@Anti-Matter I think Nintendo Switch Sports (god I hate that name) is what they might have been talking about in those rumours in hindsight.

@Fizza
Nintendo Switch Sports was also disappointing me. 😑
No Boxing on it and I don't like soccer at all.
Only 6 Sports available, that was very disappointing as Nintendo Switch has enough power to put at least 20 different sports with Boxing on it.

This is pretty hilarious. We got 2 more 2017 sequel games: Fire Emblem Warriors 2 and Xenoblade 3. We already had Splatoon 3, Mario+Rabbids 2, and BotW 2.

So my guess for the Switch's major lineup for this year:

January - Pokemon Legends Arceus
February -
March - Triangle Strategy, Kirby
April - Advance Wars, Switch Sports
May -
June - Mario Strikers, FE Warriors
July - Splatoon 3, Live A Live
August - Mario + Rabbids
September - Xenoblade 3
October - Bayonetta 3, Metroid Prime
November - Donkey Kong
December - Zelda BotW 2, some casual game (Style Savvy??)

I thought it was pretty great. Great surprises like a new Mario Strikers 😍!

But then we got like Live A Live which I’ve never heard of before but am very interested in that.

Earthbound, never played that.

The 48 track DLC for Mario Kart 8.

I thought it was great. This was just for the first half of 2022, and it’s pretty chockfull between the AAA and Indie games coming to Switch alone.

My Hail Mary hope is to see a Kid Icarus entry, but no got Advance Wars 1+2 reboot from Wayforward and I’m very hyped for that.

As an aside, what other big first party SNES/NES games could Nintendo add to their service now?
I know of Super Mario RPG Legend of the Seven Stars, but I dunno if that’s wholly owned by Nintendo or if it’s tied up with Square Enix.

@nitrolink Don't forget Pokemon Legends Arceus to Pokemon USUM. Might not be a Switch title, but it is another sequel from the same year. Also, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is basically getting a whole game's worth of DLC... And questionably, 1-2 Switch to Switch Sports. Really it's just Pokken, Arms, and Odyssey left.

Oh and on the 3DS side we did have Samus Returns too (...and Hey Pikmin I guess), but given Dread came out a few months early that doesn't quite match. Though if the rumors of Prime remaster are true... Well, it's hard to say on how much that counts, especially since Dread is still getting new content this year.

Was hoping for a new Mario vs. Donkey Kong or Punch Out game, but I'm just glad Advance Wars Reboot Camp has a concrete release date now.

Retro gaming is too damn expensive.

Joriss

I was denied a Batman Arkham collection at the Direct and now I'm livid, despite the fact I have the original two games on my dusty old Xbox 360. Aaaaargh, livid!

This direct was literally just for the Wii era wasn't it.

  • Mario Strikers
  • Xenoblade Chronicles
  • Wii Sports Sequel
  • Coconut bloody Mall

As someone who grew up on said era, I'm a very happy chappy right now.

@Joriss games are still announced outside of the direct so don’t give up hope yet.

@link3710 Mario Sports Superstars (which contained football) came to 3DS in 2017. Honestly the comparison is even closer when instead of comparing 2017 to 2022 you compare Switch year 1 to Switch year 6:

  • BotW -> BotW 2
  • MK8 Deluxe -> MK8 Deluxe DLC
  • Splatoon 2 -> Splatoon 3
  • Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle -> Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope
  • Fire Emblem Warriors -> Fire Emblem Warriors Three Hopes
  • Xenoblade 2 -> Xenoblade 3
  • Bayonetta 1+2 -> Bayonetta 3
  • Multiple Kirby games -> Kirby and the Forgotten Land
  • Mario Sports Superstars -> Mario Strikers Battle League Football

Which leaves on the Switch side:

  • 1-2-Switch
  • Snipperclips
  • ARMS
  • Pokken
  • Mario Odyssey

And on the 3DS side:

  • Bye-Bye BoxBoy
  • Fire Emblem Echoes
  • Ever Oasis
  • Hey Pikmin
  • Miitopia
  • Metroid Samus Returns
  • Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga
  • Mario Party Top 100
  • Pokemon Ultra Sun/Moon
  • Style Savvy Styling Star
  • Detective Pikachu

I could see some of these have comparisons like a Pokken 2 announced, the Detective Pikachu announcement from 2019 reappear and a mainline Pokemon announcement (e.g. Legends Arceus DLC) in Pokemon Presents, Mario Party Superstars DLC, another Fire Emblem remake, etc.

@Ryu_Niiyama I know but they set it up so perfectly with collection announcements and returns of classics. Now I know how Milhouse felt about the fireworks factory.

@Grumblevolcano all I see is a chance for Ever Oasis 2. Snap out of it, Ryu!

If this happens 2022 will be a stronger year than 2020 and 2021 combined. And by quite a significant margin, at that.

I think what made this Direct so good is not just the new announcements, but the fact that we already had a fairly strong lineup for 2022. Adding FE Warriors, Xenoblade 3, Mario Strikers and Nintendo Switch Sports to the existing lineup of (Pokemon Legends Arceus), Splatoon 3, Mario and Rabbids, Kirby, Bayonetta and BotW sequel is fantastic. Plus we still have E3 to go!

At least 2'8".

I'm not a fan of Xenoblade Chronicles or Fire Emblem, but I thought that was a fantastic direct!! Mario Strikers looks epic, I've been hoping for a port of No Mans Sky for years!!

There were a few of the smaller announcements which looked good to me too, I might finally try Earthbound on NSO and I'll have a look at Zombie Army 4 and Front Mission too.

This almost makes me want to lower most of my expectations for a possible E3 direct. I feel like we'll know almost everything in it before it drops for better or worse. But at the same time, knowing about release dates and more info on Bayo 3, BOTW Sequel, Mario and Rabbids, and a few others will be pretty dang exciting.

This Direct was probably the best in a long time for me. I'm so stoked for:

  • Mario Strikers
  • Kirby
  • Klonoa (fond memories - woof)
  • Triangle Strategy
  • MK8 courses
  • Advance Wars
  • Splatoon 3
    FE Warriors
  • Xenoblade

It's kind of gross, really. And I'm sure I'll end up getting the Switch Sports title for my wife and I to play. Chrono Cross was a total surprise... I never did beat that game. Not entirely sure I'll go back to it, but we'll see.
