I don’t think many indies or third party games will be in the direct, but who knows.

Ninty have upped their games sales forecast by 50m so i'm expecting at least a couple of biggie titles. BOTW2 seems the most likely and as cool as Bayonetta 3 would be it's not that big so for the other I'm guessing some family fluff like Mario Party.

There's always the (small) chance that Detective Pikachu 2 and Pikmin 4 finally pop up too.

There is another possibility/possibilities behind the game sales projections - they might be intending to release a budget priced Switch (in one fashion or another). Such a device could sell millions and every other unit would ship a copy of Mario Kart 8 and 2-3 other games (as in already released games).

Also - a "Players Choice" series is definitely something I expect to eventually see on Switch. Again this is something that could push games sales to new heights without necessarily involving any new games at all.

That all said - I expect Bayonetta 3 to be shown this summer and I think it's the most likely "big new exclusive" to actually launch this year. It's not a 10 million selling game but it will dominate the conversation and grab a disproportionate amount of attention from the games media and the "fanbase" (which is kind of the point of games like Bayonetta anyway).

@link3710 I sincerely doubt Botw 2 will come out in 2021, especially when Pokemon’s the November title. It’s just too late for them to hype the game up like botw, if it releases the holiday of this year.

@StuTwo I was expecting them to do a Players Choice or whatever last year, if their new games in development were slowed down due to lockdown then a budget range of already released games would be a good way to compensate on their schedules, especially if they focussed on games like Splatoon 2 which would encourage people to subscribe online. I don't think a forecast driver for that huge of a sales bump would be budget games though even for evergreen Ninty games.

Doesn’t the player choice stuff come at the end of the system, or near the end?

@VoidofLight They've released Pokemon and Smash 3 weeks apart in time for Xmas and have release multiple games in the same month before too. They way you keep talking about this game is too close to that game makes it sound like Ninty should only release a single game a year to make sure it sells. ;p

Well, it's certainly quite possible BotW 2 was originally planned for the end of this year but got delayed a bit into next .... It's also not so unlikely it was always planned for next year, anyway! Hopefully, early, so that if it got put back by pandemic, it'd still be summer/autumn

@jump No, I mean they won't release two big games in November. They've always had one first party release a month. Also, for my BOTW argument, the reason why I think BOTW 2 won't release until next year is because Skyward Sword HD. Two Zeldas don't release in the same year usually.

@VoidofLight

Something doesn't have to released in Nov to be the "holiday" title, Smash was in Dec, Mario Odyssey was in Oct etc

They have released multiple Zelda games in the same year before like WW and ALBW, MM and Tri Force Heroes etc.

@jump The thing is though, Wind Waker was a Remake and A Link Between Worlds was a 2D Zelda. Majoras Mask was a remake, with Tri Force Heroes being a 2D Zelda. It's not uncommon for them to release 2D and 3D Zeldas in the same year, since they don't really compete or offer up the same type of experience. It'd be highly uncommon for Skyward Sword HD to come the same year as BOTW 2, as they're both 3D Zelda games, regardless if Skyward Sword HD is a remaster or not.

I think the intention will be BotW 2 and other games that are created with new Switch revision in mind alongside the new Switch revision in November 2021 but COVID pushes both back to March 2022 and ports will fill the gap left this holiday. E3 2021 still ends up being reveal of the new Switch revision though to keep Switch momentum going.

So possible SSHD AND a 2d zelda is what we're saying here? Count me in.

I don't think BOTW 2 was created with the switch revision in mind. It was probably created with the current one in mind. I'm actually hoping it wasn't made for the switch revision in mind, since I don't want to have to buy yet another switch unit to enjoy the game it was meant to be played.

@VoidofLight They have released 2D Zelda the same year before like Minish Cap and Four Swords or 3D All Stars and 3D World if you want a super specifc example but it's Ninty, if they churn out games at a faster rate they would rather than it being a marketing strategy.

@NintendoByNature Honestly, I really wouldn't mind if that ended up being the case. We haven't had a brand new 2D Zelda game in a while.

@jump 3D world and 3D All-Stars didn't even come out the same year. Minish Cap and Four Swords makes a bit of sense, seeing as one's a multiplayer Zelda reusing assets, and the other is a single player game.

@VoidofLight The same financial year and it's odd to use the basis as of a calendar rather than the time between them or are you saying it's okay for Zelda game to be released on 31/12/21 and the next one on 01/01/2022? ;p

@jump My point isn't that it won't release in the same Financial year. My point is that BOTW 2 isn't coming in the same calendar year. If it releases, It'll probably be early 2022 like the first BOTW, assuming it's even going to release any time soon.

@VoidofLight Funnily enough the orginal release of Skyward Sword was the same year as Ocarina of Time 3D ;p

There's no reason why Ninty can't release two big holidays titles one of which may or may not BOTW2 as history has shown otherwise.
