Go on then, precisely how much less could you care?

@link3710 Oh yeah, absolutely. But the difference between vaccinated people and unvaccinated people getting the flu is only 1-2%, and the significance isn't very strong either. So in reality it doesn't really make a difference. Like I said, there are plenty of countries that don't offer seasonal flu shots to everyone, and the mortality rate of seasonal flu isn't any different. So it doesn't seem to have an effect, and the literature supports this as well.

But whatever, back to Nintendo Directs

At this rate, We'll all get our next flu shot before we get our next Nintendo direct 😛

@k8sMum @Vee_Flames For risk groups I agree, but that's far from everyone, most people are healthy. We don't have a higher mortality rate of seasonal flu cases because of the lack of annual shots. Additionally, there hasn't been evidence that it even helps in healthy adults (source). So it seems a bit pointless to me, and a waste of resources since it doesn't really help.

But I'm also still baffled by the fact that you get completely sedated in some countries when they pull a tooth

Well, to be fair, the flu isn't anything to be scared of at all, and for most people the body recovers from a virus invasion pretty quickly, even though I wouldn't wish the symptoms on anyone. At the end of the day though, getting sick because you didn't bother to get the shot is rather inconvenient, seeing as you could have to stay away from work or be unproductive for some time. Not to mention that we kind of put the vulnerable, such as the sick, those with weak immune systems, and the elderly if we're walking around as virus producing factories.

Oh look, @link3710 beat me to it, haha. Regarding the study you linked, though... well, a reduction of flu rates in healthy adults from 2% to around 0.9% is better than nothing, especially when you consider that the flu virus is something that mutates a lot, so just saying the difference is around 1-2% is kind of missing the mark. Off topic, but the study also mentions that vaccines raise fevers but doesn't really give any context behind it. That's weird, because then readers are prone to think that that's a bad thing, when that's pretty much a normal side effect of vaccinations and is more times than others a sure sign that the body is responding to the vaccines.

EDIT: But yes, back to vacci.. er, I mean, back to the coronav--- Nintendo Directs. I meant to say Nintendo Directs.

So if this evil bat virus is affecting everything, why haven't ALL games being delayed?

FF7 is coming out in a month, and they've said nothing of a delay. In fact the recent trailers reiterated the release date.

The point about the virus is not that 'everything's going to be delayed', it's that it is disrupting the global economy, creating uncertainty, and when that happens, large corporations are likely to take a cautious approach, reassessing their short/medium-term plans, and putting big decisions/announcements on hold while they weigh up their options and see how the disruption plays out, maybe delaying a few projects to reduce their exposure to risk.

It would be a bit odd though if the entire entertainment industry all took the decision at the same time to delay everything.

You guys had me at blood and semen.

@Dezzy Well, I mean... FF7R was most likely in development/production for almost 5+ years at this point, given that the game was announced 5 years ago. COVID-19 wasn't really a thing back then and not even up until recently, so I'm pretty sure Square Enix would have figured out the logistics for distributing the game (or not, seeing as they made the fascinating decision to "episodize" the game) before the current outbreak.

Well but no-one expected a global virus to suddenly appear, did they? So Square would probably have left the physical manufacturing part until the last minute, as I assume they usually do?
I doubt developers print millions of discs years before release. What if the game ends up getting canceled? Would've blown a lot of money.

@Dezzy True, but let's look at the timeline. It's launching early April. That means distribution to stores probably started early March. Which means, the game probably went Gold mid to late January, and started production of discs.

So even if production numbers are down thanks to COVID-19, they were likely too far along before factories started closing to turn back now. Same thing with Nintendo and Animal Crossing, though at least AC will likely be mostly digital.

Nintendo of Japan updated their Direct playlist today. How long was the wait between the ACNH Direct and the previous playlist update?

A_Kirby_fan

link3710

@A_Kirby_fan Two or three weeks, which is what it almost always is. Looks like I miiiight be wrong about the April 1st direct. Or maybe it's an Indie World coming, who knows.

Atomic77

The Nintendo Direct is something that comes directly from Nintendo and nobody really knows when the next one is except for Nintendo itself.

@Atomic77 Well I can tell you whats it going to be about. They will take 30 minutes to tell you the origin story of Metroid then tell you the release date has been pushed back to 2021.

They updated the playlist 1 week before the Animal Crossing Direct. It was Feb 13th, then Direct on Feb 20th.

Looks like next Thursday might be a candidate for the Direct. Guess they're not worrying too much about having it too near to AC launch.

link3710

@Dezzy Huh, I swore it was either two or three. Guess that's what I get for not looking it up lol. But yeah, that'd make more sense, next week is the last week I could reasonably expect it before April. We might be getting more AC details considering the timing...? Odd.

link3710

link3710

@Dezzy No I meant, if we get a general direct 2 weeks before AC launches, there's probably going to be AC details of some sort in it.

Grumblevolcano

@link3710 Well there's still a very big unknown regarding Animal Crossing and that's the "In-Game Purchases" in the ESRB rating.

I tell you something I'd really love in this Direct, but I'm not actually expecting to happen, and that's a new Star Fox game.
I thought the Wii U game was brilliant except for that hideous control scheme. It sold abysmally though apparently.

@link3710

Yeah I'm guessing there will be. They'll give it one big final trailer so it doesn't get overshadowed.

Can someone go into more detail about what ‘updating the playlist’ actually means? How do you update a list without adding or taking away something from it? Specifically what has changed?

@Maxz Updating the playlist means something has been added or removed. On Youtube you can upload videos that are unlisted (only people with the link can watch the video) and they appear hidden in playlists until they're listed.

So in the context of the Directs, an unlisted Direct may have been uploaded and added to the Direct playlist which won't become visible to the general public until it's been listed.
