@BabyYoda71 yeah. I believe so it seems to be lining with that way. Small possibility for a Q4 holiday this year release. I’m not banking on it. What I can say pretty confidently is BOTW2 will be launching with the new hardware. The reason we are seeing fuller games which I expect to continue. They will launch the new hardware with killer ip’s. They know the switch was a success because it launch with BOTW and Odyssey. They will look to repeat that but on an even bigger scale. I believe switch pro,2, super or whatever it’s called will launch in 2022. It will also have an even bigger launch than the original switch.

I hope Nintendo doesn't end up making some of these games exclusive to the new hardware. They did this with one of the 3DS upgrades and that was disappointing. I have no plans to buy any Switch revisions. I have not bought a system revision since the GBA SP.

@Qwertyninty I think Splatoon 3 and Switch’s pro will be advertised together

Heigh Ho Heigh Ho. It’s off to work (from home) I go.

Qwertyninty

@BabyYoda71 possibly. The point I’m making is all the “big” upcoming games are for switch pro. They will be available on both but mainly there to push switch pro sales. BOTW2, prime 4, Pikmin 4, bayo 3, splatoon 3 and unknowns. Things about that lineup in year one of switch pro plus some (hopefully) major 3rd parties games like GTA, COD, etc. You have a bonafide hit that could make having a next gen console from the other manufacturers irrelevant. I hope Nintendo fixes current issues and the architecture and clock speeds are future proof.

@Harmonie

First party games are often tuned to the lowest-spec console that platform holder provides. Although there were a few third party games exclusive to the New 3DS (Fire Emblem Warriors, Binding of Isaac, Runbow, etc), Xenoblade Chronicles on 3DS was an aberration. A one-off, halfhearted attempt by Nintendo to convince to Nintendo loyalists to repurchase a 3DS yet again.

I'd like to believe Nintendo views that as a failed experiment, and isn't considering developing New Super Switch Pro U exclusive games.

Just to add to the keeping it to the lowest specs point, with the 2DS coming out Ninty actually removed some features from upcoming games that would have used 3D like some of the puzzles in A Link Between Worlds to widen the net of customers who only had a 2DS.

@Qwertyninty Yeah I agree. You know how BotW was the big Switch launch title and then Odyssey came a few months later? I think Splatoon 3 will be a launch title and BotW2 will be a bit later. What I don’t understand about the Switch Pro is, why would they release it in 2022? They just said the Switch was halfway into it’s life cycle. Why would Nintendo make a new console where all the games on it you can also play on their last console? Why wouldn’t they make it like the 3DS or Wii U?

Odyssey came out 7 months after the Switch. Whilst BOTW and Odyssey (plus Mario Kart & Splatoon which came out a lot closer to the Switch's launch than Odyssey did) are killer games I think not enough credit is being given to the Switch's concept which sold itself.

What if Nintendo goes the "iPhone way" and introduces a better model, and only slowly (within 2-3 years) development of new software shifts towards the newer model.

@BabyYoda71 well you can’t take everything they say at face value. They aren’t going to give hints or do anything to stop people from buying the switch right now. They could be announcing it weeks from now and say the same thing. They are in a tough spot. The switch is seeking like hot cakes. They have to roll out the new switch perfectly. It will either be holiday tia year with heavy hitters or early (March) next year. I saw release the new one drop the price of the original and you still will be selling like hot cakes.

Huge backlash against that direct and rightly so.

Simply not good enough from Nintendo.

It’s Nintendo’s ever-disappointed dad. Hello Nintendo’s dad!

If older games are patched to run better on a new Switch, I'd probably get it. Imagine Xenoblade 2 running at native 720p in handheld mode!

Currently Playing: Yakuza Kiwami 2 (PC); Unicorn Overlord (NS)

@Maxz Well, to be fair, with last year being pretty sparse with a few good (not amazing) titles sprinkled throughout from Nintendo (one of them being a game that was delayed and originally intended to release the year prior), I think people have been waiting for something exciting and amazing from them like Xenoblade Chronicles, BotW or Super Mario Odyssey. We hadn't had a direct for a whole year, so it's just natural to expect a few heavy hitters, considering the prior context.

Of course, we did get a Splatoon 3 announcement, which would be amazing... if Splatoon 2 wasn't still so recent. I don't think they did a good job of showing why exactly we needed a new one so soon, but I'm sure they have something planned. Even then, that isn't coming out until next year, so understandably it calls into question what, if any, extremely notable titles we have coming this year. We have some good looking ones from Square for sure, and then there's Monster Hunter Rise, but we've known about that. I would say Skyward Sword HD is the highlight for me (aside from Triangle Strategy), but I am slightly disappointed that they didn't go the WWHD route and add in some advanced lighting settings to give it a new and updated feel. I also think that some changes to the tutorial parts to make them faster and mitigating hints from Fi would help the game out a bunch, so if they had done those things they probably just should've said something about them. A lot more people would have been more excited if that were the case.

@Maxz bizarre comment.

Universally agreed as being a very poor presentation.

Not good enough

@Punisher67 No it isn't lol. No one has actual survey data on the general consensus of what people thought about the direct. The most I've heard is that it was alright, good-ish, and whelming.

@-Juice- I agree with practically everything you say (although I think a five year gap between Sp2 and Sp3 is a perfectly reasonable intervals between sequels). I just found the OP’s tone of ‘crotchety old man scolding son’ rather amusing a ‘reflection on a video game presentation’.

“Now listen up Ninty, my boy. If you can’t jolly well get your act together I’ll give you a ruddy good hiding the likes of which you’ll never forget, is that quite clear?”

That’ll show Nintendo alright. We just have to march up to the Kyoto offices and show them the cane likes it was showed to be when I was a wee kipper.

@Punisher67 It's not 'universally agreed' as being a poor presentation. The entitled sooky babies that like to complain at every given opportunity are just the loudest. It happens with almost every Direct.
