Is this the first 1st party game to be delayed on Switch? We were told for a while that it would be a 2018 release. Now we have to wait potentially another year from now for it. I'll buy it, and I'm sure it will be great. I just got my hopes up that it wouldn't be delayed after the dialogue was in English.

Did they ever say it was a 2018 release tho, i think that was more speculation.
Appearance-wise, it fits what I would expect from a console FE. The one thing I'm not a fan of is the incredibly choppy animated cutscenes.
We still have a lot to see when it comes to gameplay, but I think the addition of squad units is probably welcome. It'll transform the idea of a 'small group of people' into more of a 'commanding an army' feel.

Well they listened to what I was saying and added more exploration so I'm happy. Never seen a reason why Fire Emblem couldn't be more of a regular JRPG but just with strategy battles.
@Ralizah I really doubt this. Since it was mostly limited to animated cutscenes, it was likely intentionally rendered that way as an 'aesthetic choice'. Makes my eyes hurt though.

I'm absolutely in love with there being grunts on the field, battles look so much more alive and dynamic now! And from those scenes of Byleth--(is that his name?)--running around the castle, I wonder if there's going to be an explorable hub, which is one of the things I've been hoping for in future FE titles.
@Judi I didn't get that sense. It was choppy, not slo-mo. Besides, performance issues in the game can easily affect cutscene playback (like in Xenoblade Chronicles 2, where a bug causes the ending cutscene to slow to a crawl). I think it'll look smooth on release.
I love how the battle animations look more like actual war instead of an army of 5 people. Plus it looks like you have both unit and squad fights

Plus, this appears to have a self-contained story like the classic Fire Emblems, as opposed to Awakening and Fates, in which the "avatar" is considered to be the key protagonist.
"Gee, that's really persuasive. Do you have any actual points to make other than to essentially say 'me Tarzan, physical bad, digital good'?"
@Silly_G I never minded the my unit stories but a focus on a story without my unit only means more character development. Works for me.

@Ryu_Niiyama : I'm not complaining about the My Unit stories. In fact, I prefer it as I like to feel more like an active participant in any story-oriented game that I play. It was just an observation. It could go either way though as the trailer did not confirm one way or the other, and I must admit that I am a sucker for the relationship building aspect of games like these.
Definitely intrigued by this. The grunts on the field have especially piqued my interest. I still need to play a couple of the older games still nestled in my backlog, though.
Currently playing: Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr's Journey, Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana (Switch)
I'm not keen that you're using squads now rather than units, but I will reserve judgement.
I strongly suspect the squads will be mostly for visual purposes rather than any meaningful gameplay purpose.
Nintendo aren't exactly one to change the core of an established formula.
