Assuming BotW 2, Bayo 3, and MP 4 are all 2022 or later releases...
Assuming you're right, is 2021 a good year without a major release? Lets also assume we get between 2 and 4 additional unannounced Zelda ports plus one more B or C tier game (another sports title or Mario Party etc) what else do they need to do for this to more than a good/average year?
Assuming you're right, is 2021 a good year without a major release?
Eh, I'm the wrong person to be asked that question. I'm a platform-agnostic core gamer. I bought the Switch primarily because I believe it's the best third party port / indie machine on the market. In my eyes, every year has been a great year to own a Switch, regardless of what Nintendo has offered first party wise.
In actuality, I could argue that the Switch's first party games (since launch and up until now) are the worst offerings for any Nintendo platform in the company's history. BotW especially...is my least favorite Zelda game I've played in the series. But that's my personal bias. It's a different discussion for a different thread.

@Magician problaby most of this games is gonna release in 2022(exceptMetroid Prime 4, since Retro Studios still have a lot of major jobs listings that need to fill up like Boss designer and many more, Retro Studios just hired a writer for Metroid Prime 4)
@MarioBrickLayer Nintendo have a major game for 2021(the remake of Diamond e Pearl that is problaby releasing this holiday season).
The diamond and pearl remakes are for sure releasing in November of this year. Zelda BOTW 2 will probably be a title releasing in 2022, or maybe even 2023.

@Slowdive Honestly, we were promised news later this year in the last direct, so I'd see no better time than e3.. unless they want to focus on Skyward Sword until that's released, which means we might have to wait a bit longer.

Honestly, I'm usually the more pessimistic one around here, but there's definitely more coming.
Kirby Spin-off: 2nd half 2021, probably September
Kirby Main Series: Early 2022, anniversary game, probably a collection around then too.
Monolith Soft: It's about time for the Medieval ARPG (we're already in year 4 of development), so I'd wager that's December.
Pokemon of course is in November.
Bayo 3 is likely aiming for late 2021, early 2022.
ND Cube proooobably has another Mario Party this year, if not then early to mid next year. They seem to usually have two games in development at any given time.
Int Systems probably has another Fire Emblem in the Three Houses engine nearing completion as well, plus a Pushmo sized title seems likely soon.
Basically... 2021 will likely have a packed 2nd half, per usual, and there's enough left over for 2022 to also look to keep up the speed, especially since we already know three major titles.
@Slowdive Honestly, I think they'd do a trailer showcasing amiibo stuff, as well as stuff for people who don't know what Skyward Sword is, as they're trying to sell it to the new people who jumped onto the series with BOTW.

I believe the census is that BotW 2 will be the key game to promote the Switch revision early next year. When Nintendo is ready to roll out five to ten million units of the new Switch iteration then Nintendo will begin the marketing campaign for BotW 2. January...maybe? Who knows. shrugg
Shortages of available parts to build consoles is kneecapping the ability to meet demand for everyone in the industry. Sony, MS, Nintendo, PC...you name it.

@VoidofLight The name Zelda has always been strong brand, it sold millions long before BOTW so I don't think they will be terribly worried about people being confused over SS and BOTW.
@jump It's not that people will be confused, but moreso that BOTW 2 would probably overshadow Skyward Sword HD, causing people to save their money for the other game that looks better.

@Magician That's if a Switch revision happens any time soon. It's still just baseless rumors until the system's actually confirmed. Even the update that seemingly "hints" towards it could be nothing of note.
"It is fate. Many have tried, yet none have ever managed to escape it's flow."
@jump They announced them years apart, and didn't show gameplay for the BOTW sequel. The moment they were to show gameplay, then it would overshadow Skyward Sword HD.

Fair enough, but how many times did Nintendo delay the Wii U release of BotW before it became the flagship game for Switch?

@Magician The case for that was entirely different. It just happened that the game itself needed to be delayed, and once it was ready to launch, they decided to hold on to it for the Switch. BOTW 2 hasn't even been delayed once, since delaying would imply that they gave it a solid release window, or release year, then changed it. Plus, if there is a switch revision, it wouldn't be like a brand new console launch. It would just be like how the New 3Ds launched.
