He left Konami, yes. There was no word of retirement, though. I think he departed to "seek new experiences" (NL had an article about it somewhere around May 2014).
I'm simply surprised at how quickly he seems to have prepared this - unless he worked on the project while he was still at Konami, and decided to leave them in favor of it.
If it is a classic 2D Castlevania game I would probably back it. (X68000 or Rondo of Blood type).
Metroidvania I will probably get it but I am not that bothered so I won't back it.
Same here. We've had enough "metroidvania" kickstarter games, so a classic Castlevania-like game would be a more than welcome return of a great game style.
Sadly, the chances are kinda slim, since IGA was mostly involved in Castlevania games from Symphony of the Night onward...

I honestly won't mind if IGA's new game is just a SotN-style Castlevania (or a Classicvania, for that matter) with the serial numbers filed off. I was always hungry for more even when he was pumping out those games on a semi-annual basis.

Too bad it isn't coming to Wii U or 3DS. I won't back it, but I'll still be watching its progress with some interest. I'll likely have a PS4 by the time it comes out, so maybe I can give it a try then.

According to Iga it's because of the Wii U and 3DS hardware (probably the game pad and 3D effects) and right now he wants to get it out to as many platforms as time will let him and since PS4 Xbox One and PC are similar it will be easier to design them at the same time. However he has not ruled out a Wii U or 3DS version and has hinted at them coming later.

Well, I won't be getting this game since I don't plan on getting a PS4, Xbone, or PC anytime in my future. The pixel art isn't all that great anyways...def needs work before it's a finished product. Although, that makes sense since it's still in it's early stages...I presume.
A 2D game with no 3DS, Vita or Wii U? That's a kinda sucky business decision. I bet something like this would sell better on the 3DS and Vita than it will on the Xbox.
This is fantastic, everything about this Kickstarter is fantastic. I love this part about the title:
WHY BLOODSTAINED, AND NOT, SAY, "CASTLELAND" OR "FORTRESSVANIA"?
We thought it was a perfect fit to describe the stained glass curse that spreads, like a virus, across the host's body. That explains "Stained", at least. As for the rest of the title, IGA has always been a big fan of blood.
What a great title. I love the connection to the actual conflict of the main character. Pretty creative story too, as far as these " being overcome" type stories go! I love the idea.
When asked about Dracula:
"and a new selection of demons and classic b-movie monsters is definitely still in the tarot cards." Are you telling me we can have potentially stupid sh** like From Hell It Came, The Blob, and The Fly as enemies in the game?!AWESOME!! While he probably means Wolfman and Frankenstein, I would love for them to explore more B-movie monsters! Teenagers from Outer Space, anyone?
WHAT IS A BACKER?
A wonderful pile of sweetness!
This KS is filled of so much personality lime this, it's wonderful! I want to back this, but the crap fest that Mighty No. 9 is looking like right now has me hesitant to put down the $60 I want to for the physical copy since there's only concept art shown right now like MN9 did when it launched.
Although in this case I think the concept art is "OK" and would actually be happy if it changed.
I want to back this game, but I don't have a spare $60 to spend on something I won't see for 2 years at least. I'm glad others aren't in the same boat, though. I look forward to playing it when it comes out...and I'm hoping it's no Mighty No. 9. Seriously, Dash to Kill? High Score counters? Why?! You had one job, Inafune. (Oh well, at least we got Gunvolt)
