Two videos I've seen recently outline the difference in details between BOTW and Horizon. And it was pretty interesting to the see lack of little details found in Horizon. It's fair to say BOTW has a somewhat advanced system, which was displayed by Alex when he layed down metal swords to continue a current. But not seeing your footprints in snow while playing Horizon was 100% unexpected.
Surprise! A game that was heavily promoted heaving a physics engine has a better physics engine than a game that isn't about that...
The videos are skewed towards Zelda, not all the comparisons are fair. They never show Aloy walking in tall grass, because tall grass does move, just like it does in Zelda (and it moves a lot more realistically to be fair).

Fair point, but if that's the stance you take. How can you justify not having visible foot prints in the snow?
Literally who cares? The game's are going for completely different things, there's zero point in comparing that stuff. Or is anyone bothered that Zelda doesn't have robot dinosaurs?

Interesting video comparison. Curious if that's taken on PS4 or PS4 Pro (why do I feel like gagging every time I have to ask something like that 3 years into a console?), I get the impression Horizon is more about the big set-piece events rather than the open world, though my copy will remain firmly shrink-wrapped while Calamity Ganon yet lives...
When one of the games has a main character with elf ears who fights monsters like goblins, and the other has a main character who lives in a post-apocalyptic world with giant robot dinosaurs, I think realism kind of goes out the window.
