Indie-wise we don't know much for this year so far. And even some previously announced Indie games don't have concrete release dates yet. So an Indie World in March would make all the sense in the world.
Anyone sniffing an Indie/Partner showcase this week?
The fact there's a firmware update supposedly incoming almost deconfirms it, because they don't tend to coincide much, that I'm aware of, but it just feels a bit like there should be one, to distract from the Switch hardware gossip.
@gcunit I hope so but I don't think Ninty are savvy enough to manage gossip like that and I don't think indie games would be enough of a distraction from new hardware talk.
@jump I've just edited my post because it was meant to say 'deconfirms', not 'reconfirms'.
I reckon Nintendo probably has some idea that certain hardware developments will inevitably hit the gossip fan, but it's more me wanting the distraction really - feels like we don't get as many nindie directs as we used to. But I guess covid and Jan/Feb quiet time explain that currently.
But I dunno, it just feels like spring is in the air and there should be some nindies ready to ride that uplift...
You guys had me at blood and semen.
What better way to celebrate than firing something out of the pipe?
Switch Physical Collection - 1,260 games (as of June 15th, 2024)

@gcunit The months for Indie World have been March, August and December (December was a more recent thing). The March one would coincide with GDC and PAX East meanwhile the August one would coincide with Gamescom and PAX West. The concept of announce stuff followed by playing those games at an event.
While the events were cancelled for 2020 and 2021, the timing of the Indie World presentation stayed the same so I'd guess the next Indie World would be either next week or the week after. Could see a Partner Showcase for Thursday though as the 3rd party announcements for the February general Direct felt off compared to traditional general Direct 3rd party announcements.
@gcunit
I was thinking Coral Island (Harvest Moon style indie game from Indonesia) and Re:Legend (Rune Factory + Pokemon style indie game from Malaysia).
Nobody ever talked about those games but me. Nobody but me.
I heard about system update 11.4 being uploaded to the server. Don't they usually add updates to the server a day before it drops? In any case, tuesday is when they usually drop, so a week until it drops.
Next one probably isn't until E3 (or at least the next dedicated one, we might get a Zelda 35th Anniversary Direct before then). There's been several games that are rumored from multiple sources that I expect to be announced there:
-Full reveal on BotW2 including name, release date, and full gameplay. This is absolutely the headliner, especially with Aonuma confirming we'll be getting news later this year.
-A new AAA Mario Kart game of some kind is revealed. Mario Kart 9, Nintendo Kart, Mario Kart World, some type of new and original $60 Mario Kart game for Switch is happening.
-A 2D Metroid game of some sorts by MercurySteam is revealed (I'm guessing Metroid 5, but it could be another remake or a Samus Returns port). This has been rumored by multiple sources, is probably real.
-Metroid Prime 4 also gets another teaser trailer, but no details or gameplay shown, essentially putting us right back where we were in 2017. We'll probably see more details on this in 2022, with a 2022/2023 release date.
-A new trailer for Pokemon Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl, revealing some early details such as new forms for the starters or Dialga/Palkia.
-Pokemon Legends Arceus also gets a new trailer revealing details on the battle system and the Poke Ride/field move mechanic shown in leaks.
-Bayonetta 3 finally gets a full reveal.
-New Smash DLC fighter (duh)
I also think there's an outside chance of the following, but I'm less certain of these (several of these might be more likely in 2022):
-Super Mario Odyssey 2
-A 3D Kirby game
-A new Donkey Kong Country game (if Retro's making Prime 4, who's making this?)
-Metroid Prime Trilogy
-Captain Toad 2
-WarioWare
And if we do get a Zelda Direct, here's what I expect to be shown there:
-Reveal of some sort of 3D Zelda collection like Super Mario 3D All Stars
-More details on BotW2, if already revealed
-More details on Skyward Sword HD
-Details on Age of Calamity DLC
@TheJGG Well to be clear, I don't think every single game on that "outside chance" list is going to show up, that's probably more your E3 2022 lineup, but maybe 1 of them could be announced early. That top bunch of games is more likely. If I am right it'd still be one of the better E3s though, but at the same time we're kind of due for a good E3 because of 2020 being so dry and several of the studios working on that fantastic 2017 lineup should be ready to reveal their next projects.
@Bolt_Strike I think it all comes down to when Nintendo will announce the new Switch revision. If they announce in January 2022 for launch in March 2022, I'd guess a June Direct would be Smash focused like E3 2018. Announcing both fighters (release windows being 1 in summer, 1 in fall) and I think Nintendo will make a big deal about the end of Smash Ultimate if Fighters Pass 2 is the end given that game has been the main source of Nintendo hype over the past 3 years, if you take out the Smash content most of the general Directs from E3 2018 onwards fall apart.
@Grumblevolcano Smash fans are rabid dogs. I, being the sadist I am, love looking at the live chat to see what these people get up in the three days before the stream. And then I'll look on Twitter to see what those ungrateful bipolars have to say about it. Everyone asked for Minecraft Steve for years and when it was finally revealed the same people turned around and said, "who cares lmao give us geno, monster hunter and crash,"

@TheJGG What's the saying, tarred with the same brush. Those aren't the same fans asking for Steve and complaining about getting Steve. I never asked for Steve in Smash nor am I fussed he got in it and I'm sure I said something along the lines of I wished it was someone else at the time.
Smash sells better than most other Ninty games and like all of Ninty's top tier stuff people are divise over them like BOTW isn't a Zelda game, Super Mario 3D World is boring, Pokemon Sw/Sh is unfished/Dexgate etc despite on the whole the games doing well and being received well.
@Bolt_Strike That would be an amazing direct! I saw a discussion on youtube about the Zelda Direct (maybe the Spawn Cast or something) and they were speculating that we might not see it until after Skyward Sword has gone on sale if Nintendo want to protect sales, rather than letting customer possibly choose between that and a WW/TP double pack.
I think BOTW 2 will be part of the Zelda Direct OR a Switch Pro announcement if the new model is launching on the same day as BOTW2. I think the same goes for Mario Kart 9.
@Grumblevolcano I don't think they really need to wait for the Switch Pro to announce those games because they'll still probably be playable on any Switch, they'll just run better. But speaking of the Switch Pro, I do think it'll be announced at E3 as well.
And no way E3 is focusing on DLC for a 3 year old game, that's not headliner material. It's going to be BotW2, there's nothing else it could be. If it's going to be announced this year, E3 is the place to do it, and there's nothing bigger they could focus on. You're kidding yourself if you think they're focusing on anything else.
@Bolt_Strike That's a very valid point. Only hitch is that E3 could be cancelled, of course but I honestly don't know. E3 was cancelled last year because of a lack of preparedness for the pandemic so I'd expect they'd go ahead this year fully functional.
