@GameOtaku SMT V is definitely not a Q1/Q2 title. SMT III being a Spring release after Strikers and all the Persona 25th stuff in between probably means SMT V isn't coming out until the fall for at the earliest. I definitely didn't expect SMT V to be talked about here at all. They're probably saving it for the Online Concert happening next month

As for Persona, I believe that if it doesn't happen within this year given the 25th anniversary then the ship's pretty much sailed on that, especially since I completely expect both the PS4 and Steam versions of P5S to outsell the Switch version by a significant margin

I think this is a pretty bad take. Frankly the "general opinion" of Skyward Sword isn't the general opinion, it's the fan forum opinion. For the average consumer it's a Zelda game, all of which are relatively well received. I don't see any reason why a Skyward Sword HD would do any worse than Twilight Princess or Wind Waker.

I can see reasons why it would do worse than TP or WW. I mean - just look at the news article headlines about the possibility of TP HD and WW HD - they are all illustrated with a brilliant picture of WW and full of gushing about WW. TP is a footnote. Wind Waker is simply a bigger deal than the other 2.

That said I broadly agree with you - Skyward Sword is a great game by its own merits with a lot of great ideas well executed and it gets a raw deal among fans on the forums. Personally I rate it much higher than TP and I think it's a really good jumping in point for new players. It'll do really well and most people who play it will love it and never realise that it's not the "fan favourite" of the series.

Why not MM or OoT? It would take a LOT more development effort to bring those titles upto a "HD Remaster" standard. Purely because I don't think people would be as willing to pay full retail for an "emulated with nicer textures" effort. Unless it was a compilation release. I think it makes more sense to save the N64 Zeldas for a launch of N64 on Nintendo Switch Online

Personally I don't think that NSO N64 is ever happening. Mario 64 on the collection was really well done but it wasn't a straight drag and drop of the ROM... and OoT and MM have already revisited and improved versions which makes the N64 originals done up in HD less desirable.

The 3DS versions of OoT and MM done up in HD though would be pretty great. In a perfect world we'd get those versions of OoT and MM packaged up with WW HD and TP HD. That would be a collection of games of the type that Nintendo hasn't done since Mario All Stars on the SNES though so I'm not holding my breath for that.

I felt the Zelda news was more a sign that BotW 2 isn't releasing until 2022 at the earliest and perhaps the reason only Skyward Sword HD was announced is more towards the general opinion of Skyward Sword (generally considered the worst 3D Zelda).

Worst 3D Zelda is like the shortest giant. Pretty much every Zelda game since LttP has been brilliant.

I definitely wouldn't put Skyward Sword last though.

I swear it's all circular with Zelda games becoming popular and unpopular in phases but Skyward Sword just hasn't gotten to the beloved phase yet.

People loathed Wind Waker for the boring sailing and toon graphics, Twilight Princess was muddy looking and dumb, Majora's Mask was too weird, Ocarina was just an over rated 3D Link To The Past with nothing unique about etc but all of that has now changed.

We may get some Persona 5/R port news on the Twitch stream this morning possibly some SMT as well since they are going to have special developer messages during.

Personally what excited me was:

1. Project Triangle
2. Legend of Zelda : Skyward Sword HD
3. Splatoon 3
4. Capcom Arcade Stadium

Personally have no interest in Miitopia, or Mario Golf.

That all said, I am still expecting a limited time ‘Zelda Celebration’ like with Mario, but I think that game pack will be OOT, TP, and WW. and MM will be the Mario Galaxy 2 of the bunch.

And I still hope for that Metroid trilogy.

Still looking forward to the indie titles Eastward, and Bear and Breakfast.

@dionysos283
I do like the Zelda Joy Cons color schemes but not interested at all with the game.

@GameOtaku Highly unlikely. This is just a launch day stream in the same vein as the ones they've already done for Persona 5 Royal and even in Japan SMT Nocturne HD and they've never made game announcements there. Especially given Strikers is a multiplatform game why would they make a Switch-specific announcement there. It's probably just going to be Atlus and Koei Tecmo staff like Daisuke Kaneda and a few others just telling people they hope they enjoy the game

I was thinking more along the lines of a PC and Switch P5 port announcements seeing as both platforms are getting Strikers without any context of the original game and this would be the perfect time. (But after the Direct I’m really starting to wonder why they would hold any announcements back at all)

Magician

Makes me wish Sega didn't give Atlus full autonomy to release what they want, when they want.

I feel as though P5 will never come to Switch.

I'm kinda disappointed with the Miitopia announcement.
If they want to milk the 3DS then they should rather port A link between Worlds or Mario 3D Land.

Yes, disappointment stings, but being super negative all the time isn't really the right answer.

You are correct; being super negative isn't right. In my experience, it doesn't work either. It just makes you more bitter.

Signature, huh? Where do I sign?

TheFrenchiestFry

@Magician Honestly I'm glad SEGA is letting Atlus operate as is. Really the biggest downer of the SEGA acquisition was the fact that localizations are taking way longer now than they were back when Index was their parent company instead

@GameOtaku Was just watching the livestream and they opened it with the developer messages, one from Daisuke Kaneda (Atlus director/producer) and one from the Koei Tecmo Games director

No announcements regarding anything related to mainline Persona coming to Switch or P5 coming to Switch/PC. Just a congratulatory message marking the launch of the game and the difficulties of working on the Steam port and localization over the course of COVID

I was able to see some of it but my phones internet kept cutting out (joys of living in the rural countryside). I did see in the chat people asking about P5/R switch and pc ports as well as SMT. I’m beginning to wonder if companies have just lost the ability to communicate in a timely fashion. I thought the information super highway was supposed to make communication easier.

GameOtaku

TheFrenchiestFry

@GameOtaku They actually addressed the fact that they were aware of people tagging them in social media posts asking about the status of Strikers' localization throughout last year. They were under extremely strict NDA in addition to COVID delaying launch plans so it made it harder for them to keep quiet about whether it was happening before they were allowed to announce it

@jump I think it's starting to go through it's beloved phase, Skyward Sword that is. I can find a lot more people now who like the game than I did a few years ago.
