I'm starting to think, that if there's no general Direct in March (or maybe the beginning of April?), then we won't see one until June. Think about it: Why would they host two general Directs within 1,5 months after a gap of 8 month? So I guess Nintendo just has nothing to announce for the first half of the year. 😕
@WaffleKnight As it’s March 24 already, I think you’re right! I still have hope for an announcement tomorrow, but I’m starting to think Covid-19 has put everything on the back burner. It’s starting to seem more likely that we won’t see anything till June.
I don't see how much work can get done at home. Id rather them not rush games and instead push them back to next year. In the meantime give us ports and some Nintendo selects. (Kirby, arms, 1-2 switch should all get a 50% discount)
I’m perfectly fine and understanding when it comes to delays. Given the real-world circumstances. Game delays i think are to be expected.
The thing for me, and I think for many people, is we literally do not know anything that’s coming. That’s whats causing people to get anxious and I’m sure will affect investors.
Quite literally, apart from a remake, Nintendo’s first party slate is a blank slate for the foreseeable future. The Illumination movie, the theme parks lands, jeans, legos, opening a recently new official store are all nice and will play well with investors, but just as it is with many other businesses, it is not the core of Nintendo’s business.
I think if you look, for instance at the WiiU virtual console library, most of that library is now on Switch eShop in some form or another. What IS missing is Nintendo’s back catalog. Even with the SNES games alone, they could lean into their still deep (and much loved) first party back catalog to make up for delays.
Sony is capping off the first half of the year with their last big exclusives and titles. Final Fantasy 7 Remake, Last of Us Part 2, and Ghost of Tsushima. And then they’ll be already hyping up PlayStation 5.
Xbox can afford to play the long game because they are only a smaller portion of a much larger company, plus they have Halo Infinite, Gears Tactics, and probably another Forza this year, and they have Project XCloud and Series X launching.
I know and fully get Nintendo marches to the beat of its own drum, but even they cannot completely ignore the competition. The issue I’m raising is we have to atleast know what is coming in the next 6-9 months at the very least. Delays or no delays. Both for their customers and their investors.

Switch: Xenoblade Chronicles
Playstation 5: Assassins Creed Shadows

@Neoguardian86 do you really think they won't have any releases through the year. Panic should be saved for viruses with no real cure, not for unannounced games. As for the competition it's ok to lose the battle (2020) but win the war (2021+).
@sixrings A lot of work can get done at home. I'm a programmer who's been working remotely for the past four years, it's not as bad as people make it sound. Honestly, I'm mostly worried about the music if anything, most of what it takes to make a video game can be done remotely with ease.
If they don't announce something tomorrow, I hope they at least explain what's going on. If the virus has meant they're delaying most of their releases, they need to say something.

It's definitely NOT ok for Nintendo to do worse than Playstation when the PS4 is in its final year, and the Switch is at the peak (or what should be the peak) of it's lifecycle.
I'm very confused on the idea that Nintendo just won't release games this year. Like why not?
There's no reality in which this is based on anything...barring maybe delays that would also affect EVERYONE ELSE. I mean Sony does have some games that were announced like 4 years ago and took longer than they probably should have (the actual reason they're here this year) but I don't think that will magically kill Sony's competition.
I mean I also think that it's annoying that Nintendo seems to overdo the latter half of years (Daemon X Machina should've been delayed until February), but Summer and Fall 2020 is still 2020.
When Nintendo had 3DS and gave up on Wii U it still put out Wii U games, there's no reality there's less than a decent chunk of quality, semi-high to high profile games from them this year (again barring the obvious major reason things would be delayed for everyone).
I can thoroughly understand if Nintendo doesn't want to put out a Direct making promises they aren't certain they can keep right now because of the situation with the virus. But they could make some kind of announcement to let us know what's up. It's really weird that the only first party releases we know are coming are a Xenoblade remaster and Pokemon DLC.
@Neoguardian86 Frankly I'd be 125% okay with Nintendo just porting all their first and second party virtual console titles from 3DS and Wii U to Switch. I'd dump a couple hundred dollars on them in the blink of an eye. The Advance Wars and Fire Emblem games, Mario 64, the Pokemon games. Earthbound. But I think that ship has sailed. For whatever reason Nintendo seem adamant about leaving VC dead and giving us this super slow trickle of NSO releases...

@Neoguardian86 It's not impossible that the global situation might push them to doing that if they have to delay major releases. Not likely - but not impossible.
It's also possible they might do a half measure and ya know, actually start updating NSO with many of those emulators and games. I wouldn't complain about that.

They don't need to really lie about anything. Just give vague release dates. If something is aiming for July, just say it's releasing Q3, that way it has an extra 2-3 months if needed.
I think nintendo should do a direct and give release dates for xenoblade chronicles, No more heroes 3, deadly prominition 2, xcom 2, bioshock the collection and catherine full body. I believe most of these are ready beause they have already been rated. This would hold us over until e3 and hopefully by then nintendo won't be affect as much by the coronavirus anymore.
