I know it may not have made everyone happy, but this Direct seemed to announce sequels to all my favorite third party titles outside of Hollow Knight. Disgaea, Rune Factory, Monster Hunter (and Stories!) all coming next year make me optimistic regardless of what Nintendo is bringing in terms of first-party.
Woah, I was not expecting same day Ori release, what the heck. It's killing me that I probably won't be able to play until Monday.
But my gosh, Monster Hunter + Stories, Digaea 6 (is that an exclusive? I hadn't heard of it coming out before), and Ori all in one direct were some great announcements. Combined with more details on Balan Wonderworld, Rune Factory 5 (looking good, pleaaaase let us romance same gender this time though), and the fact that SMT III / V and No More Heroes III are launching next year? 2021 is going to have an insanely good third party release schedule. Plus, Digimon Survive, , Sports Story, Axiom Verge 2, Ys IX, Wonder Boy, Trails of Cold Steel IV, probably Disco Elysium, Bravely Default II and Doom Eternal and hopefully Silksong and Bayonetta 3.
Of course, people will be complaining about 1st party all year probs but still. I'll be happy.
Made quite a point about Disgaea 6 being exclusive, @link3710 .... They certainly hadn't said anything about that game before, at all, anywhere! You played any of the series yet?
@BruceCM I've played Disgaea 5 and 1, though I haven't technically beaten either. They're certainly fun in their own way, though I didn't feel any drive to complete them to the very end. And wow, that means next year we have
1. Monster Hunter Rise
2. Monster Hunter Stories 2
3. Shin Megami Tensei V
4. Disgaea 6
5. No More Heroes 3
6. Rune Factory 5
That's more major 3rd party exclusives in one year than the entire rest of the Switch's lifespan combined.
I think Nintendo may understand Partner Showcases now. July's Partner Showcase was terrible because there were so few announcements meanwhile August's Partner Showcase was better but didn't have a big surprise like July's SMT3 + SMTV announcement. September's Partner Showcase was like if you combined the July and August Partner Showcases, you have a big surprise (Monster Hunter Rise, Monster Hunter Stories 2 and Ori 2) but also have a good number of overall announcements.
What I want to know is what other 3rd party announcements could they possibly have to fill out the year. Capcom likely has more in development (since the same leaks for MH confirmed that the same engine was being used for other projects), but not as soon as next month. Sega is likely going to be showing Sonic 2021 soonish, so that's possible. Though, I'd be surprised if it debuts on a Direct (unless it's also an exclusive, which is possible). We could see something like Ace Attourney 7 finally get announced from them though.
Bandai Namco... A Tales of Arise port is possible, but I don't expect another Tales of to be announced. Perhaps a Ni No Kuni II port? Or Tekken. Or y'know, just about anything considering the strange lack of ports from them. I'm not expecting anything showstopping though.
I guess that's more of the question. I feel like they've already covered basically everything showstopping already, I'm not sure what else they could reveal.
@link3710 yea im a little torn about ori dropping today. I liked the first game but I wasn't in love with it. Had it come out a few weeks ago it would've been an easy buy for me. But ill be so deep in mario 64 this weekend its not even worth it to buy ori right now.
@IceClimbers Oh there's always room for ports, the Switch has shown that. But I am curious about what the 'big' announcement will be moreso. Only a few ports (Kingdom Hearts Story So Far or III, Persona 5 Royal, etc) could command a big announcement slot.
I don't like any of the Mass Effect Remasters shown in today's presentation. Not a single thing looked remotely like Shepard. I demand my 16 minutes back.

@link3710 Square has clearly sworn off anything KH related lol
I would've thought P5R could've had a chance at a console port of some kind but the way Sony advertises it nowadays and the fact it's being featured as part of that PS4 Classics lineup next to games like God of War and TLoU Remastered makes it seem like Persona in particular is actually pretty important. They probably don't have any console exclusivity thing behind it but I don't know there's something kind of strange going on there. It's been a thing since the P4 days but especially now that P5's pushed the series into big mainstream popularity
I view P5R on Steam as considerably more likely however. In fact I think it's inevitable after P4G did amazingly well given that it was the first mainline Persona game to get a worldwide launch on a non-PS platform.

Alright, here's my prediction:
I expect a showcase for Immortals Fenyx Rising with Nintendo Switch exclusive DLC. Maybe a Pit costume and his weapon. Maybe even a Switch exclusive quest with a boss at the end like Medusa or something.
My prediction didn't came true but I still loved today's Direct(s). Best of the partner showcases by far!
@TheFrenchiestFry P5R isn't part of the Playstation Now though, that only features the original game. Which, why play that when Royal exists? But more to the point, suggests Atlus isn't as invested there as they'd have you believe.
But yeah, I meant to mention that I named those games (KH/Persona 5), because they aren't coming. I don't think there's any ports that are coming that could get that kind of attention.
But @Grumblevolcano is right, Rare Replay would be worthy of that. Not sure about Battletoads, it didn't exactly get a warm reception on Xbox from what I've heard. Other than that though? Dark Souls 2 could be notable if it happened. The original Witcher getting Console ports could be nice too, though both of those are more wishful thinking than anything.
@link3710 I feel like they would've put Royal on there if it wasn't so recent. P5R literally came out like 6 months ago while the original has been out technically for 4 years, which makes it I guess easier to include while Royal is still actively selling concurrently with PS4s?
