@CANOEberry I think 2020 trained me to just wait... for everything, directs especially. But at least I'm not antsy like some people.

edit I hope "antsy" means what I think it means

I doubt the 29th for a few reasons - it's oddly late (I don't think a Direct has ever been that late in a given month, though they certainly aren't locked to the first half), it basically overlaps with the investor meeting as others have said, and it's right before the release of Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak. Outside of E3, I don't think we really get Directs right before major releases. Sure, Sunbreak is DLC, but it's still being touted as a huge deal. And that makes the idea of a Direct next week sketchy, too, as Three Hopes releases then (the scheduled eShop maintenance on the 22nd probably doesn't indicate anything). It's not impossible, but this week feels like the most sensible one for a June direct.

Would it really hurt Nintendo to be a little less mysterious and just announce the date for the Direct now instead of the day or two beforehand? Right now outside of already announced games (while those are indeed good games) we have really nothing going on from July onward. The whole deal with Persona as well is baffling. Why wait till a direct to announce it? All that does is anger and confuse consumers.

Nate the Hate said the Direct would be on the 28th or 29th depending on time zone.
If that's true and they air the Direct at the usual time, it would be like 4 hours before the meeting.
If anything of this is actually true.

@PikaPhantom Not that late though not far off (the September 2021 Direct was on the 23rd which was around 2-3 weeks later than normal for a September Direct). As for Sunbreak, it's a digital only release so from June 23rd (1 week before launch) you can't cancel your preorder so a Direct on June 29th would be less risky for Capcom than if there was a physical version.

@Giancarlothomaz I would love it personally but the only time they've ever done a Treehouse that wasn't to do with E3 or other gaming events like Gamescom if I'm not mistaken was that random one from July 2020 with Origami King gameplay and the reveal of a really weird WayForward Bakugan game. Not to say it wouldn't happen but I have my doubts. My favourite bits of E3 are the live gameplay demos straight afterwards though so I'd be more than down for it.

Regarding the Switch news section, here's the timings so far for the wave 1 track articles:

  • April 29th - Tour Paris Promenade
  • May 17th - 3DS Toad Circuit
  • May 24th - N64 Choco Mountain
  • June 7th - Wii Coconut Mall
  • June 14th - Tour Tokyo Blur

So at the current pacing, the final 3 will be:

  • June 21st - DS Shroom Ridge
  • June 28th - GBA Sky Garden
  • July 5th - Tour Ninja Hideaway

So it seems while there may be a Direct on June 29th, wave 2 probably isn't releasing until mid-July.

@Grumblevolcano Is that a region-specific approach? They've been doubling up the tracks here in North America and doing posts every 2 weeks. Either way, there's going to be overlap if there's a Direct before the 5th

Do you guys think we will hear about new consoles coming to NSO? I'm predicting we will because the last N64 game (well of the ones they've announced) Pokemon Snap seems like it will coincide around the same time as the next direct.

I'm predicting Game Boy being added to the standard subscription package and Game Boy Advance being added to the Booster Pack. Worst case scenario is Nintendo adds a THIRD tier called Booster Pack Pro or something with GB/GBA and charges people more for it but hope that doesn't happen.

@Clyde_Radcliffe Wouldn't make sense to add GBA to a third tier. There's more value for your money with N64 games than GBA games. I could see them maybe doing something like that if they added GC, though.

WiiWareWave

@TommyTendo Uh...why would it automatically be part of a "third tier"? Could be added to the current one alongside GB/GBC like the SNES was added a year or so after NES was added to the base service? 🤔

@PikaPhantom I think it's just Europe but it would be interesting to see the timings of the America channel.

I doubt that we will get a Nintendo Direct this week because of the FFVII 25th Anniversary stream tomorrow

@Clyde_Radcliffe They're not that big. The discs are 1.4gb, but they can (most likely) easily compress them.
Shouldn't be an issue since you can expand up to 1TB or 2TB with SD cards.
