Like I mentioned in the main Switch thread, I have a feeling there'll be a November general Direct (after Bayonetta 3). With the exception of Pokemon Legends Arceus last year (TPC does their own thing so it's different), Fire Emblem Engage is the first new 1st party Nintendo game (as in not a port/remaster/remake) to release in a specific year before March (i.e. release in January or February) since Mario & Luigi Paper Jam in January 2016 (that game had presence in the November 2015 general Direct). New games need bigger promo cycles than ports/remasters/remakes so a general Direct in November would fit as in addition to that, December and March are also unknown at this point.
@Grumblevolcano I highly doubt we get a general Direct in November. Nintendo seems to only want to do general Directs in the early part of the year, in June provided E3 happens, and then in September. Everything else is a standalone announcement.
I suspect Fire Emblem Engage will get a new trailer at the beginning of November, which is when Nintendo will start the main promo cycle for the game as it'll be the next 1st party release after Bayonetta 3 (besides Pokémon, which is handled by TPCi). Then we'll get a dedicated Direct in mid-December and maybe some footage at The Game Awards.
December is usually a blue ocean title (2018 being the exception with Smash) and that's usually a standalone announcement on Twitter. As for March and April, I suspect whatever is launching then won't be a brand new game or we'd have seen it today. It's likely a port of some kind (Yoshi's Wooly World?) and that can easily be a standalone announcement.
Good things: BOTW 2 gets a name and release date!
First Splatfest.
MK8DX Wave 3 insight.
Bad things: WAY too many farming sims.
Miyamoto seems to have forgotten that Mario is a VIDEO GAME character. It's been 5 years.
Just a lack of real powerful releases apart from TOTK and Pikmin 4.
Why did every developer decide to put out a farming game at the same time? That's very weird.
Did everyone notice Stardew Valley's success at the exact same time?
Regardless, it seems like Nintendo was very focused on just the Fall and Winter, outside of a couple of vague 2023 dates, I think basically nothing outside of BOTW2 (I'm still calling it that for now) is after the Winter. Not super interested in a ton of the games they showed, but my backlog and my "to buy" lists are obnoxious at this point, so I genuinely consider that a good thing. I've not even bought Octopath 1 yet, and that was high up on my list and came out 4 years ago. But at least if people were a bit underwhelmed this time, it actually makes sense this time.
Just finished watching the direct, it was pretty good.
While I wasn't interested in most of the announcements shown I can still acknowledge that the direct had a variety of good ones for everyone else.
Ignoring all those farming games besides maybe Harvestella we still had some good new announcements like Front Mission Remakes 1-3 with release dates, Fire Emblem Engage, Pikmin 4, Botw 2, Octopath 2, Atelier Ryza 3 and more.
It's also nice that they gave us more info on upcoming games like Bayonetta 3 Mario + Rabbids, etc. and updates for ones that are already out like Mario Kart 8dx's booster pass, XC3's expansion pass, Splatoon 3 and more.
@chapu2006 I mean: Mario games take a damn long while to make. The only time we've had 2 brand new 3D Mario's on the same system was Galaxy 1&2 with the Wii. I guess you could count 3D World + Bowser's Fury on Switch but that makes it even less time since we've had a brand new 3D Mario game. I hope we do get one soon but it'll most likely be when the next console comes out more than anything.

@chapu2006 That's entirely different story yeah, I'm shocked we haven't had a new one in what's basically a decade (not counting ports or Mario Maker). I'd love to see one that has a brand new artstyle from what came before (either Sonic Mania-esque pixel art sprite reimaginings or hand drawn Paper Mario-styled characters. Or that one level from U that was like a Van Gogh painting, that'd be great as well).

Looking back on my predictions, I think I did alright.
We didn't get a new Mario or Donkey Kong platformer (which is a shame) and I fell for the Metroid Prime HD rumours (shame on me), but I did get the Zelda name and date drop correct as well as a new Fire Emblem announcement and the Xenoblade 3 DLC reveal.
Nintendogs didn't happen but that was a wild card anyway, and I'm happy I didn't fell for the WW/TP HD rumours.
Breath of the Wild 2 title and release date reveal
Xenoblade 3 Wave 2 DLC hero reveal
Super Mario or Donkey Kong platformer
Fire Emblem (might be a remake)
Metroid Prime HD
As for my wild card: Nintendogs.
What I don't think we'll see, contrary to popular belief: Wind Waker & Twilight Princess HD ports. I think we'll get these games on Switch eventually but only after BotW2.
I liked this Direct very much. The games I'm most excited about are Octopath Traveller 2, Pikmin 4, Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe, Tunic, It Takes Two, Tales of Symphonia Remastered, Atelier Ryza 3, Radiant Silvergun, Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse and of course The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. (I'm not a Fire Emblem fan.)
Sadly, I won't have enough time nor money to play them all.
