My idea would be some sort of synth, like the Korg DS, but with bespoke Joy Con for the control surface (along with touchscreen)

I really want a Capcom Vs. Collection on PS5/Series X/Switch/Steam

The 30th Anniversary Collection for Street Fighter was very well done and it's been way too long since Marvel vs. Capcom Origins and MvC2 HD were last seen. Instead of just doing the MvC titles I'd love to see them go all out by covering all of their crossover fighters like Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter, X-Men Children of the Atom, the Capcom vs. SNK games, the MvC games (excluding Infinite and vanilla Marvel 3) and Tatsunoko vs. Capcom. This way the collection could probably cover roughly as much content as the SF30 collection and offer some well deserved re-releases for games that haven't been nearly as accessible for close to two decades.

I like the way you think, but between licensing and well Capcom (hoping Ono leaving will change that) the chances are slim. I would love to play tatsunoko on the Switch.

Still surprised Crossy Road or some 3d frogger-like game hasn't come to the Switch.

Square needs to remaster the PSP/DS remakes of Final Fantasy I-IV that they did around the 2000s all the way into 2010, and I'm not just talking about on Switch specifically because they should absolutely be on Xbox and PlayStation as well

The closest thing to a remaster those games have gotten was when first print editions of FF Explorers on 3DS in Japan came with a port of the PSP remake of FF1 with 3D support, but in light of VII Remake doing extremely well I'd love to see these entries get more exposure even if they did do well on their respective platforms

And while they're at it, they still missed FFV and FFVI, and I'd rather they remake those first before the other two PlayStation entries. The current best versions of those games are still the GBA ports, and those are extremely expensive to come by these days.

@Ryu_Niiyama Ono leaving is probably the best thing to happen to Capcom fighters as a whole imo

While he was one of the figureheads responsible for rejuvenating interest in traditional 2D fighters as a whole when series like MK were going full 3D in light of Tekken and SoulCalibur, his influences on SFV and SFxTekken were also highly prevalent and played a pretty sizable role on why those games initially weren't doing so hot

@Slowdive I have a feeling a FFV Remake or FFVI Remake will probably go the route of Trials of Mana as well but if I was in charge I'd personally try to make those in the HD-2D art style of Octopath Traveler with the Bravely team working on those games since Bravely Default is extremely reminiscent of FFV specifically

@RPGamer I really don't think Atlus is ignoring Nintendo owners at all considering next year two SMT games are coming to Switch with one of them being Switch exclusive

Persona's just tied to PlayStation because that's where it's always been and sales are definitely a non issue considering P5 is their single best selling game in their entire history as a company, so they don't really feel that being on PlayStation for one series is especially limiting, considering 90% of their other games are either on Nintendo or exclusive to those platforms

Atlus stands to make more money by porting it to other platforms. Given P4G is now on steam you can’t really say Sony has a monopoly on the persona brand. Heck we have Joker in smash but not a single persona game on the system! Flynn from SMT4 or Jack Frost their company mascot would have been more appropriate choices of Persona was only a Sony game.

(it just makes sense to port P5 to switch so players can experience it before playing Scramble which is likely due out in the west before long with it being so directly tied to P5. Unlike the Q games which were non canon.

@GameOtaku Persona was honestly the no brainer to represent Atlus from the start

It's the single most recognizable Megami Tensei series by far as well as the most critically and commercially successful to the point where it outsold Shin Megami Tensei in its entirety as well as its entire parent franchise

Smash x Shin Megami Tensei would be better for tying it closer to Nintendo, but like Cloud being in Smash Wii U, Persona is just more recognizable, and Persona 5 in particular became a phenomenon by itself similar to what FFVII did for its series despite being on PlayStation instead of Nintendo

Sony absolutely doesn't have a monopoly on Persona, and neither does Nintendo on other MegaTen games, but Atlus just has a pretty eschewed mindset when it comes to developing for multiple platforms, and the thing is so far it's working out completely fine for them. In fact the two times it didn't work as well for them were SMT Nine on Xbox and P4G on Vita, but that wasn't really because of the games themselves, it was because their platforms just didn't move that many units, but the same can't be said for Persona 3 and 4 on PS2 or Persona 5 on PS3/PS4 because those consoles were ultimately extremely successful.

Besides, I doubt Nintendo even chooses these fighters with the intent of only appealing to the Nintendo playing crowd. Case in point Terry was in the same Fighters Pass, and his most recent appearance in his home series was KOF XIV, a PS4/PC exclusive game, which had content represented in Smash as well. Same with Ryu and Street Fighter V

The Switch is also successful so it would make sound business sense to port popular games to a popular platform. P4G sells extremely well on steam so just think what it could do on Switch. A game developer should try to expose their product to as many platforms as possible (if no exclusivity deals are in place, but then again that’s what loopholes and wording can undo that).

We finally got FF7 from Sony so it’s not completely out of the question for Persona to come to Nintendo. Sony is also getting the SMT 3 remake so it would worry me at all if smt5 was on PS5 or 4. The more people playing equals more money for Atlus or any company for that matter.

With smash fighters the general rule I’ve seen so far is that a game of their series must have shown up on a Nintendo platform. Terry was in fatal fury on SNES, Cloud repped FF since it started on the nes. Joker is the odd man out since he doesn’t have a mainline game (Persona as a brand has not appeared in Nintendo and it’s a spin-off off smt) every other character in the game have ties to Nintendo in one form or other.

@GameOtaku I have a feeling PS4 is only getting SMT3 because the original game was on PS2. So far any time Atlus does a re-release or remake of older SMT titles that aren't Persona they're almost 100% only to be found on Nintendo platforms, while Nocturne was the one outlier since the original game was the first to not debut on a Nintendo system from the start

If anyone ultimately has a say on whether Persona gets ported it's probably Atlus Japan and the higher ups at SEGA, but based on P5R's sales I'm no longer holding my breath for anything mainline Persona related on a non-Sony console. My best bet is that they'll bring future Persona ports and maybe even new main entries to Steam alongside PlayStation since P4G did incredibly well from the outset, but I have a feeling Persona is staying as a PlayStation console exclusive at the very least. If Atlus were actually that open to developing for multiple consoles they would've already put Persona 3 and 4 on Xbox 360 after Arena came out, or P5 on Switch to preface Joker's Smash inclusion

I see Joker in smash as advertising for Royal and Scramble and a ad character you have to purchase to boot?!

GameOtaku

TheFrenchiestFry

@GameOtaku Well yeah, every character in Smash is advertising their own series, but it's not like Snake is in Smash to tell you "please buy Metal Gear Solid The Twin Snakes for Nintendo GameCube"

Joker's here to rep Atlus as the protagonist of their single most successful game in history as well as the entire Persona IP as a whole. It's not really telling the people who play on Switch only to buy a PS4, because odds are, they're not strictly catering to the Nintendo audience, because case in point I myself am not strictly a Nintendo system owner and do own a PS4. There's a reason why Joker was announced at a non-Nintendo event like The Game Awards as opposed to a Nintendo Direct, because they probably knew a pick like him would not strictly cater to the Switch-only audience because Persona doesn't have that much history with Nintendo.

But with Snake you can see his Nintendo roots from Metal Gear, Snakes Revenge, Ghost Babel, Twin Snakes and Snake Eater. Banjo as well with Kazooie and Tooie. With Joker though there is no representation at all on a Nintendo platform. He doesn’t rep SMT he reps Persona.

GameOtaku

TheFrenchiestFry

@GameOtaku I barely count the NES Metal Gear games as official installments of the series because they were made without Kojima even knowing of their existence, and he retconned both of them anyway when deciding to make MG2 Solid Snake the official sequel to the first MSX title. Joker has as close of ties to Nintendo as Cloud did when he was added, seeing as how before FFVII actually came to Switch the only association to Nintendo Cloud had was through spinoff games like Theatrhythm and Kingdom Hearts. Snake himself barely ever appeared on Nintendo systems past the GameCube. Twin Snakes was produced with direct involvement from Nintendo as opposed to the other MGS titles so it made sense for that one to be exclusive to their platform, but in terms of proper Metal Gear entries, pretty much 90% of them are tied to Sony. Microsoft never even got MGS1, Portable Ops or MGS4, let alone the non-canon entries like Ghost Babel and Acid

Banjo originated on Nintendo because that was when Rare was a third party developer and well before Microsoft bought them out. MS just respected the fact that they began on those systems.

The criteria for Smash is probably that a character has to BE on a Nintendo system, but not necessarily meaning their series has to have a history with Nintendo or that their game of origin has to have been released on a Nintendo system. Joker was in Q2, and he's a character from a very popular game, so he fits the bill.

Any game that makes extensive use of the touch screen falls into this category.

It still counts as it was Konami (through Ultra). At the end of the day Joker has nothing to do with Nintendo unlike a smt character would. I see Atlus as squandering the potential of their games by downright refusing to bend to fans demands for a port. Then to top things off they port Catherine a game that uses the same engine as P5 to “gauge” interest in Persona?! In what twisted logic does that make sense?!

Edited on by GameOtaku

GameOtaku

TheFrenchiestFry

@GameOtaku I mean you can also make that case for Cloud and Richter

I'm pretty sure Richter Belmont has only ever appeared in like two titles on Nintendo systems not counting that re-release of Rondo of Blood completely untranslated on Wii. Even most of his appearances like SotN and Dracula X Chronicles were Sony exclusive in addition to that Requiem collection that came out recently. Alucard's Assist Trophy likewise, has him wielding the Crissaegrim and performing moves lifted directly from SotN which was never released on a Nintendo system

The criteria that a character has to actually have something to do with Nintendo has already been fulfilled by Joker through Q2. Persona 5 just being on Switch won't happen just to validate his inclusion in Smash, if it even happens at all.

Catherine Full Body probably didn't happen to gauge interest in Persona but just as a general survey to see how Switch owners respond to their titles on the platform as a whole. It was made by largely the same team as the Persona games but it's completely different gameplay wise. It's not exactly an indicator of anything considering their next major release on Switch is SMT3 HD and not Persona
