@dionysos283 Sure but those games I mentioned are retail releases and then you will need to add 2021 Nintendo published digital games like A-Train.

@DannyBoi Express articles are so clickbaity so it’s far from a credible source.

Currently playing:
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
Persona 4 Golden
Dragon Quest XI S
F1 23
Xenoblade Chronicles 2

@DannyBoi that would explain:-
1. Why the 3D Mario collection is no longer available
2. Why the Zelda anniversary collection is a rumoured twin pack (WW + TP) rather than triple pack - the N64 games are coming to this service
3. How they plan to release Galaxy 2

I must admit its probably just a lie, but the guy it mentions is quiet reputable. @TheJGG

Destiny, justice and retribrution will be mine.

Fortunately we won't have to wait too long to see wether the rumor is credible. It says the NSO overhaul will happen in April. So let's wait and see.

@jump I was looking in terms of quantity of releases and announcement, but even sales wise, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury and Pokemon Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl should be good for 10+ million each, and if BotW2 releases this year, that should be enough to equal Animal Crossing's sales.

@Grumblevolcano They didn't announce a single new first party game in that Direct Mini, whereas the February Direct actually announced new games like Mario Golf: Super Rush and Splatoon 3. If you like third party games, maybe, but I didn't, and the argument was specifically about Nintendo. In terms of Nintendo games it isn't even a contest.

@dionysos283 I did forget a few of those, but Dr. Kawashima's Brain Training and Tokyo Mirage Sessions released in January and predated the pandemic, so they don't really say anything about how the pandemic affected their release/announcement schedule. You might also be able to argue the same for Animal Crossing since it released a month in and most of the work was probably done by then.

Furthermore, if you look at what had been announced by this time last year we only knew about Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition and Clubhouse Games, whereas right now we know about New Pokemon Snap, Mario Golf Super Rush, Skyward Sword HD, Pokemon Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl, and we know that Pokemon Legends Arceus and Splatoon 3 are coming next year. There's definitely more in terms of quantity and quality this year, which tells me the same will be true for E3 vs. the games that released in the second half of 2020. Paper Mario: The Origami King, Super Mario 3D All Stars, Pikmin 3 Deluxe, and Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity vs. Mario Golf Super Rush, Skyward Sword HD, Pokemon Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl? The latter is already about as good, if not better without knowing what those 3 games are.

@Bolt_Strike
I'm still not convinced that 2021 is already better than 2020 in terms of new first party Nintendo games (which was the only point of my argument). It very well might turn out this way, but we'll have to wait until the E3 presentation.

@dionysos283 early/mid or late april for the Switch Online revamp? and @Bolt_Strike there still some games for Nintendo they must have delayed because of the pandemic like Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild 2 and the rumored and higly antecipated 2D Metroid game that continues the Metroid Fusion history.

I'm just gonna point out the obvious, you can't delay the release date of a game that has no release date...

2020:

  • Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE
  • Brain Training (EU only)
  • Pokemon Mystery Dungeon DX
  • Animal Crossing: New Horizons
  • Xenoblade Chronicles: DE
  • Clubhouse Games
  • Paper Mario: the Origami King
  • Super Mario 3D All-Stars
  • Pikmin 3 Deluxe
  • Mario Kart: Home Circuit
  • Hyrule Warriors: AoC
  • Fitness Boxing 2

2021 (so far):

  • Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury
  • New Pokemon Snap
  • Famicom Detective Club duo
  • Miitopia HD
  • DC Super Hero Girls
  • Mario Golf: Super Rush
  • Skyward Sword HD
  • Pokemon BD/SP

Yeah, 2021 will probably win out over 2020 in the end once we get a few more things (and arguably already has if you take into account 3rd party console exclusives like the two Monster Hunter games, Bravely Default II, & No More Heroes III).

Currently Playing:
Switch - Blade Strangers
PS4 - Kingdom Hearts III, Tetris Effect (VR)

@RR529
If you add 3rd party exclusives then I agree with you that 2021already looks better than 2020.

I don't think BOTW 2 got delayed. You can't delay a game that never had a release date to begin with frankly. Metroid Prime 4 seems like it's in development hell.

Bolt_Strike

@Giancarlothomaz I think most of the delays were from 2020 to 2021. Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury seems like it was supposed to be part of Mario's 35th anniversary. BotW2 could've been meant for a 2020 release as well but got pushed to 2021. New Pokemon Snap was revealed almost a year before its release so maybe that was meant to be 2020 as well?

At any rate, I strongly suspect that there will be a massive blowout of games this year and next year. There's so many development teams that haven't shown anything recently, so those teams should have something new to show soon. I think the next 2 years look something like this:

2021:
Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury
New Pokemon Snap
Mario Golf: Super Rush
Skyward Sword HD
Metroid 5
Bayonetta 3
Pokemon Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl
Donkey Kong Country 6
Mario Kart 9
BotW2

2022:
Pokemon Legends Arceus
3D Kirby
Captain Toad 2?
Oracle of Seasons/Ages remakes?
something Fire Emblem
Metroid Prime Trilogy HD
Metroid Prime 4?
Splatoon 3
Super Mario Odyssey 2

@Bolt_Strike I actually doubt BOTW 2 is coming out this year. It's too late in the year for them to just show gameplay then announce it's coming later. They'll probably make it a 2022 game.. Not to mention the 2022 predictions you have seem.. highly unrealistic.

I think the next 2 years will be something like:

2021

  • Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury
  • New Pokemon Snap
  • Famicom Detective Club
  • Miitopia
  • DC Super Hero Girls
  • Mario Golf Super Rush
  • Skyward Sword HD
  • Metroid Prime Trilogy
  • Wind Waker HD
  • Twilight Princess HD
  • Fire Emblem Remake (Genealogy of the Holy War or Binding Blade)
  • Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl
  • Xenoblade Chronicles X

2022

  • Yoshi's Woolly World
  • Pokemon Legends Arceus
  • BotW 2
  • Next mainline Kirby game
  • Splatoon 3
  • WarioWare
  • Oracle of Ages/Seasons in the style of Link's Awakening (2019)
  • Ever Oasis
  • Samus Returns
  • Bayonetta 3
  • Next mainline 3D Mario
  • Monolith Soft Medieval ARPG

Add in Mario Kart Ultimate for 2022 if the new Switch revision is the significant upgrade that's rumoured to blur Nintendo generations. If it's just a small upgrade like New 3DS then no sign of Mario Kart until Switch successor.

If you put in Nintendo published too there's also Bravely Default II for 2021 and Project Triangle Strategy for 2022.

@VoidofLight BotW2 can easily be revealed at E3 and release for the holiday. Nintendo reveals games like that all of the time, and since we already know the gameplay for the most part, they mainly just need to focus on what's changed with the gameplay and story.

As for 2022, many of the teams I predict will release those games haven't released anything in 4+ years, usually you see them release their next game 3 years after the last, add 1 year because of the pandemic and many of those IPs should be due for new entries. The 3D Mario team hasn't done anything since Odyssey besides a quick 3D World port, so 2022 sounds right for Odyssey 2. The Mario Kart/ARMS team hasn't released anything since 2017, so they should have a new game ready any day now, and between Mario Kart 9 and ARMS 2, Mario Kart 9 would sell FAR more than ARMS2, so we should expect a new Mario Kart of some sorts soon. Fire Emblem releases almost every year (it doesn't deserve to, it doesn't sell nearly as much as other games that release that frequently, but it does), so we'll have at least 1 this year or next year. Kirby hasn't had any main series game since 2018, the longest drought in series history, and HAL has been hyping up the next game, which everyone expects to be a 3D game. And since 2022 is Kirby's 30th anniversary, 2022 makes perfect sense for such an entry. Metroid Prime 4 should be ready by 2022/2023, so they'll want to release Prime Trilogy several months before in order to give new fans time to work through the Prime Trilogy. So 2022 seems about right. We had Link's Awakening in 2019, and 2D Zeldas tend not to take too long if they reuse the same engine (we got Triforce Heroes 2 years after ALBW), so there's a chance that an Oracles remake using Link's Awakening's engine could come soon. Then DK hasn't had anything since 2018 (and nothing new since 2014) and it has an anniversary this year, so it's been rumored and expected to have a new game this year (I forgot about the anniversary, so I moved it back to 2021). With the exception of some of those question marks in 2022 (most of which I think will happen in 2023), I fully expect every single one of those games to release either this year or next year. The teams that filled out that packed 2017 year and maybe even a few from 2018/2019 which were almost as packed should be ready for new entries, so the next few years should be packed as well. So I don't see that as being unrealistic at all.

@Grumblevolcano I don't think they'll release Prime Trilogy more than 1 year before Prime 4. That seems to be the reason we don't have it already, it's already supposedly done and they're holding off on it because of Prime 4's development issues. So if you don't think Prime 4 will come in 2022, the earliest we'll probably see Prime Trilogy is 2022. I also highly doubt that it's taking MercurySteam 4 years to port Samus Returns. They're probably working on either a completely new entry or a new remake like Super or Fusion.

And regardless of whether or not the Switch Pro blurs console generations, a Mario Kart game of some kind is coming. They reliably release Mario Kart games every 3 years (again, because of the pandemic they probably lost a year), and every new release further and further debunks the "one Mario Kart per console" argument. We've gotten a second Mario Kart game with Home Circuit. We're getting Splatoon 3 when we already have Splatoon 2, so clearly being a multiplayer game doesn't stop them. And they don't care how much an old game is still selling because a new game will inevitably sell more, for as much as 8 Deluxe is still selling, 9 would outsell it since it's a new game that's aggressively advertised and fresh in people's minds. And they would've started on the game shortly after 8 Deluxe since dev teams don't just sit down and twiddle their thumbs after the next game would release, and what game would they have started on after 8 Deluxe? Of course it would be the sequel to the game that sold tens of millions of copies.

EDIT: Also, I don't think we're getting an Ever Oasis game of any kind, not a port or a sequel. The game flopped, VGChartz estimates it only sold 290,000, which is not nearly enough for them to want to come back to that IP.

@Grumblevolcano As much as I'd love a new WarioWare, usually the games come really early in the console's life, or at the end of the console's lifespan.
