@Grumblevolcano That's exactly what I said they'll do. They're putting out standalone trailer after trailer, which covers all the June / July stuff. Then in September we'll get a big direct. No reason for them to play their cards right now.
@link3710 You were saying that the reason of no Direct would be that there's not enough to talk about but I feel there's more than enough to talk about but Nintendo wants complete focus on the summer titles. Both our points do come to the same conclusion of shadow drops replacing a June general Direct and the next one being in September.
Wasn't there supposed to be a direct today too? I think it was leaked last week. At this point, I'll believe a direct is happening when it slaps me in the face.

That would very much be a direct hit, wouldn't it?
I'll see myself out.

This is gonna seem a bit tangenty but here we go. Every E3 direct we've gotten there has been games announced for the following years, not just the current year
2017: Kirby, Pokemon, Metroid, & Yoshi
2018: Daemon X Machina & Fire Emblem
2019: No More Heroes 3, Animal Crossing, & Zelda
2021: Mario + Rabbids & Zelda
The only game we know is releasing next year so far is zelda and maybe advance wars, so even though we might know most of their lineup for this year, I could still definitely see them announcing a couple 2023 games
@Blooper987 My guess? Pikmin 4. I've never played a Pikmin game before in my life besides the Pikmin 3 Demo but I really liked what I did play so I would be down as all hell for it.

@Fizza Pikmin 4 would definitely be a good game to announce early. I was also thinking maybe donkey Kong or a new f-zero / mainline fire emblem could be possible
Given the turn of events, I feel we're probably looking at a Partner Showcase. The game in question is a 3rd party game and 3rd party support after June is light but the recent 1st party announcements doesn't make sense to be absent from a Direct which features 1st party games.
I remember when there were all those rumours suggesting a huge general Direct in July 2020 with a focus on Mario but then while the date was correct, we got that very short Partner Showcase focused on SMT.
@Grumblevolcano I feel like people would be seething if we get a Partner Showcase. Especially in JUNE where everyone else is busting out these big presentations.
Personally I feel as though it'll be featured in sizzle reel in a general Direct similar to what happened with Spyro, Lucky's Tale, etc.

@Fizza Not if they included games like Sports Story and Silksong. People were expecting massive disappointment with the State of Play last week (due to the 3rd party and VR focus) but outside of those who feel that Sony releasing 1st party games on PC is ruining Playstation, it was generally very well received.
