why are you guys asking for a next direct? we got new game announcements not even the past week for both mario and zelda. cant you guys be satisfied for at least 1 week?
-The last Direct was over a year ago.
-This has been one of the worst Nintendo years probably ever, as far as releases and communication go (and as is stated in this topic, this doesn't seem to be due to Covid)
-Even being a hardcore Mario and Zelda fan, I just don't care about games I own coming out again with no major updates and a Warrior game. (Galaxy is my favourite game ever.)
-Their strategy of waiting till the last minute to announce games has been really bad. Can't afford to buy 60€ games that come out of the blue. It also leads to months of question marks. Which would be OK, if the Switch wasn't a 300€ thing you buy with the promise of playing games on it. More info would be appreciated.
-Nintendo had to be sued into allowing people to cancel preorders, they've just been rubbing me the wrong way.
I think a good Nintendo Direct would be the only thing that could wash the bad taste away.
@kuri4 your life must be fun. Sorry that the major company you chose to buy a thing off of is pleasuring you personally. I'm sure there are still a few things to come too.

I dunno if you can make conclusions about a person's life based on them criticizing a (honestly lately pretty greedy) game company.
I want Nintendo to be what they can be-which is great.

I disagree completely that this is bad. I personally love the short turnaround between announcement and release date. I hate when games are announced forever in advanced and time just seems to drag on and on until release, even worse when there's delays. Just keep a little bit of money set aside just in case and that should't be an issue.

I also disagree with this. While there isn't too much I'm excited about from the upcoming releases, I think those plus Animal Crossing, Xenoblade, Paper Mario, 51 Worldwide Games, etc. has been a pretty solid year for first party releases overall. Nothing wrong with the way they've announced and communicated either, people are just way too impatient.

I agree with this. I feel it has been worse as a Wii U owner, because the expectation is that you will be excited to play x game again because they added in some small amount of new content on top, and charge full price.
Even if we include the new Hyrule Warriors game, there has only been 4 new games this year and your milage may vary.
For example, 51 Worldwide Games are games you will probably have played during yoir lifetime in one place, whilst neat, not particularly interesting.
Animal Crossing also varies because I personally find it boring; I enjoyed it somewhat once I finally figured out what the heck I was doing, but then it got boring again when I realised that there are only really two ways to play:
1 - The Social Architect - Where you interact frequently with the community (both in with villagers and out the game with IRL people) and concentrate on decorating your island your way.
2 - The Collector - You purposely try to hunt down as many insects, bugs, fush and unique furniture as possible whilst expanding your home as much as possible.
Both of these methods of play felt like work to me, when I could be relaxing and playing something else.
I want to try the new Paper Mario, but given my experience with Sticker Star and ongoing experience with Colour Splash, and what I have seen of The Origami King, I cannot see anything that would convince me that I will actually enjoy it and not just be disappointed again. I don't particular feel like wasting money on something that I think I will hate, since I already spend enough on games that I think I might like but don't.
Obviously I can't judge the new Hyrule Warriors yet, but it is the only thing I am somewhat looking forward to this year because I am hoping it will fill the hole of disappointment left from the lack of story/worldbuilding in BOTW.
Regarding the direct however; as nice as a proper direct would be, I have given up the ghost when it comes to wanting one. Nintendo seem very stubborn in not wanting to do one. It is just easier to write off the year (and perhaps the next) at this point.
@IceClimbers that sad, but considering until now we dindt have a update of the game, a lot of people expected this game to release this year, with me supecting they could delay the game to be the best No More Heroes game, WOW 2021 is gonna be crowded year of Switch, something tell me that Square Enix is also gonna delay Bravely 2 to 2021.
@Slowdive this is cool, thanks for sharing it. Interesting to see that each year had Exactly 10 “major” releases?!
Tho I definitely wouldn’t consider all of them major *cough *cough mystery dungeon.
Looking at all this together, I feel like 2017 and 2019 were definitely the best years for Switch. Tho I’m not mad at 2020 now that we know what’s coming in the next few months.
Personally I am not an animal crossing or paper mario fan, but for someone who is a big fan of those franchises 2020 has been a great year!
There has been some good 3rd party stuff this year (with more to come hopefully), I was very happy with the Bioshock collection, the Mario 35th collection and Pikmin 3 are great releases for me too. Nintendo will never be able to please everyone, but as @sammycool123 said, this has not been a bad year.
Who would have thought a new Mario Kart gets released and people still are not happy ;p
Ha ha!! The only thing I think anyone can be justifiably unhappy about is the price £100 with only 1 cart is a bit expensive, especially as they haven't announced any standalone carts yet. Apart from that it looks amazing!
After this, Labo and RingFit, I wonder what they will come up with next.
