Topic: Next Nintendo Direct?

@anoyonmus Nintendo systems used to be the platform for SMT and Soul Hackers 2 is coming to everything but Switch. A Direct would be a way to resolve that and the Persona situation.

@Grumblevolcano Soul Hackers 2 is probably coming to Switch at a later time which is fine tbh. Nintendo would want to announce a game like that at their own direct. Same with Persona imo. Nintendo will want to announce Persona themselves and not Atlus with a tweet.

Remember Life is Strange True Colors? It didn't get announced for Switch when it got announced before E3. But at E3, it did get announced.

Here is something even weirder. P4G and P3P got announced for PS5. BUT NO PS4 VERSION!!!!

PS4 isn't getting P4G and P3P so far right now.

@anoyonmus Yeah, the situation's very weird. A similar thing happened with Judgment where when it went multiplatform after PS4 exclusivity, it came to Series X|S but not XB1 yet the sequel Lost Judgment did come to XB1.

@Grumblevolcano guess Switch owners aren't completely alone. PS4 isn't getting P4G and P3P (they have P5R but Switch has SMT V so its fair)

I've been hoping for a port of the Disney Afternoon collection but it's looking unlikely...

@MarioBrickLayer Disney Afternoon Collection is 5 years old now. I don't think it will happen, they would have already released it on Switch at this point.

I just thought of new logic behind the potential later timing, God of War Ragnarok State of Play. Nintendo always went last with E3 and used that timing to dominate the spotlight (they've been successful with that strategy quite a lot) but this time unless GoW Ragnarok is delayed to 2023 (which Sony Santa Monica has reiterated is not the case), Sony would be last if Nintendo did a Direct this week.

So a June 23rd GoW Ragnarok State of Play (Sony mostly does State of Play on Thursday) would mean Nintendo would do a Direct on June 29th to be last to showcase their lineup.

@Grumblevolcano But would Nintendo have known about such a State of Play for God of War months in advance when they started planning the Direct? I don’t think it’s too easy to make any changes to the date once third party publishers start preparing their marketing around the Direct.

I'm sure I saw something that thought the game would be November & it'd get it's own State of Play at the end of June, @Grumblevolcano ..... No idea where they got that from but if it's officially still releasing this year, which is official, they'll definitely want to announce a date soon!

My only problem with Nintendo having a Direct on the 29th is that that's also the day of the shareholder meeting. I know it's been brought up before, but I feel like it would make more sense for them to do the Direct at least a few days before that meeting.

@StarPoint Would it then be wiser to have a Direct before or after it? If you did it before, you could showcase all the new announcements during that meeting but then if you did it afterwards, you could build intrigue and maybe make them want to invest due to a possible opportunity cost. Having it on the day though would be very strange though.

Would they release the direct the same day as the share holders meeting or is that unheard of?

@Fizza Those meetings are not about getting people to invest. It's about making the existing shareholders happy and keeping them informed on what's going on.

I love shareholder meeting days, all the big bosses are gone so I can swear in the office plus they usually get a huge spread of Krispy Kreme, Subway sandwiches etc for them which they will barely eat and then head office staff get to have the rest. If you make friends with the office manager/secretaries they will make sure you have first dibs!

@Fizza I think timing-wise, it would make sense to have it before the investor meeting. Like @jump said, it's mainly about making those existing investors happy and informed, so I think it would be a smart move to have the Direct before that meeting.

I see it very likely that Nintendo could plan their Direct for after the Sony State of Play, as that's similar to how their E3 timing was.

It's for existing shareholders, who mostly need continual reassurance their investment is paying off, @Fizza .... So, as long as Sony isn't doing that on June 30th, @StarPoint! We'll have to wait & see, I suppose

@FragRed Well it's pretty obvious that the Partner Showcases in 2020 are remnants of the cancelled E3 Direct so it's not impossible. All that would be affected are any 3rd games planned for the Direct that were launching in between the 2 dates, maybe those games were given to Geoff.

@BruceCM it's not so much about reassurance though, it's a legal duty for public companies to have shareholder meetings. You can't expect people with stock to google the company to find out what's going on. It's why the meetings are normally held around 3/4 months after it's years end so the financial statements for the year are then finalized and ready to review.

Yeah, I meant for why they'd want the Direct before, @jump .... They usually have had one a week or 2 before them!

Maybe they'll watch the Direct at the meeting? 😀
