle Climber), and Namco (Konga) all have handled it in the years since. I wonder why Nintendo might have actually brought the IP in-house finally.

It's like Yoshi (Artoon, Arzest, Good Feel) or Star Fox (Namco, Q-Games, Rare, PlatinumGames, Argonaut Games) but even those have more in-house titles.

Earthbound probably will eventually, I can't imagine Chrono Trigger will. I've never looked into why too much, but apparently its a bit more difficult to put out Chrono Trigger re-releases than their other games. And plus, SE really wants people to pay for their old games. Like right now its 15 bucks on Steam, when SNES games in the Wii era were 8.

There's only two known that I'm aware of, and you need to be sure they have the right firmware installed. If it's been patched it won't read.

Yeah, it's not really worth it. Doing a quick search I found one of those drives in an enclosure for $115AU + $35AU shipping. On the Australian equivalent of Craigslist there's a used Wii with 2x controllers, all the cables, and 9 games for $90AU.

@Slowdive
I heard this rumor now multiple times. Supposedly the Mario Odyssey team is working on the game, which would be great and disappointing at the same time, since I’d love to see an Odyssey 2.
The hidden DK area at Super Nintendo World also hints at something DK related coming this year.

Something's happening, Nintendo just removed the last year of NSO news articles from the Switch news section. The most recent news article present now is the February 2020 batch which means these were removed:

  • May 2020 (the batch that contained Panel de Pon)
  • July 2020 (the batch that contained DKC1)
  • September 2020 (the batch that contained DKC2)
  • December 2020 (the batch that contained DKC3)
  • February 2021 (the batch that contained Prehistorik Man)

The games are still in the apps but it's really odd that the news articles were removed.

@TheJGG Yeah, Arzest made both the reviled Hey Pikmin! and Yoshi's New Island. Plus the original streetpass minigames I think?

Why did they make that decision after Retro had made 2 really good Donkey Kong games? Tropical Freeze is the best game in the series, in my opinion.

It's dangerous to go alone! Stay at home.

I would like the 3d Mario team to make a 3d donkey kong game.
@Dezzy Yeah, doesn't make much sense. Then again, can we still call Retro a developer with such an absence of games output.

Have there been devs in the past with this long of a break from releasing games? Honest question, I would like to know.

@Grumblevolcano I'll have to have a look. Which news channel is it on? And maybe, right, maybe it means... They are replacing Nintendo switch online with... Nintendo clown online service. THAT'S WHAT THE RED NSO BUTTON ON THE SWITCH IS! IT'S NOT A SJORTCUT TO NSO, IT'S A CLOWN NOSE!

Destiny, justice and retribrution will be mine.

@Slowdive André Restart made a video stating that the Super Mario Odyssey team was developing a 2D/3D Donkey Kong game, possibly to release in celebration of Donkey Kong 40th anniversary, @GrumbleVolcano could this removal of Switch Online news be related to the rumored Switch Online overhaul?, @Spanjard theres a rumor the 3D Mario development team is currently working in a 3D Donkey Kong game since 2017, You Tuber André Restart made a video about this rumor.

Honestly. 3D DK sounds amazing. Donkey Kong 64 may have had it's issues, but there's a reason people remember it so fondly. DK and the crew remain super fun to play in 3D.
