Topic: Is it worth it to upgrade to the Nintendo Switch?

I still very much enjoy my 3ds & Wii U & am wondering if it's worth upgrading to the Nintendo switch or Nintendo switch lite... Can the Nintendo switch that connects to the TV.. Can the the controller itself fit in a purse for on the go? Or can it solely be played in the house? My dad loves Luigi's mansion. I know Luigi's mansion is on the Nintendo switch unless there are other really good games that someone can recommend... I need a good reason to upgrade to the TV version. Does the Nintendo switch lite have any pro's or cons? Or should I still wait a little while longer before upgrading to either system? I don't want to buy either one to soon & then Nintendo announce a newer version of the Nintendo switch or Nintendo switch lite. They've pulled this stunt in the past with other game systems / handhelds...

Does the Nintendo switch have: Harvest Moon? Animal Crossing? Anything Disney? Barbie games? Hello Kitty games?

Any helpful advice would be appreciated! Thank You!

@Barbiegurl777 Tbh you've already waited too long. Switch is 3 years old already. If you're really sensitive to the idea of a better alternative being released then perhaps you should wait now. Could be waiting 1 year, could be waiting 3 or 4. Nobody knows.

But yes, Switch is very worth it in most people's opinions. Read a few articles celebrating the 3 year birthday. Check Metacritic's list of all-time highest rated Switch games. This site has a bunch of lists too.

But don't be lazy about it and put the decision on others - do a bit of research. There's tonnes of variety on the Switch.

If you decide to get one now, get the v1.1 model of the full Switch (i.e. not the Lite) - it gives you the split joy con option, the docked option, the handheld option. Switch Lite is becoming affordable enough to leave as a possible addition a little down the line if you want something a bit smaller.

As for portability, take the joy cons off and then the tablet easily fits inside a bag with the joy cons loose with it, but look after it - get a screen protector and a case.

You guys had me at blood and semen.

What better way to celebrate than firing something out of the pipe?

Nothing is true. Everything is permitted.

Holy smokes, that's a lot of questions. I will try to answer them the best I can.

Is the upgrade to the Nintendo Switch/Nintendo Switch Lite worth it if you're still enjoying the WiiU/3DS?
-In my opinion, yes. I feel like the Nintendo Switch is the best of both gaming worlds as it is a hybrid console. Want to go out? Take your Switch. Want to stay home and game on the TV? Hook it up. The game library is legendary with Legend of Zelda, Mario titles, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and more! I don't feel like you could go wrong with buying one.

Should you wait before upgrading, maybe in case a new Switch model comes out, or the predecessor?
-That decision is solely up to you. The Nintendo Switch has a long life ahead (or that's what we're lead to believe anyways) and should be around for the next several years. There is a possibility of a Switch 'PRO' coming, so if better processors and graphics is more you're speed, maybe you should wait. Again, it all really depends on you're opinion of whether it's worth it or not to make the move to buy the Nintendo Switch.

Can the Nintendo Switch fit in a purse/bag for on-the-go purposes? [Talking about the regular Nintendo Switch, the one that hooks up to the TV. Not the Nintendo Switch Lite]
-Yes, as long as your purse/bag is big enough. Obviously, you can't fit a Switch inside a purse the size of a fanny pack, but if it's like a normal sized purse it should fit well. I find the Switch super easy to pack inside of a backpack as well.

Does the Nintendo Switch have Harvest Moon, Animal Crossing, Disney stuff, Barbie, Hello Kitty, etc?
-Yes, most of these kinds of games do exist. I'll leave links to the game pages for each game, these are all games that exist for the Nintendo Switch gaming library. Of course, there are more, but you asked specifically, so I answered specifically. (I tried to find Barbie games, but had no luck, sorry!)

@Barbiegurl777 The Nintendo Switch can be used has as a handheld, or hooked up to the TV. You just set the Switch down in the dock, and it switches to TV mode to display through an HDMI cable. It's really easy & quick.

The Switch Lite is handheld only. It can never hook up to a TV.

Obviously, anyone here will say the Switch is great.

Animal Crossing for the Switch releases March 20, 2020 (so, very soon)
https://www.nintendo.com/games/detail/animal-crossing-new-hor...

There are currently no Barbie games.

There are two disney games:
(party game) https://www.nintendo.com/games/detail/disney-tsum-tsum-festiv...
(an SNES port) https://www.nintendo.com/games/detail/disney-classic-games-al...

Hello Kitty only has one game, a kart racer(I think it's a port, so I don't know if it's new to you or not)
https://www.nintendo.com/games/detail/hello-kitty-kruisers-sw...

There are two Harvest Moon games. Light of Hope appears to be the better one (It got mixed reviews. Check reviews before buying.)

A new switch version may or may not come. Currently, the mostly red box Switch console is the updated version (aka V2=version 2) with 40% more battery life than the original that launched in 2017. (the newer chip in the V2 uses much less power, so it gets more play time from the same battery). Consensus here has been: Buy the V2 Switch. It's not worth it to wait for a rumored switch console update that may or may not come later this year, or next year, or never.

Highly recommended games
Zelda Breath of the Wild
Mario Odyssey
Mario+Rabbids
Luigi's Mansion 3
Splatoon 2
Mario Maker 2
(I'm sure there are others, but these are off the top of my head)

@Barbiegurl777 I only bought a switch 2 months ago, its games are like most consoles there good, but the console is not made great it can sort of twist and turn in your hand like it's going to break. I'm not sure what switch lite is like I haven't used one yet. Before I bought the switch I was just going to get a pre-owned wii U, as there is still a lot of e shop games on it i'd like to get. If there is any wii U e shop games you haven't played and want to play them you should play them instead of buying a switch.πŸ˜„

@Barbiegurl777 I will say the new animal crossing sounds great and I'm really hopeing that metroid 4 is out soon .

Doraemon Story of Seasons is probably the best Harvest Moon game on Switch not named Stardew Valley.

@Barbiegurl777, I just want to say I'm glad you're still around. I remember you posted quite often during the 3DS' heyday. Hope you've been enjoying your game time.

Anyhow, from what I remember of your preferences, the Switch has quite a few games you'd like, most of which have already been mentioned by others here.

Currently Playing:
Switch - Blade Strangers
PS4 - Kingdom Hearts III, Tetris Effect (VR)

@Barbiegurl777 If you get a Switch, get a glass screen protector day 1. To avoid cracked screens from dropping the switch, Nintendo went with a plastic screen. It looks good, but it's not the tough smartphone glass we're all used to. Tempered glass is the best type of screen protector. A lot of people in the US got the 2 pack tempered glassed protector in the pasted link -myself included.

This is a odd question to be asking now of a 3 year old system? Just look online and going to NIN site you can find all this info on the eShop. The only difference would be you want a Lite or Standard Switch detachable Joy-Con. Also the games are pretty well established with YT reviews and just going there would more or less info you on that. But don't take my word for it just look at the honest reviews on YT and you can find this out as well.

@Barbiegurl777 - I’d just like to second the notion that it’s good to see you’re still active. Switch is great, and there’s a lot of variety. Whatever you decide, β€œhappy gaming”.

@SwitchForce - Did you just advise someone on a forum looking for advice and user feedback to look online for advice and user feedback? That’s a funny one even for you.

@Barbiegurl777 it’s a fantastic time to buy the switch as most of the best first party games are already there.

We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.

She just want to consider Switch for Girly games she likes.
I told to her that she should buy Switch for Animal Crossing New Horizons, Story of Seasons, Hello Kitty, Disney, Princess games, etc. (the games she likes)

If they wanted game recommendation the way it's asked is really odd when some of those games are out there already and if one just YT those games and Switch vs Lite they could see what the reviews says they are. Alot of those games are already out there just YT them to get a better sense of them.

MrAfrika

I would wait until the holidays and see what Nintendo does. Remember Nintendo completely abandoned the Wii U owners mid-cycle , who's to say they won't do it again when no 3rd party games able to be ported over because of how weak the hardware is in the Switch?

MrAfrika

Barbiegurl777

@RR529 Yeah lol. I've been playing catch up on a few older 3ds games before I make the jump. That & tracking down some happy meal toy's from the 90's. I was also tracking down some older doll's from the 80's / 90's: Baby Talk, Starbrite Sparkles etc. I think I finally got that out of my system lol back to gaming more seriously again lol. I have such unique hubby's! πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

@Switchforce,

I know. I saw the Nintendo switch & Nintendo switch lite at Walmart yesterday. Then my mind started racing with a million questions lol.

@Anti-Matter,

Your half right! πŸ˜‰πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ I'd mostly be playing it as I'm the only one who really enjoy's gaming at my house. Where as my I asked about Luigi's mansion. My dad loves Luigi's mansion & donkey Kong. I was trying to look at the TV version because of both me & my dad lol. No barbie games though? Darn that's depressing lol. I remember barbie on almost every system: gameboy, gameboy color, GBA, DS, 3DS. I can't remember if barbie was on n64 or super Nintendo though. It's been to long now! πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

@As for everyone else,

I already knew about getting the screen protector, & game case. Yes I've been watching yt video's for reviews, calling gamestop asking info, & doing research online. I purposely waited to make sure the Nintendo switch was actually worth it. Plus I didn't like the way Nintendo handled things on the 3ds & Wii u the way they treated long time gamers who have been around for 30+ years. I also wasn't a fan on being monitored like an infant with miiverse. The fact that Nintendo region locked the 3ds & wii u were also not selling points with me. I had to import an Australian Australian 2ds just to enjoy teddy together 3ds, along with several other 3ds games.

Did Nintendo ever go back to region free game system's like before? Or are they still on this kick with region locking?

@Bimmy-Lee,

Yeah I purposely didn't say "happy gaming" to see if anyone would notice LOL. Yo deep! πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ€£

I might wait a few month's. Half to save up the cash for the game system & games! πŸ˜†πŸ‘

Happy Gaming! (^~^)

@Barbiegurl777 The Switch has a huge library, and if you like Animal Crossing, now is the perfect time to get one since the new entry is coming out this month and looks to be the best in the series to date! If you like Harvest Moon there are games in that series as well as Rune Factory and Stardew Valley as well. The Switch also has some of the best entries in most of Nintendo's big name franchises like Mario, Zelda and Pokemon, all of which I recommend. It also has a great mix of 3rd party games, everything from JRPGs to strategy games to city builders. About the only genres where the Switch is lacking are FPS games and realistic racing games. And even then you have options, just not as many.

The Switch is only 3 years old, Nintendo will be supporting it for several more years and the library of games has more than enough to keep anyone busy for a long time!

Unless you think you'd NEVER want to play on the TV, I discourage you from even considering the Switch Lite as the console cannot play on TV at all. But it is an option for that if you really don't care about playing on TV.
