@Bunkerneath In February 2021, they said the direct would focus on games releasing in the first half of 2021, and then announced Triangle Strategy and Splatoon 3. We’ll definitely be seeing some 2023 games, whether by Nintendo or a third party.

6. A New Wario Game (like Wario World or Wario Land)

@MarioBrickLayer The Portal collection is the first Valve release on the Switch though they did port Portal and Half-Life 2 to the Nvidia Shield (a similar device) so a Half-Life collection would seem fitting given the Portal collection exists.
So some random stab in the dark predictions given that's the thing to do. We're getting fairly close to the NSO renewal period for people who went in for a year after the NSO+ expansion was announced so I think more NSO content would be a fairly safe guess. And if that does happen the safest bet there would be GB/GBC/GBA, which has already been heavily implied with data mining for a while already
In terms of fairly obvious and known content? Obviously BotW 2 has been super quiet so some more news there would be welcome. Bayonetta 3 is coming out soon so probably something for that. And they'll probably drop something in about Splatoon given it just launched. I think it's also about time that they pushed Advance Wars out the door
Now for some of the more outlandish theories. As always, predicting a variation of something that has already happened is pretty easy to do. 3D All Stars was a thing so Metroid Prime Trilogy, Wind Waker, Twilight Princess are all easy predictions. I'd go further and say that an Oracle of Seasons/Ages remake in the style of Link's Awakening HD is a fair guess.
I for one would love to see them bring back some long forgotten franchises. 2D Wario, Rhythm Heaven, Kid Icarus, PunchOut. Hell, at this point it's been 10 years since the Wii U launched so there are a LOT of games that haven't had a new entry for a while. Especially if you discount Switch remakes. The last DKC was released in 2014, Pikmin 2013, New SMB 2012, Mario & Luigi 2015
What I don't think we'll get? New hardware. Not at this point in the year. I'll be pretty hyped if I was wrong on this last point. And in a similar vein I'm not really expecting anything huge in terms of software to be announced, because new hardware is probably fairly soon

Anyone else making a bingo sheet this time round? It's a nice little tradition I've done since I think 2019 and it makes looking back on the Direct even more exciting when you could have a bingo on your hands. I'm still writing mine up but ones already on there include everything I said previously in my predictions, a 2nd Ace Attorney Trilogy, a random new Warriors game and a new Fire Emblem. Let's hope I'm right (especially with that second one, I WANT TO BELIEVE).

@skywake NSO is a good shout. I listened to Nate the Hate's prediction podcast with Jeff Grubb last night and they said they have heard a few rumours about GameCube coming to NSO in a limited capacity for games which they won't remaster such as Pikmin 1, Luigi's Mansion etc. Gameboy must be soon though, the leak was it has been done for over a year...
@MarioBrickLayer You know me. I value the third party stuffs over the first party announcements. Give me confirmation of the Return to Arkham Collection for Switch rather than the title name for BotW 2 and a June 2023 release window.
Switch Physical Collection - 1,537 games (as of December 22nd, 2025)
Switch 2 Physical Collection - 4 games (as of December 8th, 2025)
@Magician@MarioBrickLayer I value near future the most so like MK8 Deluxe DLC wave 3 being revealed for October/November would mean more to me than something being announced for 2023.
@Grumblevolcano I know what you mean, generally I agree. It will be interesting to see what happens after BOTW2 and Metroid Prime 4 are released, I wonder if Nintendo regret announcing them too early?
