Topic: How will Nintendo make it up to Wii U owners?

For Nintendo to give us free stuff there needs to be a level they fail to reach.

Why not make it law that a console owner has to produce a certain amount of games to ensure a customer gets the best value.

I say this because if you were watching the WIIU presentation at E3 when it was new, we were promised all sorts, 3rd party's, even a TV service.
Obviously I got none of that so my purchase which was heavily influenced by that demo real (I would have bought it anyway) makes me feel like I got done over a bit.

There should be something to protect the customer from that.
And in my opinion Nintendo got away with that lightly

@skywake: I saw the Third party output chart as well but didn't include it because it's not directly Nintendo's fault that the third party support has dropped down so drastically. Sure, Nintendo failed to create a home console that would appeal to third party developers and publishers but then again the games that companies like Ubisoft, Activision, and EA put out didn't really appeal to the masses and were mostly ports that came months too late for the system - which is something that could happen with the NX considering they just pushed back the release of the console with a few months.

Third party support was as its highest point during Wii's cycle which is not all that surprising considering the amount of bad shovelware the console received. In a way I believe that also created a problem on its own since at least I lost my interest in even checking out most of the third party games for the console and focused on first party games only. In other words third party publishers were there creating the problem in the first place.

@DjLewe78: I agree in that if a company promises something or markets their console with a certain title or function, they should try to keep their promise.

I remember the time when you could install a second OS on your PS3. It was a feature that was advertised when the console launched and I know some people bought the console with it being one of the biggest selling points for them (and they went on and installed Linux on their PS3). It took maybe a year or two before Sony removed the feature with a patch which left you with two choices: either update and lose the option to have a second OS on the console or continue as normal, yet without any network features and possible bug fixes. That was a pretty big blow for some.

@Nego:
IF console manufacturers show a game that potentially influences a customer purchases their console, then NINTENDO should pay for the game to be finished or give us an equally good game in return.

This would force console manufacturers and 3rd party's to work closer together to ensure this doesn't happen. There's no laws or punishments for this so it will just keep happening otherwise.

@DjLewe78: I don't disagree with you. It's not always that simple though with developers forcing to shut down and publishers sitting on rights for the game/franchise without any meaning to let go of it or using it. It can be a long legal battle to get things moving again.

But then again that applies mostly to third parties and not directly to Nintendo.

What Nintendo games are you talking about by the way?

@Nego:
I honestly can't remember so I'll happily watch it again later but there were definitely titles that weren't released.
But it was the TVII thing that mostly pissed me off.
I showed my wife when I was trying to explain why at the age of 35 I need the newest Nintendo console, and she loved the TV part. So we bought it after seeing that (on release) she waited and waited but nothing. Now she hates Nintendo as rightly so they juped a lot of people, now I'm gonna struggle to convince her that the NX will be any different !!!

The Zelda thing is kind of hilarious in a totally terrible way. And I KIND OF (not fully) agree with the OP, but my guess is that I'm coming from a VERY DIFFERENT angle than most of you guys. I didn't buy ANYTHING Nintendo for about the last 10 years of my life. The Zelda dual release IS a big slap in the face.

I don't know how they're going to make the Wii U version not feel inferior if the NX is any real kind of step forward in power. I don't know what they're going to try and feed Wii U owners for the next 11 months to keep them on the dang system. I don't know if they'll even hit their estimate of 800,000 sold consoles this year given that news of the Wii U being a "lame duck" console is going to spread, even to non-forum-goers.

And those gamers who were on the fence about getting a Wii U because MAYBE Zelda???? Not anymore, obviously. No matter how you slice it and the positive spin you try to put on it (and boy some people will try to lay it on thick), it's gonna be a bleak 11 months for Wii U owners.

@rallydefault: I'd say 9, not 11. Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE seems like a good quality game.

It's end times for the Wii U but I don't think the same is true for Nintendo. If they manage it well NX could do very well. At this point all we know is that is has a new Zelda game but... that's not bad!

@Grumblevolcano: It looks like a quality game indeed, but it's not something for everyone. The market for that game is rather niche. I won't be getting that game. I'll probably get Paper Mario, but it's going to be a long wait nontheless. Here's hoping that they finished Pikmin 4 for Wii U in the meantime and that it's going to be the surprise of this year's holiday, otherwise it's not looking pretty on Nintendo's front this year.

I imagine Ninty will make it up to people by having their E3 direct featuring all the names of the Wii U owners like the Oscars' obituary reel.

@jump: 75% of their booth at E3 will feature big walls with our names. That explains why Zelda is the only playable game. They don't have any space left to do more.

@DjLewe78: Ah it's fine. It's just been too many years for me to remember what all games and features they promised. I agree that the non-inclusion of TVii is annoying. I never really understood what it was - and considering I was never going to have my Wii U connected to a TV in the first place (I use a monitor for my Wii U) I didn't really care about it. But yeah, that sounds like a real problem.

And another 10% will be taken up by people leaving flowers, candles and photos of their Wii Us.

So I take it you are not happy? I am very happy. The wiiU has been great. I’ve had so much great games to play during the entire life of it, at any time.

I've only had my Wii U for 2.5 years, but have a backlog the size of Japan, so I don't feel at all let down about it. But I want Wii U support to continue because it's a great console (I have two of them), so unless the gamepad is fully functioning with NX, or NX replaces the gamepad with something even better...

Basically I'd like to carry on using my gamepads for years to come. And I echo the points of others that any digital purchases would ideally carry over.

If NX has full backwards compatibility with Wii U, wii remotes etc. then I'll be much more tempted to dive in early. If it lacks such BC then it will take something special to get me to move on from my already gargantuan Wii U/N3DS/Wii/PS3/Steam backlog. I've invested heavily in the last couple of years in terms of picking up a lot of the best games from the past 10 years. So I'm probably set for a lifetime of gaming just working through what I already have.

You guys had me at blood and semen.

What better way to celebrate than firing something out of the pipe?

Hopefully they realise they can get good money by hosting a paid lecture on how to carve a coffin for a Wii U.
