Could we get Donkey Kong this fall?

StarPoint

@nitrolink I really hope the 3D Donkey Kong rumors are true. I think a Fall release could be likely if announced at this year's June Direct. 4 to 5 months between reveal and release seems about right for a DK game.

So, what are the chances we don't get a direct between now and June? Given the delay video we just got, we might just get a standalone vid for the June release (presumably Splatoon 3) and that'll be it til we get closer.

IceClimbers

@link3710 The June releases are Mario Strikers and FE Warriors Three Hopes.

We're definitely not getting a general Direct before June/E3, but I would hope we get a dedicated Splatoon 3 Direct before then to give an information blowout for the game.

Splatoon 3's marketing has been... really weird so far. With Kirby out, they really need to start ramping up the marketing for this game.

@IceClimbers Oh jeez, didn't realize those both had dates... Well I should've guessed Strikers was June, that's the Mario spinoff month.

...though with Advance Wars probably permanently scrapped, there's kind of a big gap until then. Ah well, I've got a ridiculous backlog anyways.

IceClimbers

@link3710 I mean, there is Switch Sports in late April, but yeah it's a bit of a gap between now and Mario Strikers. Fine by me though, I'll finally have some time for my backlog haha

@IceClimbers I literally already forgot Switch Sports exists, wow. That game literally made no impression on me.

Then again, I was never a Wii Sports fan so...

Still, that does fix things up a bit knowing it's there. Looks like June-ish is the next direct then... Probably after Mario Strikers comes out.

@IceClimbers @link3710, yeah, April is Switch Sports, May is Touken Ranbu Warriors (third party exclusive), while June is Mario Strikers & Fire Emblem Warriors 3H, so we're pretty set until the June Direct.

Though Touken Ranbu Warriors will probably be brutalized by FEW3H. I have no idea why they'd release 2 exclusive Warriors games in back to back months.

I'm in no rush for another Direct before June because it'll probably take me till then to work through all of my March/April releases anyway. Would love to see an Indie Showcase soon though as I haven't had a whole lot of eShop games to download lately and could go for some interesting small stuff to play on the side/in-between bigger games.

@IceClimbers In general it's a weird one, not just Splatoon 3.

  • BotW 2 delay announced via its own video rather than E3 showcasing a big new trailer with the delay announced at the end
  • Splatoon 3's marketing has been rather weird (February Direct only revealing the return of Salmon Run particularly) but game specific Directs are generally up to a month before launch so I don't think we'll see a Splatoon 3 Direct until July whether the launch is in July or August
  • May drought, while the initial intention was Advance Wars + Switch Sports in April and Mario Strikers + Three Hopes in June, usually when there's nothing on the 1st party front there's 3rd party games filling in the gaps but that's not the case here

I can think of a few ways it could make sense:
1. E3 is revealed to be fully cancelled and Nintendo decides to do their next general Direct in May (BotW 2 ends up not being present)
2. Mario Strikers gets its own Direct and like the ARMS Direct in 2017 there's a Splatoon trailer at the end

I do think April's main event will be Indie World.

@Grumblevolcano I wonder if the reason for the BOTW2 video yesterday is to setup a quick announcement of WW/TP, maybe for May? although if they were going to do that would they do a single video announcing the delay and the port?

Possible they thought it better to do the announcement for those a bit later, @MarioBrickLayer .... Fingers crossed, at least!

@BruceCM Surely they must be coming this year now!! What do you think are the chances of a double pack rather than separate releases?

Which would you play first?!

MarioBrickLayer

BruceCM

Yeah, it seems more likely they'd be this year now, @MarioBrickLayer .... Doesn't need a long time between announcing & releasing, though! Perhaps they thought it'd be better not to do the 'sorry, BotW 2 is going to be delayed but here's other Zeldas you can play soon' routine again, lol?
Or they want to be absolutely sure of the exact release date before revealing it maybe. They both had HD ports already, right? I'd hope the physical release would be a double pack & then you could have them available separately in the eshop but it wouldn't exactly surprise me if they had separate physicals, too
Dunno much about those games, really, so I'd just go for release order!

@Magician Actually, it doesn't free up a space. They could still have a deep dive in June, despite delaying it. Got to reveal the date of the game at some point, and have to provide more info this year, if they want it to make it to spring.

@WoomyNNYes I’m not sure an apology video would be right for a direct. Switch sports is also a minor release that’s had its reveal.
